Good job, it sounds like they were fairly open minded. I hate to see people like that enslaved by the WTS. I wish I had run into someone like you when I was a JW.

Just talked to Witnesses at my door for Hour about Watchtower Child Abuse
by flipper init happened again like in july when i talked to an elder and his wife about child abuse, but this time i got a hold of rank and file members who fortunately i was able to play like a fiddle as they had no idea what they were up against here.
so brother middle age ex-hippie convert ( as he told me later ) and sister middle age hair in a bun offered me the awake on death or our view of death.
i graciously accepted gaining their trust saying yes, i had close loved ones who had died over the years but didn't know if i believed in a resurrection or hereafter.

WT Comments Goes to YouTube?
by V ini am considering producing a video version of wt comments.
this would highlight hot topics in each article in a attractive media-rich presentation.
the videos would be built in flash using video clips, still images and voice-over audio.

Is life a fundamental law - or does the universe need observers
by Qcmbr inat the current age of the universe with the laws of physics as currently manifest is life a fundamental organisational aspect of physics and maths?
if we look at crystals, snow flakes, chemical reactions they are forced to form / organise a certain way when the conditions are within certain parameters.
is life also like this?

I've been thinking about some of these questions recently, but I'm afraid I'll have to do some more research before I feel prepared to comment on them

The question is: Can we trust these figures? There are so many lies coming out of Brooklyn that I don't see any reason why I should trust them. On the other hand, I don't have any evidence that these figures are false. I'm not talking about publishers or elders being dishonest. I'm referring to the compiling of the stats at headquarters. I have heard of ways to analyse numerical data to give an indication if it's been doctored or not. Does anybody know how to do this?

I think they may be economising because of fear of future lawsuits or giving the impression of financial troubles to stimulate contributions.

How many five year olds could you take in a fight?
by erandir incheck out this website...it turns out i can take on 27. sounds like some bad b movie.. http://www.howmanyfiveyearoldscouldyoutakeinafight.com/.

It says I could take on 34. I think in real life the number would be almost unlimited. It doesn't matter how many there are. Only a few could attack you at once because of space limitations. They also have short attention spans and would be easily intimidated by all the crying of the first victims. If they were six or seven year olds I think the strategic situation could be very different.

I have tons of written work on the net and would love to group it all together in one place, along with family photos, etc.
I really like Blogger https://www.blogger.com/start?utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-google&utm_medium=ha&utm_term=blogger&gclid=CPr01fnaqpACFQdEFQod8iT67A
It's not the best solution for everyone, but it has a lot of easy to use features and it usually only takes a few minutes to set up a blog. I first started a blog as a way to organise my writings as I was learning how to design a website. I eventually gave up on the traditional website idea because I concluded that I was probably getting much more traffic from a social blog than I could get from a traditional website. Even if you have a website, a blog makes a nice addition, like on the site featured in this thread. If any one has any any questions, please PM me. (Pardon my enthusiasm, I just think think blogs are a great and underused resource.)

Great post! It might be best to send in a DA letter soon, but the brilliant way you handled it might give you some other options.
I cannot and will not belong to an organization who harbors pediphiles
This sounds like a clear statement of disassociation to me. If they try to disfellowship you, you can claim harassment since you already disassociated yourself. If they try to tell you that you have disassociated yourself, you can say that your statement was conditional on the assertion that they harbor pedophiles. You can ask them in writing if they are admitting to this.
If they can't clearly resolve your case they have reason to fear legal consequences if they try to impose ritualised shunning on you. It may not be worth pursuing this, but you put them in an awkward situation. You can also report the CO for apostasy. You have witnesses that he gave you a Christmas greeting. The WTS has admitted to the pedophile settlements on their website for the media. Since he denied this, it is apostasy by JW standards. He also denied that the brochure campaign was canceled. If it really was, this is another act of apostasy.
I look forward to hearing what happens next.

How to convince a JW that they have the truth.
by DT init may be easier to see how to reason with a jw when you consider how the governing body convinces them that they have the truth or how they convince themselves of it when they are confronted by troubling information.
it seems that all they need is a plausible way to explain away inconvenient facts.
if they hear about a case where pedophilia was covered up, it is usually sufficient to assume that it was an isolated case.

It may be easier to see how to reason with a JW when you consider how the governing body convinces them that they have the truth or how they convince themselves of it when they are confronted by troubling information. It seems that all they need is a plausible way to explain away inconvenient facts. If they hear about a case where pedophilia was covered up, it is usually sufficient to assume that it was an isolated case. It is unlikely that they will demand proof that it was an isolated case. It is even likely that they will ignore proof that it is a widespread problem if they have a plausible way (in their mind) to explain it.
The society also loves to quote and misquote authorities. A JW isn't going to expect a statement like four out of five scientists agree that the Awake magazine is scientifically accurate. It will probably be sufficient for just one scientist to make that kind of statement (or appear to make that statement). They will likely be content that a scientist could come to this conclusion, even if it is a rare event. I know that I used to think that way. If something troubled me, I just looked for a convenient explanation. If I saw someone doing something wrong, I assumed that he had good motives. (This can be a good thing, but it can also encourage abuses.) Do you have any comments on situations where this happens or ways to overcome that kind of thinking when talking to JW's. I've never had a chance to use it, but I would like to ask a JW what kind of evidence would hypothetically prove to them that the JW's are wrong. If they come up with something, there's a good chance that this evidence already exists. If they say nothing could prove that there religion is false, then I would suggest that they can't really have confidence in something that can't be falsified.

A JW Nuclear Scientist
by inkling ini ran across this article of the official jw website today.i vaguely remember reading it when it was first printed inthe wt.
the nuclear physicist (with a doctorate from a unnamed school)telling his story unabashedly defends the witness world view and stand on scientific fact and recorded history.http://www.watchtower.org/e/20040122a/article_01.htmit was articles like these that successfully kept my doubtssubmerged for many years.
here are some of the more interesting quotes:when my wife informed me of this arrangement, i immediately opposed her.

So they get a nuclear physicist to talk about Bible chronology and prophecies. I would be more impressed if he was a historian and could somehow confirm that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 BC. I think that since JW's are often poorly educated they are sometimes unduly impressed by professionals. The fact is you don't have to be super intelligent to be a scientist and many of them have rather mundane and mind numbing jobs.
