In my opinion true love is when you can talk to someone that you are attracted to and after the conversation you think that 30 minutes have passed, but then you look at your watch and realize that 3 hours have passed.

each jw culture had its variations, can you remember everything that was looked upon as being or representing, non wholesome activity?.

Here in Texas brothers would often give talks wearing cowboy boots and it was fine. However, in Mexico I learned that it was considered to be wrong. I didn't know that God has one set of standards for one country and another for another country.

Wow! It is great to see everybody's stories. I remember something that Wickid said about not saying "Bless You" after you sneezed. I never understood why that was condemned. Even to this day I sometimes don't say "Bless You" after someone sneezes.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you...
by gilwarrior in...or someone else at a meeting or an assembly?.
for me it was when a brother while at the podium mentioned a party were there were no elders present and proceded to castigate the person who organized the party.
however, the person who organized the party was there and as the brother was going on that person got up and yelled at the brother telling him that he had no right to do that and then he stormed out of the kingdom hall.

This brother later left the organization. It was great to see someone stand up to an elder like that! Oh, and it was funny too.
I also remember someone telling about a woman who was getting baptized. When she came up after being submerged she sad, "Damn, this water is cold!" The brothers were surprised to say the least.

There are two things.
In the early and mid 80s there were Witnesses saying that the cartoon characters The Smurfs were not acceptable for Witnesses. I had two Smurf cartoon books and my mother made me throw them away.
I also remember a sister telling me, in all seriousness, about a woman who was attacks by Smurf dolls!!!! (Yeah right!) I was told that a Witness sister was in her home singing Kingdom Hymns when she saw these two Smurfs dolls that she had gotten for her daughter come out of her daughter's closet and they began hitting her. They then laughed and went back in the closet. At the time it scared me to death, but now I can't believe how grown people can believe in such stupidity.
The other silly story happened about three years ago when I was living in Mexico for awhile. I was talking to a brother in Spanish when he told me than I shouldn't use a certain word that I was repeating. The word was "ojala" which in Spanish means "I hope so." He proceded to tell me this long story that the Moors, who were Moslims for North Africa, had occupied Spain for nearly 800 years. The Moors spoke Arabic so several Spanish words that are spoken today are Arabic in origin. The Spanish word "ojala" came from the Arabic phrase "Oh Allah." Allah is, of course, what Moslims call God. He told that Allah was a false god so Witnesses should not say the word "ojala." Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!

Hello this is gilwarrior. I was a Jehovah's Witness for over 20 years. I got out about six months ago and I am having the best time of my life. I got into "the truth" when I was 8 years old. My childhood was a rather bleak one. I didn't participate in any afterschool activities and I felt bad trying to make friend who were not Witnesses. I never got baptized (thank God). Over the years a started hating going to the meetings more and more. I hated the hypocracy. I saw so much backstabbing and gossip. I kept going anyway, because I wanted to be a good witness. In March I left during the middle of a meeting and I vowed never to go back. Leaving the organization wasn't hard. My father has been inactive for many years and it didn't bother him. My sister and mother have excepted my leaving and then don't bother me about it. I never had any friends in the organization so that didn't bother me. I then left home and moved in with a friend of mine (not a Witness). I have gone to a therapist to be more social. I also am taking dance lessons and I started working out. I took a class in Portuguese and met a wonderful woman. She is religious and reads the bible, but doesn't believe in organized religion. I then found these web sites and discovered what the organization does not want anyone to know. It just reafirms what I have suspected all along. JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES ARE NOT GOD'S ORGANIZATION. Life is so much better for me now. I'm happier than I have ever been.
