Memorial Day.... still struggling with the idea of war and support

so i do respect and am very greatful for the sacrifies those who dedicated their family, lives, etc.

to defend our freedom, lives, and land, but if we lived in a world where we lived as monks or jehovah's witnesses (basicly just the practise of no war).... would that be wrong?.

what's a good lesson or level of reasoning when supporting the idea of war?.

I do remember the Alamo. There have been some great movies about it. Unfortunately they all ignore the fact that the people defending the Alamo were foreign invaders. Texas was Mexican territory, Americans had no right to the place.

Actually many of the people defending the Alamo were people who had been liberally allowed to immigrate into Texas to help in settling the territory. They were given this right by the Mexican government that had only existed as a nation for 16 years itself having won it's independence in the Mexican Revolution. So, essentially the people had a complete right to be there.

Also, they kicked ass. Thusly you have Texas.

there are so many different types of people here and you have your ex elders and former zealots and weaker personalities and everything in between.. sometimes, not all the time, it's hard to see the behavioral difference between a former jw and a current one..

really, the bible was written by nothin' but goat herders?

i don't post much but this does irk me.

yes a few may have been shepherds or fisherman, but a fair amount were far more educated and were professionals in their fields of occupation.

I think that the word to describe them should start with "Goat" and end with "er" but with a completely different word in the middle. Let the reader use discernment.

I don't get it ... 80% of people in Oklahoma DON'T have a Tornado Shelter. Are they nuts ????

i really don't understand.

how can any homeowner in his right mind, not have a tornado shelter ???

i understand that some people live in apartments and condos, but someone with any size yard (even a driveway) could have a shelter.. to me it's a no-brainer.

Downtown OKC had a Gay Pride Festival, out in the open on a major street, and everything!

Oh Hell! I almost forgot! Back in the early 90's they had a small gay pride rally on the north side of the Myriad on the Saturday of the Convention. Talk about a scandalized bunch of yahoos! I remember everyone standing on the 2nd floor looking out the large windows at the terrible gays. LOL

I also remember doing construction clean-up on those areas in Moore back when I was a kid. My Uncle got a contract to clean the jobsites after construction was finished and got to keep any unused material. He made out like a bandit.

Coming from Oklahoma let me weigh in on this subject and correct all the glaring bullshit that I've read so far.

1st: Storm shelters are expensive. For instance s helters from this company start at $2600.

2nd: It's very common in rural Oklahoma to have one family with a cellar (Storm Shelter) and for other relatives living nearby to go there before and during storms. With longer lead times that are now common due to better forecasting this is viable for some people, my mother being one of them.

3rd: The odds of being hit by a tornado are still small. I've lived in Oklahoma and Texas for 42 years and have never seen a tornado on the ground.

4th: Building an underground storm shelter is much more difficult than you can imagine. You don't just dig a hole and line it with cinder blocks and if you do you need to go ahead and bring a casket with you because you're f***ed like Chuck if heavy debris falls on it.
