My parents never pressured me (which I have realized now). But of course there was the pressure from the talks and the literature. One day an Elder approached me in the hall "What about baptism?"
I made up my mind (not really) in that narrow environment, got tru the questions and finally got baptized at age 16.
When I was changing cloths together with another newly baptized JW my age from a nearby congregation we had a dialogue:
He: "We are lucky, aren't we?"
I: "Why?"
He: "Because we may belong to Jehovah's people!"
I:"Yep."
This was a strange dialogue to me, because I never had that affected piety.
This other guy later got befriended with a sister from my congregation. But when his Bethel application was accepted he dumped her.

Did you use the JW calendars?
by GermanXJW ineven in my hardcore active jw time i had no use for the jw calendar.
i ordered it each year and put it into a drawer.
most months were really ugly illustrated and it was completly useless without the holidays.

At least they do not make the JW use the calendar invented by Clayton Woodworth that was rejected by Rutherford. Woodworth was editor of the Golden Age saw the need for the Bible Students to have their own calendar with their own month's names. IIRC one of the month was even called "Jehovah".

UnDisfellowshipped, you forgot about John 9:8,9:
8 Therefore the neighbors and those who formerly used to see he was a beggar began to say: "This is the man that used to sit and beg, is it not?" 9 Some would say: "This is he." Others would say: "Not at all, but he is like him." The man would say:"I AM."
The only thing new I noticed was about the "Spiritual Paradise" already being here.
That is not new. In my childhood, it used to be our CBS conductor's favorite topic that God's people has been living in a Spiritual Paradise since 1919.
I do not think that they get rid of 607/1914 so soon. They still mention 1914 in each magazine. Ray Franz mentioned that the Society's srategy is to be silent about tenets to change for some time and than come up with the new light.
But I am convinced that many JW feel that there is someting wrong about the 1914 date. -

Even in my hardcore active JW time I had no use for the JW calendar. I ordered it each year and put it into a drawer. Most months were really ugly illustrated and it was completly useless without the holidays. Even if you do not celebrate it is important to know when there are days on which you don't have to work.
Instead the stupid thing reminds the poor JW that each Saturday is a Magazine Day... And the memorial of course with its special Bible reading program.
BTW, to cut costs the calendar has become so tiny that you cannot even use it if you wished to. Like a postcard on the wall.
Did anyone of you have or is having any use for the JW calendar? (Except to toilet paper, or to lighten a fire?) ;-) -

I used to work for the Public Affairs Desk on a regional level. Not in a leading position, just a helper. About 1 year after I ceased attending meetings I got a message to help doing PR for the forthcoming DC.
I have never replied. -

Ray Franz df'd , what did the society say ??????
by run dont walk ini remember vaguely, well all hell broke loose in the late 70's regarding, ray franz being df'd, and the witch hunt at bethel.
i was just a little kid at the time, and didn't pay much attention.. i know ray's point of view, from what i've read on this board, and also ordered myself his book "crisis of conscience"(should be a good read).
i think back now, i remember the event happening, and the speaker talking about it at our circuit assembly, but i don't recall the reasons (bs) he gave.

I, too, was a kid back then and remember that it was pivately mentioned at the CBS, I guess because of the km announcement. I remember someone saying that this was a sign of the end.

Underlining the answers in the Watchtower magazines
by JH in.
i found it funny how some people would literally underline just about everything in the watchtower magazine.
the more the magazine was underlined and notes were written, the more a person looked spiritual.. did it ever happen that you didn't read your watchtower magazine, and you underlined just about anything just to look as if you read it?.

I heard of a CO that visited a family and caught on kid "studying" for the whole family. He had one pattern WT and underligned all the other WT of the family as in the pattern. :-)

First meeting the Elders, then going to see Eminem :-)
by GermanXJW inyesterday the elders were at my door trying to see me.
it was - of course - an inconvenient moment.
they said they would come back today.

GermanXJW
It was the PO. He came alone and was not prepared for anything as he said. He just wanted to say hello because he felt pity for us. That made me a little smile because I feel pity for those WT slaves.
I did not want to offend him and he did not exactly know what to say so we had a lot of small talk about job and family.
I tried to offer me a "study" which made me really grin. :-) I made it clear that I have no intentions going back, I mentioned my disgust for the 1914 date. I even told the UN/NGO-thing, that I have knowledge of the BOE letter and that it makes me puke how the WTS is trying to fool their own people. He could not comment on that one.
He tried to target my wife then to improve meeting attendance. She said that she decides on the very day, 1hr to the meeting if she feels like going. He wanted me to look after the kids when my wife wants to attend meetings and I replied we will talk about it.
Well, all in all it was a rather friendly meeting.
After that I went to have some fun with XZIBIT, D12, 50cents, Cyprus Hill and Eminem. :-) Was funny when dancing means to put one arm in the air. :-)) -

The thing is I got a ticket for Eminem's concert in Germany today. They better hurry up or I will have to tell them to go because I just have to go listen to some disgusting Rap music. :-)
I don't know what they want from me, maybe an invitation for the forthcoming DC? (It is at the same place where Eminem is performing today.) :-)
Maybe I will mention the UN/NGO thing but my time is limited.
