Have you met people in the "world" who are more commited to their christian believes than JWs?
by nevaagain ini met a coworker at my work who was even more commited to his religion then almost anybody i had seen in the jw mids yet.
whenever we went for lunch, he would do a little prayer first, he didnt care if anybody would take notice of him.
he does not curse, never!

Beards are evil, but do you know why?
by free2beme inas a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.
when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.
" why was this a form of rebellion?

Free2bMe you mention Bob Marley. Bob marley's dreadlocks were not an act of rebellion but of consecration as a Nazarite according to Numbers Chapter 6. -

I grew a beard in high school when it was totally out of style. I am glad the 20th century is over and I hope the 21st century will be a bearded one.
Earn a living for the whole family, fight for your country, but don't act or look patriarchal, don't point out discrimination against men because women have been oppressed for centuries, don't be a homophobe, be a boy toy for older women, the list goes on...
The beard has a ton of symbolism for me and I wouldn't cut it for the world.
It would be nice to see the day when a man IS REQUIRED to grow a beard to get a job, just so the baby faces will get a taste of their own medicine.
If your dad doesn't have a beard you've got two moms.

8 million - The Population of Honduras
by bemused ini sometimes look at the magazines on jw.org to see what the wt are saying now.
the latest watchtower is a good old fire and brimstone, armageddon is coming any moment now issue, but it was a short article in the april 2015 awake that caught my eye.
it features the country of honduras and is quite an informative little read (though failing to mention the very high crime rate in that country).

There are smaller religions than jws with much larger cultural influence.
Without Jews there would be no Hollywood, and without Rastafarians there would be no Reggae music, without Zoroastrians there would be no Bollywood, but if the Jehovah's Witnesses disappeared I doubt anyone would notice.

Ex-JW Guilty of Plotting Terrorism
by cofty inaccording to radio news earlier today he was raised as a jw but was told to leave home when he was disfellowshipped and turned to the mosque for support.. a teenager who was on his way to behead a british soldier with a 12in knife when he was arrested, has been found guilty of preparing a terrorist act.. brusthom ziamani, 19, was also carrying a hammer and an "islamic flag" when he was arrested in london in august 2014......

Moderate Muslims are more interested in making money, paying for their children's college, and arranging their children's marriages, while the Radicals are busy spreading their religion. The moderates need to be out there at the hippie festivals spreading moderate sufism or something besides being petty bourgeois. By the same token I blame the mainstream churches for the rise of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Time to criticize another religion: Islam
by SonoftheTrinity inplease understand i have nothing against islam.
i have something against alpha muslim men.. i was walking my cute little chihuahua mix in the park the other day when darts off sniffing since i am using a retractable extension leash and i am not minding the fact that he comes up on a muslim family and gets within a foot of them.
the paterfamilias gives me a dirty look and then says something to his wife and i can make out the word "saif" which is arabic for "sword.

James Mixon, you only had to knock on a few doors. Is that all the Watchtower took from you? -

Would I have bothered to learn Arabic or study Islam if I were an Islamophobe vidiot? Familiarity breeds contempt I guess. My explanations of how Islam was historically interpreted to be anti-canine vindicate me. -

I know their religion because of the clothes they were wearing and the dialect of Arabic that they spoke.
