I've always tried to live up to my own standards of "good".
I didn't need a religion for that.
I just now have the freedom to go further down my own road.
i was raised in it.
for the most part i was an exemplary jw.
i'm a very social fun loving person.
I've always tried to live up to my own standards of "good".
I didn't need a religion for that.
I just now have the freedom to go further down my own road.
as many of you already know, my wife and i left the jws simply because we discovered it was not true.
we did not commit any sins, and we did not sow seeds of doubt in the congregation.
in fact, at the last meeting my wife attended, she still fully believed it was the truth.. .
My dad was placed into the "limbo" class in the late 1970's.
After 20 years of no progress (elders don't know how to advise, WTS says it's up to the elders) he got back in their good graces by apologizing for any misunderstandings and hung out like a prodigal son at the back of the hall for a few years.
Eventually they let him back in.
Of course, in his case, he wanted back in (for whatever reasons).
this is in response to dubr post.
welcome to the board dubr.
i whish you and your wife success and happiness in your new path.
Some of the above really goes into territory that would be termed "fanwanking" in other online communities - making stuff up out of whole cloth.
There's more to what went on between Abraham and God? Really? Isn't that rather JW-ish? "There must have been more because our interpretation doesn't really make sense on it's own"? Why would God not give us the whole story of his unchanging perfection in his inerrant Word??
reading the book, you can live forever in paradise earth, on page 81 end of paragraph two it reads, "this raises the question: did almighty god create such a place of torment?
well, what was god's view when the israelites, following the example of peoples who lived nearby, began to burn their children in fire?
he explains in his word: "they have built the high places of topheth, which is in the valley of the son of hinnom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, a thing i had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart.".
Man has nasty emotions and petty demands and insists on painting these on God.
God is far removed from nasty emotions and petty demands, or he wouldn't be God.
God may be eternal - and in so being is eternally out of reach from those that use Him for their own anti-life leanings.
It can be scary to take respnsibility for your own fears, jealousies, needs to control your fellow man.
...if you check out a female co-worker from behind?
according to a harassment class i attended for work it is.
and if i see a co-worker doing this i'm obligated to report him to an hr representative.
If no one is aware, no problem.
If the target is aware, leers and stares are initimdating, a breaking of a professional barrier, inappropriate.
If a third party is aware, you are creating a hostile workplace.
Geez, does no one have any degree of self control? Or ability to monitor their professional behavior?
On the other side, provocative dress is just as inappropriate in the workplace as pornography. I've sent female staff home to change for inappropriate dress.
Yes, there's a degree of subjectivity about what is a "leer", a "stare", "inappropriate dress", and it is bound in the specific community.
what exaclty does the jw mean by force regarding the hs?.
how that force came to exist in the first place?.
if jah used that force to create the universe...would that force ever vanish?
This Holy Spirit as person sounds rather animistic to me...but then, considering how I was raised, I'm not surprised!
There does seem to be a similarity, though, the way Trinitarian thought speaks about the Holy Spirit and how Native American thought speaks about the natural world (wind, earth, water...).
there's a lot.. one rule that is dumb is that a brother must wear a suit for a sunday public talk that he is giving.
any other time, the brother could wear a suit coat with a different pair of pants and not be counseled for it.. another dumb idea is that you cannot date a person unless you seriously might marry them.
if you're on a date, you were supposed to always have a chaperone and holding hands might not be allowed as well as sitting together.. what other dumb rules and ideas can you add?.
That losing his "son" while on Earth was any great hardship to God.
He's GOD. Is he going to get upset that the wheels he put into motion are momentarily painful for his son, a "perfect man"?
Did he forget his son would be raised from the dead and finally returned to his Heavenly place?
God must be an idiot.
after i decided/resolved to return to meetings several months ago, after being away on and off for several years; i can honestly say that i feel far more settled and comfortable in attending meetings again.. i struggled to attend before, having been reproved, then moving to a different congregation which i didnt find to be overly freindly.
it was only after i was reproved that i began to see all the past history of the soc iety(via internet) and the many things that simply stumbled me.
3 times i tried to return to meetings and three times i fell away.
Seems like more sleight of hand to me:
Misdirection (don't pay attention to the stuff that's wrong, it's just not important) and selective belief (they got some stuff right...ok, if so, so what?)
When you come to a crossroads of releasing yourself from the bonds of emotional slavery versus running headlong back into them, your choice is to grow up and get better or continue in an addiction.
Just my opinion.
so one of my in-laws spent the weekend with us.
supposedly she came over to do some shopping for her daughter's wedding.
turns out she was here to make another stab at recruiting us into her latest mlm.
Kult is as kult does.
It seems rather like "addictive personality" - the flavor of the month isn't so important as the belonging to an exclusive group.
in your own opinion: do the governing board members believe their own prophecies, stories, and articles?
.
do you think they are true believers in the core religion or fakers simply behaving as profiteers?.
I think most of them are True Believers.
I think some of them are along for the ride.
