years ago when i was a "study" i worked in care with a lot of jws and the housekeeper there who was not a jw used to say to the jws that she actually thought the salvation were the "right " religion if any of them were ! she used to make me chuckle as she was always having a dig at them and asking who had been dipped in the duck pond ! DO YOU BELIEVE JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES "SHUNNING" OF MINORS IS CHILD ABUSE?
by Balaamsass ini have been reading countless heartbreaking accounts on this site of children of jehovah's witnesses being "disfellowshipped" and shunned by entire families, their congregations, basicly everyone they have ever known for simply questioning their parent's religion!!.
some have been tossed out of family homes to live in cars!!!
this is not christian.

i work with vunerable adults and on a course we were taught that there are many types of abuse , sexual , physical , financial and emotional and neglect and ignoring people are all abuse ! so the same would stand for children .

oh yes it reminded me that i would much rather be a mentally diseased apostate than downright nasty and mean about a genuine nice person simply because shes not a beauty on the outside ! shame on them ! christians my arse !

when you were a jw did you believe in cavemen ?
by looloo ini was wandering round the natural history museum in london last week and saw the early man skeltons and learned about how they lived and what they ate etc and thought about the adam and eve who i was taught about at the kingdom hall that seemed to just ignore the fact that people lived many thousands of years ago and not just 6000 .
as a jehovahs witness how did you feel about early man skeltons being found and the dinosaurs etc and how did you manage to explain it in your own mind never mind to anyone else ?
i was told by an elder that if your given a plate of food and dont like something on the plate do you just leave it all ?

New Mentality
by EmptyInside inno,i am not talking about being "mentally diseased",lol.
it's just wonderful to allow myself to have my own thoughts and opinions.. i'm still around family and some acquaintances who are witnesses.
and i cringe every time i hear a phrase or belief ,that now i realize is totally wacky.. for example: relatives talking about a newly reinstated man's unbelieving wife.

my dad recently sent a list of 1950s good wife quotes for a joke (hes not a jw ) things like "when your husband returns after a hard days work , dont be annoying him with your feeble mumblings about your day but make sure you look presentable and have his meal on the table "! my ex jw hubby asked if he had got the info from a watchtower !

A question for current/former elders
by Mickey mouse inwhen you had to deal judicially with cases of apostasy, did it ever pique yout curiousity?
did anyone ever tell you about something they had learned that shocked you and made you investigate for yourself?.

I've lurked a long time: JW's produce some of the most paranoid humans
by Unlearn ini'll keep this brief for now.. long time lurker (4 years or so).. born-in, elder, used on district level (last talk i gave before i left was the baptisimal talk), and lots of hard time put in...before i finally made the move to split.
it's a long stoy, much like many of yours...but with it's own little interesting twists.
more details in the future, perhaps.. as i said, ive lurked here for a while.. its funny: for a long time i'd only come on late at night.
