ive been going thru a lot of the different posts on here and seeing that most here believe that higher education is very important.
i agree that it is important and i plan on going back to school in the fall but im just wondering who all here has a degree and in what?
just curious .

for you us citizens (and those whose nations have a similar patriotic oath), how do you feel about your children saying the pledge in school if it's customary?.
my daughter is in 3rd grade and part of her school's morning routine includes the pledge.
when we stopped attending meetings a year ago, my wife and i explained to her that we don't agree with the jw "idolatry" classification so, naturally, she started joining her class in the pledge.. fast forward to the present: my wife and i are both non-theists who want to raise ethical, caring, tolerant children, but also children who aren't afraid to stand apart, especially when that stand isn't popular.
just piping in to say that i learned from a
WONDERFUL history teacher back in the day
that the way US kids are taught history, and
it may well be true for other nations, is that
the first several years, usually up to 4th grade,
the cirriculum is skewed to inspire a sense of
love for country, moreso than patriotism
then the next phases allow the students to
acknowledge flaws and missteps and finally
to think critically about the unsavory aspects
of their nation's history and their responsibility
to make things work better...
thank you, mr. williams, wherever you might be
the pledge? if it said "i thoughtfully consider the actions of the government
that represents the aspirations of the nation that is symbolized by this flag,
and work to make said government and therefore the nation deserving of
allegiance".... i would say it
so did the 'da society' give these dub internet savvies permission to start a forum?
because last i checked, the ole boys in their oversized brooklyn bunker didn't want their members on the internet unless it was to view their own official websites.
i thought maybe it was an apostate forum until i read their long winded, typically condescending jdub style membership guidelines:.
"I like to ask evolutionist where the first two particles they think smashed into each other came from if no one created them!
well, d'uh.... the same place jehovah came from...
the admin/mods on that site OUGHT to be out
pioneering TM instead of preaching to the choir!
in fact all their membership ought to as well!!!
just this past week i went to see a jbub relative that was in the hospital.
there was an elder there from her hall.
he was probably there for support but also to make sure no blood was used.
DUBSNUB!!!!
that one is going to become pretty popular!!
sorry, btw, that in the midst of family crisis
these JW b00bs get to interject their cult
inspired brand of righteousness....
you would think she would learn.. but being the vindictive bitter woman she has alowed herself to become, i guess she can't.. last time she threatened me with less visitation and told me to get a lawyer, she lost big time and had to concede much compared to what she wanted to take away.. this time she 'dobs' me into the child support angency for being in arrears and not paying the correct amount.
both not true as i have signed delivery of all payments and i actually pay her a little more than i have to.
but the foot shooting is that by making a request to the csa to collect the money from now on, they have to review the case and based on the more time my daughter gets since april last year they say they will reduce the amount... on top of that i can have my sons case closed now as he is fulltime employed which would futher reduce the amount i pay.
sir
i salute you as a father extraordinaire
when the time comes, just walk away....
that dame isnt worth the ink on the paper
besides which, my hub always says
"kill them with kindness; it'll drive 'em crazy!"
keep loving those kids!
cheers
amy~

the kid is cute, it is amazing he can read so well
at his age, and i am sure his parents are proud
too bad about the rest of it... cult activity and all that
i have to say i found the remarks by the school
overseer just short of triggering, recalling the
time of mental captivity and the whole smarmy
atmosphere of a TMS, fake and contrived BS
<shudder>
it was a classic moment of jw-ery.

thanks for the "nod" scooby-doo....
i dont think it extraordinary for a parent to,
oh you know, support their kids in a really
REALLY difficult circumstance they did not
invite or create!!!! call me crazy but i think
that is what a parent is supposed to do.....
the more i consider this little non-event
the more i realize that i really dont know
what i could have or would have said to
this JW, except maybe talk about the
weather.....
i know for sure i would not have wanted
to hear ANYTHING about how close, really
REALLY close "the end" TM was, in light of
all the upheaval and catastrophe currently
crowding the stage....
i also know she would not want to be
updated on how often i write to my
elected officials about marriage
equality and other policies that i have
sincere opinions about.... or how close
i am getting to completing a degree...
i suppose the nod was as friendly as it needs to be....
(i am SO glad my son was there to witness it, tho...
bordering on priceless and good for a chuckle)
i read some postings here earlier where some were saying they had never heard of meetings staring at 7pm.
i may have misunderstood.. were/are there different start times elsewhere?
our times in uk were.
sunday was 9:15
tuesday... the twofer was 7:00 til it ended
thurs B/S at my house 7:00- 8:00
PLUS a 9 am service meetinghere at my houe
on Fridays AND Sats for the B/S group
my wife (never a jw) is ill and undergoing a series of treatments that will last for many months.
it's a physical, emotional, and financial drain on both of us.. my wife has run her own business for many years and has an extensive client list that includes some very well-to-do folks.
one of those clients called her one day and offered to pay all of her medical expenses.
my sincere good wishes for most favorable outcome
in the circumstances you and your wife are enduring...
it is heartening to hear you are being well supported
i have to say, at first blush reading the thread title
i was bemused as to what the heck was meant....
since it is a vastly inclusive assertion about people,
"worldly" or otherwise!!!
i had a drill instructor who said
"you have to respect the uniform
and the rank on it" when dealing
with people in the armed services....
meaning, and he DID elaborate>>>
@ssholes are everywhere, but in the military
you dont have the luxury of ignoring every
@sshole who outranks you, so respect the rank
if you cannot respect the person
that being said, oh yeah lots of worldly people suck
and some seem to treat it like an olympic event for
which they try to attain the gold medal!
but as a collective, i agree, non-JWs have proven
time and again to be the absolute salt of the earth
it was a classic moment of jw-ery.

(firstly, hello and welcome to JWN)
i think you are spot on with your assessment....
the KH i attended had JWs from at least half dozen
small surrounding communities, of which this town
is one, and this woman came to the B/S at our home
for over 10 years, my kids called her grandma "cxxxx"
so it isnt like there wasnt a viable relationship....
i think she might know it is crap but she is single
getting older by the day, and unlikely to leave
since the KH is her sole community support....
but i really think she knows....
