  yesterday, i saw a picture of a family signing kingdom melodies together.

  it made me realize a fact that i am somewhat ashamed to admit:.

  for over a decade, i have been aware of the false prophecies, the deceptive statements, the lack of scriptural support for many core practices and other issues with the witnesses.

  You know what's funny? Shortly after the new music was released, I popped into a kingdom hall for one Sunday session. I pretended I knew nothing about JWs and everyone was polite to me and said Hello (this was at a KH where I knew nobody). But during the 5-minute conversation I held with these JWs, they OPENLY admitted that they did NOT like the new songs! Here I was, a stranger and potential convert for them, and they're bashing the new songs!

  I'd have to agree. There is a deep, emotional tie to the old music and when they changed the music, it cut deep for a lot of JWs.

  the watch tower bible and tract society represent itself as christian.. it represents its theology and policies as direct from jehovah god through his son, jesus christ.. further, the governing body of this corporation interposes itself between the mediator, jesus, and the rest of jehovah's (christian) witnesses for the purpose of "feeding them (spiritual) food at the proper time.. the official word of jesus christ is represented in the watch tower's policy on blood transfusions.. in 1998 this statement was made:.

  jehovah's witnesses do not accept whole blood, or major components of blood, namely, red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma.

  Terry, I started a topic about this very scripture 6 years ago. I tried to reason with my in-laws that Jesus would have allowed blood transfusions. My sis-in-law was going into the hospital and knew she was going to need blood to survive her operation. Here it is:

  This was at a time when I was coming to learn TTATT. This was a dark time for our families...

  My sis-in-law didn't make it. My father-in-law is now OUT of the Watchtower and was deeply saddened when he realized he probably could've saved her life (the Power of Attorney was under his control).

  No matter how much you try to REASON with a JW, they are so mind-locked with how the GB has interpreted the scriptures that JW's will just NOT see it.

  i was always told it was satan and his demons making people think they exist.

  This is a topic that has fascinated me ever since about 2 years ago. I, too, used to believe that "ghosts" were just Satan and his demons playing around with us, trying to scare us or make us fear them. But then I started to research this phenomenom and found that life does exist after we die. Many are quick to deny this and dismiss it all as having a logical explanation. I agree that some instances can be disproved, but many more instances cannot.

  I highly recommend you watch a TV program called Paranormal Witness. Most of the episodes are on Netflix. Start by watching Season 1, episode 3. The family interviewed had ACTUAL video evidence that something in their house was trying to hurt them. The more I studied events such as these, the more convinced I became that "ghosts" are real. I no longer believe it is Satan or his demons. I believe "ghosts" are people who have died but remain on earth for some unknown reason.

  You may also research something called The Scole Experiment. It is a documentary on Netflix as well. The Scole Experiment is about a group of mediums and scientists who came together to study the afterlife during the 80s and 90s. Their findings are interesting as well.

  You have described exactly how I grew up. I was never physically beat up but the taunts from the other kids was enough to push my self-esteem down further. I also didn't quite fit in in the KH.

  Yes, I agree, growing up as a JW is most definitely a form of mental abuse. Not being able to explore one's own personality and imagination is the worst form of theft, since we are left with an empty shell filled with their form of how a person "should be". The GB should answer for all the lives they have taken.

  Now I'm 31 years old and I'm barely getting to know even myself. I lack imagination, I struggle to keep friends, and I still don't feel like I belong anywhere (I am fortunate to have some friends from when I was growing up; they didn't give up on me). But I move forward and I strive to be creative and positive as much as possible. As far as I know, we only live once and I feel like I need to do everything I can to move past this; I feel that if I give up now, that they win. And I can't let them win.

  Update on "DA'd/DF'd"...

  since many of you were kind enough to give your responses, or at least share in my confusion, i wanted to take some time to share things that went down in the last few days in my family.. to recap, i was born-in but thankfully the hogwash never took.

  i was actively dodging meetings by age 13 by faking illness, usually missing 20 to 25 days of school per year.

  i left my family to attend college and was told by a family member that an announcement was made in my local congregation the following year that i was disassociated.

  The level of control the WTS had back then was strictly severe, as Blondie pointed out above. Before the age of the internet, when everybody had to rely on a small community of support, it was easy to ostracize and expel any non-believers. With the advent of computers and the internet, people have found it easier to connect with others and expand their community to include many hundreds of like-minded people. It has become harder for the WT to maintain the control they had before, when people were unable to connect with the larger world around them. Much like the Dark Ages, before the printing press.

  Anyone noticed a curiosity on the Memorial Invitation for 2013 ?

  i can't scan the memorial invitation for 2013, but i was looking at it today and noticed something curious on the front drawing.. we have jesus as the central figure of the composition.

  to his right and bottom, a large crown, in colour, of shiny happy people of diverse origins.. separated from this by the figure of jesus, is another group, a much smaller one, on the left and as if ascending to the top, and grayed.. clearly portrayed in this group is the face of ct russell and apparently william tyndale.

  but then, also sarah and abraham and other personalities of the ot seem to be represented there.

  then they followed up with their loyalty question, "do you believe in the faithful and discreet slave?".

  of course i answered "no", and shortly thereafter i handed over my disassociation letter.

  Thanks everybody for their responses. I feel for some of you. These people are stone cold, and you see it even at the end when they're disfellowshipping you. Lied2NoMore, that would've been the perfect moment to have that baseball bat!! Some of you are completely right, these people should have at least offered one last prayer but that would mean showing compassion, something they lack. JWOP, I thought about doing the same thing and going through an appeal process but I was drained and I didn't want to expend any more energy on them. The elders have too much invested to give anything I would've said a 2nd thought.

Then they followed up with their loyalty question, "Do you believe in the faithful and discreet slave?". Of course I answered "No", and shortly thereafter I handed over my Disassociation letter. Immediately after that, they looked down and away and that was basically my queue to walk away. Is this how it was for any of you? I find it very odd that that was how they ended it. I know they weren't going to wish me well or anything, but to simply look down and away? That was it? If you decided to attend the JC they formed for you, how did it end?
