Saw Danish Worlds Apart movie, have questions

i just watched the danish film "worlds apart" last night.

it's the story of a jw girl who falls in love with a "worldly" boy and all of the problems in her life.

and if anybody wants to see it, it's on the independent film channel on-demand.

I saw the movie and I loved it.

I wouldn't focus too much on, what I call, "minor" details such as the ones you pointed out (elder with beard, or when the girl went out in FS in jeans). I noticed these things, too, but to an everyday "worldly" person, they wouldn't know the difference. I do kind of wonder if these types of things happen in Europe, so maybe someone can fill us in.

What IS important is the reality of what JW's go through, and this was only one example of the many thousands of stories out there. I also thought the script was well written, although there was a lot of information presented and most of it may be missed or few people would truly understand what it's like to be a JW. It's complicated being a JW, and unless you've been a part of it, it's hard to convey everything that goes along with it... especially in one movie.

Do Witness think they are fooling Jehovah when women teach at the meetings?

the witnesses claim to follow the bible and believe women are not to teach in the congregation.

when they give women parts on the meeting they try to get around this by having them pretend that they are just talking to each other and the audience is just overhearing a conversation between them when in fact they are teaching.

do they thing they are pulling one over on jehovah?

JW's called on me today for the first time since I left the organization

i often thought what i might do or say when jehovah's witnesses finally came to my door.

i live in urban chicago, so i had until now been imune because of security at appartments (fyi, the vast majority of urban chicago is completely unaddressed by the ministry work.

You should've asked them if Jesus was their mediator.

If they state Yes, ask them why the Watchtower says no, that he died only for 144,000.

If they state No, ask them how they planned on being saved if Jesus didn't die for them.

I can understand not wanting to get into a discussion with them.But I'm one to question them to try to get them to realize just how far they've deviated from the Bible.

WTF? Seriously? Did Peter or Paul ever include a Watchtower magazine back when they wrote their letters to the various churches in the 1st century?

i listened through the lates download wt, june 15, 2009. www.jw.org there is an article: the faithful steward and its governing body.. this article makes it clear that new anointed will not be consulted in preparing spiritual food.

other sheep are also told in other words not to listen to the opinion of new anointed in the congregations.. .

As has been mentioned, this June 15th article explains in greater detail what was mentioned in the 5/1/07 QFR. The last paragraph in that QFR clearly stated that both the anointed and the other sheep both follow the direction of the GB.

Previously, the GB have hidden themselves behind labels such as "faithful and discreet slave" and "anointed brothers", but now it will be clarified that it is the GB who take the lead and the only ones who can dictate doctrine. From what I observed, the regular everyday JW simply believes the anointed all somehow convene on what is truth. This article will let them know that this is not the case.

I don't think we'll know the true reason for this article, but it seems to me that the GB fear losing control over the sheeple. They want to make sure that the R/F know that it is THEY who are the Channel to God and no one else. I'm surprised I didn't hear a reference to the Moses/Korah incident in the Bible ("You wouldn't want to be like Korah and rebel against the GB, would you??").

I'm also wondering how in the world they can justify their power trip. The Reasoning Book clearly states that there was no Apostolic Succession, yet they are drawing a parallel to the apostles and that they are the modern-day version.

OK, I just listened to the audio of the study article. It seems they took the 5/1/07 QFR and have now turned it into a Study Article, with scriptures and contexts pulled left and right to support their current setup. And Sir82 is right: They are moving towards creating 3 classes of Christians for JW's (this has existed, I feel, since 1976 when the GB took power, but only now has it been clearly explained to the R/F). The GB will no longer hide behind such words as "faithful and discreet slave" or "anointed brothers" or whatever. Now it will be crystal clear that the GB, and only they, are fully responsible for all the "truths" published.

Running ahead of Jehovah

as i was exiting the society back in 1992, the elders were frantically trying to reason with me and kept saying that i was trying to run ahead of jehovah or running ahead of the organization?

just what does that entail?.

or they would tell me to "wait on jehovah" and eventually some of my beliefs/issues will be in line with the truth.

It means that you're not allowed to believe anything else, unless the GB is teaching it officially.

Enforced unity, even under accepting false prophecy, is all the WT cares about.

Well well, what a surprise. If you all remember, the 5/1/07 QFR stated that "anointed" members have no more Holy Ghost than the Great Crowd, and that they don't demand any special attention. The very last paragraph stated that the anointed and the great crowd all follow under the direction of the GB. I know that every-day-JW's still believe that the "anointed" are running the organization. Maybe this article will wake them up a bit... It's not a surprise they're finally putting in print what has been established for so long. Which is it, the tail wagging the dog, or the other way around?

we have arrived at a time & place where we take access to information for granted.

easy, right...you type your query into the search engine and bam, you've got 100 gazillion hits on your subject.

and, most of us are saavy enough to know that a preponderance of the info is total bullshit.

Alpaca, it's not only the internet I sometimes question, but history books as well. How do we know that people have written the truth about how things happened in the past? No one alive today was there when Columbus arrived in the Americas.

After coming out the WT, I've learned to question almost everything. I'm not paranoid about everything, but I don't easily accept everything either, without researching it first.

I thought about Orwell's 1984 as well, when I read your first post..
