Good point. I have thought of that too. It's funny that there were two deaths mentioned in the Bible on birthdays, but there are three specifically mentioned to have died on the day of Jesus' death. If you condemn birthdays, you should condemn the memorial even more.

thought of birthday rebutal
by atpeace ingrowing up of course as a jw child - birthdays couldn't be celebrated because the only instance of a birthday was when john the baptizer had his head cut off.
sooo... seams like "the memorial" shouldn't be celebrated because jesus was murdered.
just a thought.

I have a friend who recently found a parakeet with clipped wings in an ice storm. He brought him inside and kept him warm. Now he is doing very well in a house with five cats. I thought I would share in case someone wanted to hear a story where the bird survives.

Mr. Flipper Talks with Bethel Legal Service Desk Rep About JW Child Abuse
by flipper inwell - i had been wanting to do this for a long time , to question a legal department representative at bethel about the child abuse settlements and jw child abuse, since last year when the news came out about it.
especially since my dad , an elder for years was never aware of it and has on his own taken steps to see that families with children are informed if a former pedophile is in their congregation.
i was curious as to what the current views and policies in place are .

Good job. Mind control is hard to break, but I think it is good for them to have to confront these abuses of power. You never know when it might have an effect. I also like the idea of a letter campaign. I think it is fine for it to have a small beginning. I'll probably send out some letters in a month or two. Even if only a few people are interested in doing something like this, we can discuss and coordinate our efforts and it might eventually grow into something substantial.

Note that my site is for geeks, atheists, and ex-Witnesses. Some people get scared about the atheist part for some reason.
Looks like a cool site. I'll be checking it out and link to it from some of my blogs. I'm not scared about the atheist part.

End Tax Exemptions Now
by metatron inmany states are suffering revenue shortfalls and eager to find new sources of funding.
so, now may be the time to write or email your.
state officials to end tax exemptions as an unfair burden on taxpayers.
-

I'm not sure what I think about ending tax exemptions for non profits in general. However, if a cult claims to be a legitimate religion, but persecutes people and damages society, than I think their tax exempt status should be removed. There is currently a petition for ending Scientology's tax exempt status. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/stopscientology
I hope it succeeds and I hope it will result in closer scrutiny of the Watchtower Society's finances.

Watchtower Question from readers= Slams hunting??? Why???
by Witness 007 ineven though the bible does not condemn hunting watch them push their personal opinion and trun it into watchtower law.. watchtower dec 1 2007 p.31 "how should christians view hunting?
} "the bible does not condemn hunting or fishing.." {great leave it there..no need to push personal thoughts on brothers, right?
} ".....the apostles who were fisherman were likely gratified by a good catch.

Yet, there is no indication that they bragged about their prowess at fishing or hunting or that they went fishing or hunting to compete with others, to prove their manhood, or to have the thrill of the chase, the fight, or the kill.
You have to wonder if they even read the Bible. What about John 21:1-12? That's one of the best known and most exciting fishing stories (tall tales?) in history. But I'm sure the apostles only felt a quiet, noncompetative satisfaction about the catch and only repeated the story to praise Jesus' miraculous abilities.
