Difference between "raised in the truth" and "converts" that are now X-JWs.
by Brocephus ini am noticing a difference..... "raised in's" seem to be a little more relaxed and better suited for their world after the kh.
"converts" seem to be a little disoriented.
maybe b/c they saw the truth as away out of this crazy world only to be massive dissapointed.

Earth Tilted Just Before Noah's Flood
by cameo-d infrom the book of enoch: book of noah: .
1 and in those days, noah saw the earth had tilted and that it's destruction was near.".
there were also other observations that the laws of nature were suspended.

Another Fun Fact: a "water canopy" around the Earth would have prevented Life As We Know It from existing.
PS - if the sun rose in the west, the Earth's tilt would have changed 180 degrees. That's a bit severe even for OT Jehovah. Why would he put it back? Makes no sense. Maybe the scriptures are so amazingly ahead of their time that they're describing magnetic pole shift instead. Or something equally irrelevent to rain.
Thanks, Leo!

Accidentally Got an Email from a JW. . .
by leavingwt ina few minutes ago, a former jw friend of mine (ex-bethelite) sent me a bulk email.
this happened once before, a few months back, i just deleted it, but found it curious that he hadn't removed all "known apostates" from his address book.. .
this time, i couldn't let it pass.

I'd respond to the How are you doing, and completely ignore the Are you back.

I'm scaring my self
by JeffT ini am finalizing the manuscript of my novel (if i don't get a taker soon i'm going to self-publish this summer).
it concerns the inside workings of an apocalyptic cult.
i'm playing a lot with language and the meaning of words, and one of the features (what i'm working on now) is some short explanatory material culled from the publications of my made up religion.. what is frigthening in how easy it is to gin up some words about any given subject and make it say anything i want it to.

Kingdom Halls, Assemblies, District Conventions - NO POWER POINT
by Nephilim ini'm a good public speaker - when i have my power point.
this is because i am a very visual person.
when i had my notes everything seemed to get blurry.. it bothers me that there is this unwritten law that you are not allowed to give visual presentations in the kingdom hall... even assemblies equipped with multiple projectors (to view baptism) do not use power point or any type of visual stimulus.. hell even when they have 10,000 plus people they are still working a full day with just a man on stage talking.

Hopefully the Photoshop comment was humor?
There were the old dioramas, and even in the 60's there was still the occasional slideshow (my dad travelled to a few congos giving a talk with a projector).
But PowerPoint? OMG, please no - some things should never be put into just anyone's hands...imagine the number of fonts, colors, sound effects, animations...I'm getting seasick just thinking about it!

Is Richard Dawkins an ostentatious acrimonious supercilious pusillanimous calumnious censorious vituperative querulous embittered obsessive and bombastic bully?
by slimboyfat inrichard dawkins closes down his free-thinking/free-thought site (www.richarddawkins.net) for 30 days to reconfigure it 'because too many morons were contributing drivel' (he doesn't put it quite like that!
) he is then surprised because those self-same contributors call him everything under the sun (i won't repeat the names flung at him on our ultra -refined boards).
he now wants the site more or less 'peer-reviewed' (by analogy with papers to learned/scientific journals having to be vetted by vips).

Dawkins is no worse than most televangelists. He fills a need.

DESTROYING the Individual: the goal of Watchtower Authority
by Terry inthe governing body wants to disable individuality.
individuality is evidenced by self-expression.
no self...no expression of self.. personal desire leads to expression of personal desire.

The WTS explicitly preaches that individual character is unimportant; just the follow rules.
There is no room for individuality.
Except for the color of the tie you wear.

Leolaia has written extensively on the origins of the Genesis mythforms, tracing their origins to earlier writings. It's hard to credit Genesis as being an original work inspired by God when it contains recurring themes of earlier "pagan" belief.

The Confession of Whathehadas
by whathehadas inas i sit here today wondering where my life shall end up, i'm letting some of my transgressions be made known.
i never been the most outspoken person, more often than not i have been timid and shy.
i have always felt uncomfortable when in large settings of people, especially large congregation gatherings and conventions.

From what little bit I know from your post, I have to ask why you even care what they think - why you feel you even have to send in a letter? DAing yourself can be a powerful ritual, but isn't going to change your mom's attitude (it will just get worse).
Indeed, if you don't want to talk to an organization or a girl or anyone else, you don't have to respond to them. Really.
If you're still at home, then yeah, you kinda have to engage with mom or whoever else is physically there. But as an adult, maybe it's time to get out on your own so you can live your own life. That may be the only way to not be harrased by the constant "you've fallen away" stuff. Which can only get worse if you DA - so be prepared.
Then maybe you can decide what you really want, rather than being in reaction to what everyone seems to be telling you you should want.
On the other hand, you might have a Serious Talk with mom that you are an adult, and are still the same person you've always been, and as you grow up you may make mistakes - and all of that still takes place between a mother and son who love each other.
My advice: don't force anything. Let it fall into place naturally. Don't be run by fear, but don't feel you have to do "bad" things just because you can (or just because you can't).
At least you have this going for you: you've seen the WTS isn't The Truth.
