I imagine it is frustrating defending an untenable position...personally, I find value in seeing "over the fence", whatever that territory might be like.

Today? Not sure...growing up: doctrinally, competition was cast as evil. Aggression more so. Some school sports were more acceptable than others, football was viewed as the worst since it seemed to be physically more aggressive than others (such as, say, basketball) with its sought-after physical contact.
I saw a great discrepancy in what was thought of as OK during short periods like during a recess or lunch, but wrong when done at a specific time as an event. It was the same activity; what would make it wrong when it there was time formally set aside for it?
But the official doctrines were widely ignored, and typical mental gymnastics were performed to make doctrine not applicable for those that played - especially if they played well. Kind of like, Rock songs are evil, m'kay, because of the bad lyrics, m'kay, but I don't listen to the words so it's alright, m'kay?

I'm with Dawg - I have never stopped loving anyone that I have loved, and love them more deeply with the passing of time.
Once upon a time I loved you completely
(from Desert for Rain by ve)
After all this time love still comes so easy
Maybe after all we’ve done we should be scarred and too gun shy
Even though your C.O.s blown we laugh as much as we can cry -

Slowly but surely...
by nvrgnbk inword is spreading.. the elder that works with me told me that a ministerial servant in his congo asked him about the un scandal.. he confirmed to the brother that the watchtower was involved with the un but later disassociated itself and warned him that not all elders would handle his question so discreetly.. i doubt we'll see the cult disappear, but it's encouraging to see that many are waking up and are at least asking some difficult questions..

My God! Uh, no pun intended...
They can break their vows for a lousy library card while borthers in Malawi died because they can't join a political party...

Can I have an a la carte' baptism?
by DJPoetech incan i receive a proper baptism by one church in the name of the father, son, and holy spirit and then determine where i would like to go for fulfilling fellowship.
or do i have to get baptised each time i settle into a new location or go to a new church.
i would love to have something that will provide me a baptism and communion only deal with no strings attached.

Pesky rodent...! How are you?
DJP: It sounds like you may be asking for too much logic in the forum of organized religion...
Avi: Thanks for the baptism! I feel tingly...in a good way...

Inactive, though still go to the
sales showsfunerals as my relatives pass away. Not been to a meeting since about 1985 or so. I look at bottles of wine and boxes of crackers at the store once a year, since I wouldn't be drinking/eating anyway (though I suspect that if there's an afterlife we're all going to be in the same place!).Still: with privileges
Ooh! I always wanted that kind of friend!
Lover: [DFed for arguing] Sisters' rights to wear Leg-Warmers in the Field Service
I wish I could say I am shocked - I'm laughing only because it is so GD painful...
Mono: wow, brother mono is taking notes, how encouraging
You are just too cool for words...I wish I had some of the prose I wrote back then, or the little portaitures I experimented with...
AKJeff: drinks blood and howls at the moon while worshipping Satan
Can you show me how? Please?
Dawg: I'm evil you see?
But it looks good on you...redheads are always attractive, especially when they're evil.
