Hey everybody :)
After a post yesterday about dead loved ones returning in spirit form I started to think, from an ex JW standpoint, when it comes to the spirit world where is the middle ground? Perhaps some ex JW's don't believe in a spirit world anymore, perhaps some still do. Some people are very "informed" on spirits, the spirit realm, communication with, what to embrace and what to avoid. Others try to not think or acknowledge a spirit world at all. JW's are in fear of all spirits except those with Jehovah. Many people have had paranormal experiences, while others attribute those experiences to factors other than spirits. So for the average logical thinking person...where's the balance in view?

Thanks to everyone! Some great info on that mysterious orange book that supposedly is difinitive. I love how it's presented as completely based archaeological finds, I remember the pictures of old tablets and artifacts. Funny how they left all the other texts that were discovered along the way in addition to what's in the Bible as we know it.

I've recently been trying to grapple with this as well, not so much as dead loved ones, but in terms of the spirit realm in general. Obviously as a JW, especially a child, it is highly stressed that demons do exist and are inheritantly bad. This information in addition to the strange practices my grandfather was involved in has instilled a deep fear of "demons." Now in adult life I grapple with the idea of a "spirit world" in whatever form or function, and if that is indeed a reality, what if any bearing that has on me now. I had a very strange dream about it the other night. In the dream I was lying in my bed, the one I had at my parents house, and I was in distress, fearful, wanting to know once and for all if spirits were real and if I was at risk. Then all of the sudden I remember seeing a black substance of some kind and it swooped over me, almost through me, and I remember in the dream getting that feeling in the pit of my stomach like when you're on a roller coaster, and then suddenly an overwhelming feeling of peace and calmness came over me, and it was like someone was telling that yes it was real and not to be afraid.
I have no idea what, if anything, that dream "means." Or that it's anything other than my subconscious expressing itself on a matter that's been on my conscious mind. In any event, it was certainly reassuring to know that at least a part of me is ok with there being a "spirit world." Still though, it is something I don't understand and that I am very leary of, though I would like some concrete answers. I think that's the hard part, knowing what information is trustworthy that's out there. -

Can You Be Satisfied Just Having Faith
by Undecided ini seem to be overwhelmed with not being satisfied with not knowing the answers to life and the universe.
i can't seem to just accept some ancient writings of mankinds beginning.
to have faith do you just ignore all questions that may be contrary to what you believe?

I agree completely, it is quite a healthy thing to question such things. I think the bottom line comes down to what your "faith" means to you. If you are searching for answers, that by very definition is not "faith." There are many, many religions that profess true "faith." But really what they provide is assumptions in the form of asnwers. Faith is a belief without proof. And without proof we are left with the knowledge we've gained from experiences in life, things that are tangible and not up for debate. Faith can also be applied to abilities, as in the ability of oneself to discern what is true and what is not. We may never know, as a fact, the true reality of things. That doesn't mean it's crazy to question things, but when those questions hold us back from better knowing ourselves and the divine (in whatever application you choose to label something as "divine") in each of us, than really it's not the lack of concrete answers but self doubt that holds each of us back.

Hey everybody :) Happy snow day for anyone else in Denver...what a fun drive in this morning!
I am working on a project and wondering if anyone out there is a guru on the borg's book "The Bible, God's Word or Man's?" That is if they haven't replaced it yet. I'm looking for any relevant incorrect facts stated in the book that disagree with historical records. As with many things their history the Bible seemed very censored, looking back on it now. Just trying to point out some specifics. -

Good god, just seeing the borgs artwork after such a long time and their streamline of shite flinging theories makes my stomach do flip flops. I can't even believe they had the gaul to print something about sex abuse covers ups. Wait, let me re-phrase. I can believe they had the gual, but I can't believe their legal dept and PR dept let it slip and such a phrase as "Priests sexually exploit young people; church cover-up" actually got printed. Has anybody seen those silly Claritin Clear allergy drug commercials? Where they show people doing something with a fuzzy picture and then suddenly they take this wonder drug and everything is crystal clear? That's how I feel about the org, you just dont know how mucky those waters are, and hence your view of everything, until you take a wonder drug (whatever that may be) and suddenly everything is clear.
