  Stevie Nicks -- witch?

  do the jw's still consider stevie nicks from fleetwood mac to be a pagan witch-type?

  i picked out the song "landslide" for my mother's funeral about a month ago, which most of my extended family, jw's one and all, attended.

  it didn't even cross my mind when i selected the song, my mom just had always liked it.

  I've been a longtime Stevie Nicks fan and this is a persistent,but untrue, rumor that she has denied a number of times; but eventually got tired of doing so.Part of the reason is that she has always liked the enchanted, mystical/gothic,gypsy,flowing type oufits as well as the color black.Although I've seen here wear white many times too..She also wrote a song called "Rhiannon", a name she liked from a book she read on a flight,and later found out the name was taken from Celtic mythology and that Rhiannon is the Welsh goddess of birds, steeds and the moon, as well as other things.What's interesting about the story is that Rhiannon was accused of something she didn't do; a crime she didn't commit.Incidentally, one time out in service I mentioned to a "sister" who was known to be "not so innocent",that I liked Stevie Nicks, and her response was: "Isn't she a witch ! " I said: "No, that's not true.I don't care anyway." So many JW's, and other off-kilter religionists, do still consider her a witch.

  Phone Conversation With My Dad (Elder)...

  i got so pissed off yesterday after this phone conversation...he's such a sweet man, but very much under the control of the watchtower.

  we both agreed that we missed each other and would love nothing more than to be able to do some stuff together and have a relationship, but he said, "that's all up to you.

  well if that's the case, let's plan a trip or something in the next couple of weeks.

  i look back and think of how mindless, boring and dumb it all was.

  .

  i think of having to sit at mind numbing meetings, bored to tears, making believe i was enjoying the fine spiritual banquet.. i think of how we used to drive around in "service" looking for nothing to do----just so that we could put our time in---hoping that no one was home.. everyone had to conform to direction and whims of elders or the society.. i am soooooooooo glad i'm out!.

  if you dont like the organization, why are you a pioneer? Or did you get these comments secondhand? If you have problems being a pioneer, you certainly shouldnt be so two faced so as to post in derision on an internet board of ex-jws -- thats cowardly.

  So, most, or many times, what's posted here is just "hate laden drivel", not facts ? Really ? Do I really need to continue with the quotes ? I don't think so, nor do I have a desire to do so. As for some other points.The idea that the Org has "cleared up" some Biblical teachings makes them no more God's sole channel on earth than any other religion that has "cleared up" some misunderstandings.There are many talented Theologians who have written detailed books clearing up misunderstandings.Even many televangelists are very well versed and persuasive, very knowledgeable.But as you said, that may not mean much, so why get worked up when they are rightly criticized for the extreme control and damage they continue to do to people's lives ? If they were truly humble and Christ-like they wouldn't seek to get involved in matters which are none of their business, especially matters of life and death.They truly try to be the masters of others faith which is in direct contrast to do the Bible's counsel. Once again, regarding the college issue, some elders may have discussed it, but the "ban" comes from the top and you don't know what actions are yet to be taken against those elders that openly discussed it.With what spirit did they discuss it ? Trust me, I know for a fact, that things are not always as they appear and behind the closed doors of the elders meeting counsel may be given to the elders which is unknown to the "friends".If you happened to come from a very liberal congregation, be glad.My own cong. was considered rather liberal, but that's also why the CO keeps a close eye on matters and things can change quickly.I speak out of experience , so just because things seem fine on the surface doesn't mean they really are that way.I'm glad a few good men try to stand up for what is right but the Society has intentionally put increased pressure on them and many are stepping down.True company men are most valuable to them. I also am not suggesting that one ignore whatever positive experiences they may have had as a Witness.But it must be acknowledged that such experiences can, and are, experienced by many other relgions... or those with no religion, and many other groups.Unbalanced sentimentality creates unreasonableness.Every tree will be recognized by its fruit, will it not ? The rotten fruit of "damaged" lives is scattered throughout the earth and is directly related to their activity, teachings and control.Get out from among them is wise counsel.

  so im enjoying them a lttle too much and so i looked at the ingredients.....and its says shellac...i thought theyre using the same stuff ppl use to varnish their wood cabinets with?

  Even if you sincerely believe such nonsense Solace, is that really how you attract others to the "truth", by intentionally offending and condemning them ? Is that how Jesus and Paul did it ? Did Jesus not associate with ones condemned by his own religious leaders ? Was he not viewed as an apostate because he didn't agree with their teachings ?   Look, those are seriously my experiences. Must I preface everything with some kind of disclaimer that shows im not a witness, dont want to be, and that witnesses ruined something very special in my life for me? If i wanted to out the witnesses, i would - i have alot of disdain there. But im not going to let that blind the fact of the positive things i experienced whilst in the borg.

  Maybe it's because of statements like this..

  i think the witnesses have a firm grip of the truth - but they are not there yet.

  Or maybe in spite of the fact that your chosen name is "Solace" your words are often angry and lash out at everyone who doesn't agree with you.At times,you seem to try to incite others to "attack" you.You call the posts on this website "drivel" but get upset when someone calls you on it ? It doesn't make much sense.

  As for college being "banned" ...in many ways it is.Discussion of it in a favorable light is certainly banned as doing so will result in removal of privileges.Apparently it's not banned for someone who claims to be putting "spiritual interests first"(such as aux. pioneering but still going to colege) but for it is for your average publisher.How crazy is that ? Some elders might look the other way, some won't.During my time as an elder I saw many double standards and cover ups.Where's the consistency ? They're no different than "Christendom" which they constantly bash.Should they not be judged by their own standards and manner of operation ? When one claims to be "God's sole channel on earth" and that no one other than 'Jehovah's Witnesses has any solid basis to live through Armageddon', they darn well better prepare themselves for critical observation.

  Look, while I appreciate accuracy in statements, this CULT does not deserve to be defended and splitting hairs on certain issues comes across that way.While we don't want to become so unbalanced that we make statements about JW's or the WT that have no truth in them, we also need to show the same attitude when reflecting on those here; many of whom continue to suffer from the heartless actions of a soulless organization.When one defends an abuser, what do you think the reaction will be by the abused and observers ? How one says things make a big difference and affects how seriously they will be taken.

  has anyone got advice on what to do when your car headliner starts to lose its adhesive and then begins sagging?

  my car is eleven years old and it sags on either side and is now only adering down the middle.

  i dont have money to repair it like it should be.

  People are people, and quite frankly, most of them are idiots.Some of them even happen to be elders.They knock on doors to bring more people in and be part of the "happiest people on earth" who reside in a "spiritual paradise" and then they say all kinds of hurtful crap to chase them off.Some of these guys seriously need to be bitch slapped.
