It depends how you look at it. I've noticed that when I was a witness, I was taught a very negative perception on life, so you could notice all the bad things that mean the world is "coming to an end", or you could look at the glass half full.

Are we in some sort of "LAST DAYS"?
by Open mind ini'm not talking in the biblical sense necessarily.
you can argue scriptural "last days" until you're blue in the face.
(jcanon & obves make that clear on at least a weekly basis.).

The longest prayer ever ...
by Vivamus inthe memory of this just popped back into my mind.. i was at a 3 day congress, and the ending prayer was said by this really old brother.
he was one of the survivors of wo ii concentration camps were he was put for being a jw.. anyway, the poor man started his prayer with thanking jah, and then he recalled every piece and play of the three day congress.
i bet the man had written his prayer on paper and rehersed it each day adding a new 15 minutes to it ... he even mentioned a part where a witness lady replayed an incident on the street - she gave witness to by-standers - and one of the people she talked to had a stuffed dog.

When I was about 6 or 7, I remember a brother doing a reaaaally long prayer. Not as long as that but I was only a fidgety little kid. I wonder how they remember them.

Because it's a bit meaningless isn't it? You know same old prayer over and over again doesn't really mean much.

to the JWD person who sends erynw hatemail
by eclipse inas much as i hate to make a new topic for a low-life like you - you need to read this.. there are people in this world who are born to hate and to suck the life from others.. those people are the blood-sucking parasites that thrive on hurting, and abusing others.. those people are rapists, pedophiles and sadistic sociopaths without any moral fiber or conscience.. you are among that classification of sub-human vermin devoid of empathy love or compassion.. you can quit telling eryn to die already.
you can quit telling her that she can shoot herself in the head just because you are a friendless person without anyone to love them.. you are pathetic.
people like you disgust me.

It's sad to know that some people thrive on the discomfort and anger of others. I generally think parasite is an understatement.

oh, i'm a pioneer and jehovah gave me $10 for gas
by monophonic ini'm drawing a huge blank..
there was a thread here a while back on the bogus experiences at the assemblies about how jehovah stepped in just when a pioneer has $0, and oh, boy, were we blessed.......yet whenver bad things happen, even when praying for help, like someone gets killed, the 'we put in 75 hours of service and jehovah fed us' theory turns idiotic..
anyone remember that thread...or wanna give me some word power over those pathetic experiences....just got one via email from a relative and really want to throw back a doozy to make him think..

I agree with you. I used to think that eveything bad that happened me was Satan up to his 'old tricks', and that every time something good happened to me it was Jehovah, which, I might add, doesn't make sense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I find alot of the time, the elders tend to say "Thank you God, for organising this meeting!" It just goes to show that they think humans can't accomplish anything without screwing up miserably. Can we not do something as simple as orgainsing a meeting without God helping us out?

Well, that's not entirely true. I used to be a witness and I could make jokes about witnesses. I persoanlly would be annoyed if someone came knocking on my door asking to me to take a magazine at teatime, but I used to believe I was preaching a good message.

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying, “Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed in an accident.”
“OH DEAR GOD NO ,” Bush exclaims. “That’s terrible!!”
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the president sits, head in hands. Finally, the President, devastated, looks up and asks, “How many is a Brazillion??!”

Hi, I'm PoppyR's son. I was brought up a Jehovah's witness and have only very recently lots most of my faith in it. For years I was in that religion and could never quite make sense of it. It took a couple of hours of talking to my mum for my mind to be completely changed.
At first, I was very upset and felt like I had lost a very close friend, but eventually I realised that 'the world' isn't such an awful place after all. Plus, being a witness takes away alot of oppurtunities from you. I have never been baptised; good thing too. Because the bible often refers to people with 'no natural affection.' But if a witness is disfellowshipped all their family and friends seem to turn against them just like that.
I have signed up to this forum, for alot of reasons but this is the main one. I want to have all of your opinions on religion. Because at the moment I'm totally unsure whether I should be saying a prayer or celebrating the fact that I don't have to anymore.
