Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(
by reniaa ini've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!
i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.
they said to me "be happy you are in reality now and enjoy it" and i thought "well if this is reality i've had enough of it".

Why are Pedophile attracted to JWs?
by MMae inbadboy raised the above question in another thread.
i was wondering how much jw training and/or fear of god played a role in jw childrens' victimization.
these are my comments:.

I was brought up in a cong where I called everyone aunty and uncle and could not have asked for a nicer up bringing.
Sirona, I see your point but I get the feeling that your snow blind, look at the numbersin my original post, if 20 Million girls in the US alone, and Im sure those figures are probably typical for the western world, are abused, and if pedophiles were attracted, we would have larger growth, we dont. Our abuse rates are the same as every were else Im sure.
For all those people that are really passionate, put your energies into support for victims and lobby against easily accessible porn. Thats where the fault lise to some degree.
And really, Im sure if a man worth his pair heard of abuse in the org, the 2 witness rule would go out the window and most dads I know in the org love their kids as much as anyone and would die if anything happened. -

I think its a family issue, not a religious one. Parents and families and communities should take more care of our children, in that order.

Seriously this is a stupid question.
I agree the WT policy is pathetic, no argument there.
But to kid yourself into thinking its a JW problem is just plain silly.
Some studies put the number of girls in abused in the US at 62%.
20% of americans are under 16, boy/girl split roughly 50/50, so 10% of america is female and under 16.
Population is around 300 Million so approximately 20 million girls are abused in the US every year. Thats 38 girls every minute in the US alone.
It aint a JW issue, its a global one, if you really feel strongly about stopping it, stop bashing an org that doesnt handle it right and put your energies into more preventative issues.
Further:
Finkelhor D.
Family Research Laboratory, University of New Hampshire, Durham 03824.
The main finding from epidemiological literature on child sexual abuse is that no identifiable demographic or family characteristics of a child may be used to exclude the possibility that a child has been sexually abused. Some characteristics are associated with greater risk: girls more than boys, preadolescents and early adolescents, having a stepfather, living without a natural parent, having an impaired mother, poor parenting, or witnessing family conflict. Class and ethnicity appear not be associated with risk. In any case, none of these factors bear a strong enough relationship to the occurrence of abuse that their presence could play a confirming or disconfirming role in the identification of actual cases. -

i thought the biggest change was "all these things".
That used to be 1914, we used to speculate as to how old a generation was and work out he date of armageddon from there.
NOW, 1914 is not the event the generation had to see, its now all three phases of TGT.
If you think thats old, you must be on the GB!! -

AlmostAtheist, at the risk of going way off topic, I undertand and agree with your comment.
People on this forum have lost alot in the process of fading and I see that as an intelligent process.
I just dont understand how one could be so resolute in their position of the ORG and GB and yet be in fear of their parents and even give a talk.
I mean I hate alot of policy and dont agree with all doctrine, but im still looking, whereas the original poster seems to have made up their mind, which is great, but to then stand up and give a talk just seems a bit hypocritical.
I think it makes a mockery of the intellectual process and the basic right of man to stand up for what he believes in. -

Latest Watchtower Magazine Increases Odds of Surviving Armageddon!
by TooBad TooSad in99% of all jw's believe and are taught that to survive armageddon that you must be a jw or as a minimum be.
associated with the jw's.
however the april 1 "public" issue of the watchtower has some interesting wording.

Hey Blondie, I think in view of recent developments this could be considered "old light" in as much as "flee" no longer means to leave BTG and come to "truth".
This subtle change could be interesting to follow, if you have studied the REV book over the last couple of weeks you will notice that twice it says that there "will be no mass conversion" yet they do not back it up with a scripture.
And it seems that there is a few conflicting "current truths". -

no you wont see me around and Im not buying into this whole "my parents will kick me out" saga.
I read your post re. your talk. Why come here to do research? You have a CD rom, do your own talk.
And if you're BIG enough to say such overly disparaging comments about the FDS ( which is your right), why do a talk at all?
And when Billy the Bonus Bethelite comes back at you with some "meat" you tuck tail and run.
Either stand up for you're belief and people will support you or admit your still searching and people will be patient.
But to play the whole repressed kid thing, I aint buying it, your being soft and you know it.
You write 'Gubberning Body duckspeak language" here and cant even say no to a #4 talk?
Say it like you've got a pair.
