I didn't have a chance to be fooled into joining the JW cult. I was born into it. However thank goodness my mother is as smart as she is, and not afraid to take a stand. We (my mother, brother and myself) are nolonger in the cult. My dad... well he is still a JW, split with my mom and won't have anything to do with us kids. I love how this religion of "truth" and "love" tells it's members, the religion comes before family.

Hi all....wow
by -Tank inhello folks.
i posted one topic in the "relationships" section of this board, but just wanted to say a few words, and introduce myself, i am tank.
i was just curious, this is a jw board, i was expecting to find 80% of the members, or posts, to be of diehard, hardcore jw's, trying to preach there beliefs or there views, but yet, almost every thread i read has to do with someone leaving, already left, or a story of when they left, nonetheless, all the stories lead away from the jw religion.

Cruel Joke by Circuit Overseer
by diamondblue1974 ini was reading the thread about the prospect of the wts releasing some new light shite about a prophecy to fulfil the fact that they are not growing and it brought back a really horrid memory, unintentional i know but horrid nonetheless.. the co visited the congregation were i was from and after the obligatory song and prayer, it was announced that the co needed to speak to us urgently on a local needs issue.
he came onto the platform his look was sombre and melancholy (nothing new there then).
he said he had an announcement from the governing body and that their had been a law passed that day which banned jw's in the uk that the usa and other world governments had notified the wts that they were to follow suit shortly.

I remember when I was about 13 years old a CO did something very simular. I was sick to my stomach... at 13. I almost started crying, because being 13 and all I was fully sure of what it ment, but I figured we were going to jail or something horrible. I was so upset about his stupid "joke".

What about your JW past are you thankful for?
by nvrgnbk inin the interest of self-healing and finding the peace that comes from being grateful, can you think of anything at all that was positive about having been one of jehovah's witnesses?.
not to be misunderstood with missing something about it, is there something about the experience that has enriched you?.
to answer the question myself, being forced to face the fallacies of the teachings of jwism, i was also prompted to look past those teachings and reevaluate everything i believed in.. that experience was frightening and unsettling, but i'm thankful for it.. i now have a greater appreciation for life in all its wonder than i did when i took it for granted as one of jehovah's witnesses.. i'm more determined now to find meaning in this life, after having lived for so long for a future that was never to arrive..

I am thankful for talks. I became a great public speaker because of them! I am also thankful for the basic everyday values that I was taught. However I would probably been taught thoughs regardless of the religion.

Alcohol and JW's
by sweet pea init seems like alcohol is a very grey area when it comes to jw's.
when i was a jw i knew many witnesses, particularly brothers, who seriously liked their drink and it appeared that when it came to elders and ministerial servants, the organisation seemed to turn a blind eye to alcohol abuse if those brothers were being faithful and especially if they were looked up to and liked in the congregation.
it reminds me of the mormons and the fact that utah is the prozac capital of the world - when something is not perceived as quite as bad a sin as another (even though all sins are equally bad in the bible/book or mormon), it becomes the one form of escape for people who have nowhere else to turn.

My real dad is an alcoholic and he is a JW. My aunt (my dads sister) is one as well. My moms sister is an alcoholic too. And they are all JW's. It is amazing how hypocritical, and depressed they all seem to be.

Perhaps you people don't realize that maybe after 2 years of being shunned and critizied that perhaps, just perhaps, there always was a backbone there and maybe there has been a thought in the back of this persons mind to do something. Consider that it's possible that inactive just needed to hear some encouragement from people they don't know, because the only people they currently know are the JW's snubbing them. And some of you people replying sound like the critical, ridiculous JW's inactive is dealing with.

Inactive,
What you have written here makes me very sad, angry and so very thankful I am no-longer associated with that religion. You and your husband have done nothing wrong. You sound like great, caring people. What baffles me is how they have treated you, shunned you and basically called you guys theives and you still believe in the religion. To me these people don't sound like faithful servents of any sort. If these are the types of people representing this religion, it makes me question how they can say they are the truth. They teach so much about being kind and forgiving and yet they have kicked you folks to the dirt and discarded you, when you have no reason to be ashamed, and have done nothing wrong. Your daughter has no reason to be ashamed, for she has done nothing wrong. She has chosen to live her life the way she wants, as we all do.
My adivce to you is to get out. If I were you, I would be questioning what sort of orgainzation I was in. You can lead a happy, faithful life without the religion (that goes for all religions) and certainly without being shunned and critizied! Whatever you do, don't stop talking to your daughter. I think that is probably the biggest mistake anyone can do. My dad has done that with my brother and myself and I know he will regret it one day. We have done nothing wrong, nor has your daughter.
So keep the faith, keep being a good person, I am sure whatever higher power is up there, they won't be upset with you.

I have always made my own money and have lived pretty well. I think my pride would be hurt if I let a man be my sugar daddy. I can support myself and have been doing so.

As long as they are taller then, I am happy. I like dark hair, not to picky about eyes. Not super hairy, built but not to much... you know, I like when guys can put their arms by their sides and not walk like apes. And if they can make me laugh, all the better.
