Let's not forget that Ray Franz also pointed out in that letter sent out to elders in 1980 that "simply believing" (as in, inside their head and not sharing it with others) something other than what's officially doctrine, one could be considered an apostate. The GB will go to great lengths to smear anyone who doesn't believe in them.

What makes an apostate...
by IronHill inan apostate for witnesses?.
i only ask because we have had several conversations with family members who want to make sure we have not become "apostates".
a rumor has been going around that we have become, sign carrying, picketing kh's attending, leaflet printing apostates.

Interesting topic. If indeed the WT believes that there would be no more meat-eating in the New System, then you would think they would start preparing the rank and file to accept this NOW and have them change their food lifestyle.

HA! the BORG!
by stillin inok, i'm a little slow.
i watched star trek but i just hadn't put it together in my head why some here refer to "the organization" as the borg.
i wasn't sure whether it was just me being discontented or whether the public speakers at kingdom halls were really getting less and less worthy of presenting themselves in front of an audience.. the idea was supposed to be that "mature ones" could overlook a colorless delivery and glean all of the spiritual truths that are being presented.

"Resistance is futile."
Unless you happen to be part of the younger crowd that could care less about the deluded JW fantasy world.

Another question for Christians: 'No one comes to the father except through me'
by paul from cleveland inoften times the scripture 'no one comes to the father except through me' is used as proof that we shouldn't recognize an earthly governing body.
how does that scripture prove that a governing body isn't just part of the 'chain of command' leading to the father?
it doesn't seem to necessarily preclude the possiblility of an earthly governing body by itself..

Because Jesus didn't say "No one comes to the father except through me and you apostles, my faithful and discreet slaves." If he had, we'd be in a world of hurt.

1914 cannot go away for at least another 50 or so years. It has to be really, really far into the future. The reason for this is simply as has already been stated: it is ingrained as part of their preaching work. A LOT would have to be discarded before you can do anything to 1914 (i.e. the 'Gentile Times' ending in 1914, the appointment of the FDS in 1919, the supposed "last days" starting since 1914, the ousting of Satan in 1914). Too much is still tied to this date to be forgotten so quickly. Nevermind the fact that many would be stumbled if the GB suddenly discarded it. Although it does get mentioned fewer and fewer times, it still plays a significant part in the whole Witness mentality and in the stranglehold of the GB.

JWs don't leave the organization over doctrine
by doublelife incan anyone help me with a quote from a publication studied in '09 that had a box that said jws leave over selfish reasons but not over doctrine?
i think it was studied in the bs but i can't find it and i already tried the search feature.
i remember someone posted about it at the time it was studied.

It was in one of the early 2009 Study WT's but I'm not sure which one... I'm racking my brain for it too...

Most JW's have not thought this through (i.e. no cell phones, no supermarkets, no fuel for cars). I would be willing to bet that they're counting on those "new scrolls" that are supposed to be opened up during the Millenium to tell them what to do next.
For a religion that is counting on 6 billion people to die, the WT does little to teach the R/F basic survival skills.

Crisis of Conscience page 23
by Butterflyleia85 in"the society's vice president, fred franz, was acknowledged as the organization's principal bible scholar.
on a number of occasions i went to his office to inquire about points.
to my surprise he frequently directed me to bible commentaries, saying, "why don't you see what adam clarke says, or what cooke says," or, if the subject primarily related to the hebrew scriptures, "what the socino commentaries say.".

There was a paragraph along those same pages that one day made me just laugh out loud at how ridiculous Freddie Franz really was. Ray was doing some research into why the WT inserted "older men" into some scripture (or something like it) and when Ray went to go ask Freddie, all Freddie could say was, "Why don't you consult a less-biased Bible?". Can you believe this?? The NWT was, and still is, toted as the one Bible in the world that is supposed to unbiased. Even Ray admitted that he walked out of the room not knowing if what he had heard was true or not. Crazy!

A possible explanation for the new "Generation" understanding
by agonus inholy crap, i just realized something!.
could it be that the unusually quickly-replaced "new light" came about as a result of the wt's last explanation unintentionally matching generation 2, then changing it again once they (and countless folks on the internet) figured out it was the same explanation, to save face?.
i mean, is it possible the gb made up the last "new light" completely unaware that it matched the 1927 explanation, then changed it in an oh-shit moment when they realized not long after that they'd already used that one?.

I doubt it because as it has already been pointed out, there was a box in the 2/15/08 WT, with the heading "Can We Calculate the Length of 'This Generation'?" and in this box they brought out the generation of Joseph and Exodus 1:6. They did state that the generations would "overlap" so that's why they have the latest interpretation.

Again with this teaching?? The GB really are pathetic. They need to just admit they are wrong and leave it alone. But they can't..
This new teaching is supposed to inspire fear in the newer JW's, that 'the end' really is close (uh, this time around).
For example, my sister (still a JW) tells me that in her congo there are plenty of those who believe the end is close because the anointed won't all pass away and that they're all getting old. This teaching will only reinforce that fear. But the ones who think this way are newer JW's. Most of these people weren't JW's during the 60s and 70s, so they weren't around for 1975. And they also weren't around when the WT started talking fear about 'apostates' and the 'generation not passing away'. They weren't around for the first cold chill in 1995, when the WT changed the generation teaching.
The other reason I think they started teaching this is because the GB is trying to make itself look as if it knew all along that this is what Jesus meant, and that they weren't really wrong in 1995.
In the end, it's all prophetic fluff.
