My First Counselling Session. EDMR anybody?
by Crumpet inso it hadn't escaped my attention that two weeks ago i was melting faster than a snowman on a lava flow path.. i had to do something.
i ended up in hospital.
i hoped this would mean i'd get help, not just medication, which i've tried for 6 months and hasn't really helped.

Hi Crumpet:
Do you mean EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMDR.
I have benefitted from EMDR. It tries to work at a neural as well as cognitive level to more adequately process and integrate (usually traumatic) experiences. Much of the trauma we experience is "trapped" in a way in our bodies, if you will (a terribly oversimplified description), and EMDR as well as other integrative modalities work to bridge the mind/body gap.
I, too, found your writing compelling and passionate. Thank you for sharing something of yourself, so personal and touching. I appreciate the trust and daring of your talking about this.

Bronze Elephant: The new Golden Calf
by tula insecretary-general's statement at unveiling of bronzeelephant in garden of un headquarters -- thanks expressed to kenya, namibia and nepal for gift that will be 'daily reminder that we are all in debt to mother earth' .
( my commentary: mother earth...pantheistic religion in place).
this is the text of a statement by secretary-general kofi annan in new york today at the unveiling in the headquarters garden of the bronze cast of "the sleeping elephant", presented to the united nations by the governments of kenya, namibia and nepal: .

Does this represent the symbolism of SLEEP PARALYSIS of those under hypnotic trance of "religion"?
It seems to represent an elephant. While not my favorite animal, I like elephants. They are big and unusual and I find their lives interesting.

If you had a time machine, what year would you want to go see first?
by JH ini loved the 1980's and i guess that if i had a time machine, i'd go back to the early 1980's.
.
send me back to 1980 .

There is not a single day I would want to relive during my lifetime - so I'd have to go back before 1960. Maybe 1956 to see the impact of the '57 Nomad and the '57 T-Bird when they first hit the streets...

Jehovah's Witnesses Are NOT Conscientious & They Don't Really Care!
by minimus inwitnesses try to make it sound as though they are very very conscientious people.
they care about you, your spiritual welfare, your everlasting welfare....but nothing could be further from the truth!
if they truly cared, they would see to it that they reached people to give them the lifesaving truth.

Rim: Have yet to find (in my brief search) Alan Carter writings that are concise. Can you recommend a (non-rambling) summation? Some of what he alludes to is interesting but presupposes a context - and is jargon-heavy. He seems to be speaking along the lines of perception being guided by presupposition? Perhaps an offshoot of EST/Scientology, with a biochemical foundation to articulate it?
Jaguar:
Its the dopamine...
I would disagree that the biochemical nature of emotions and satisfaction make life "crude", it's just the mechanical underpinnings of our emotional experience (e.g., Molecules of Emotion by Pert). That experience and cognition occur as physical processes makes it more mysterious to me, not less.
I would also disagree that making heroin legal would turn everyone into Reefer Madness-like drug fiends (if that is what you might be suggesting). There are plenty of places in the world where drugs are legal and have a place in culture. There are addicts everywhere, but this doesn't seem to be a function of legality (except the "mysteriousness" of the forbidden may drive too many to experimentation without the balance of knowledge).

Has anyone read the book 'The Shining'?
by lfcviking ini'm not much of a reader really, but i'm halfway through reading this book at the moment and i am really enjoying it.
stephen king has such a wild imagination, he really is a truly talented man.. i loved the film aswell, i think jack nicholson's acting in this film is sublime.
jack's acting combined with king's imagination, and stanley kubrick's directing combine to form a true masterpiece.. any other fans of this book/film?.

I've read most of King's work (except for the Dark Tower series). The Shining wasn't one that kept me enthralled at the time, though I think I could go back and read it again today and better appreciate it. I also could not quite get the hang of Salem's Lot, in book nor in film (either of the versions). i think I understand them intellectually, but didn't connect with them emotionally very well.
I thought the creepiest King books were Carrie and Fire Starter, perhaps because of the combination of girls with spooky powers.
Dolores Claiborne was my favorite adapataion of a King novel to film.

Awesome Vista Home Premium Hack!
by Elsewhere ini'm running vista home premium at home and one of the things about it that sorely disappointed me was the fact that it does not have remote desktop.
you have to pay a lot more for vista ultimate or vista business to get the remote desktop feature.. today i tried out a new hack that turns on the remote desktop functionality and it worked like a charm!.
here ya go:.

Bask in some joy at being thought of,
Shed a tear if the feeling comes up,
Thank her for her thinking of you,
Let her know how important this was.Find a nice place to hang the picture that lets you see it when you like - when coming in, when leaving, when at rest, where ever works.

So much to do in the name of service...but what is being served?
I sense a crisis coming up...
And that guy she's interested in - what a jerk!
