It's a funny thing about translation of a foreign language. You can interupt it a hundred different ways and the JWs had their own God inspired translation. OF course, interuptation of their God inspired translation continues on a daily basis. If they translated it and stuck to their beliefs that would be ONE thing, but, it is quite the other thing with them

Can raising a child JW contribute to later psychiatric disorders?
by journey-on ini read about the high incidents of mental illness and psychiatric disorders among jehovah's witnesses and it .
started me thinking about why this is and how so.
then i made this list and realized how much a child's psyche.

Humiliation - having to wear clothes that were out of style and not being allowed to participate in nearly every school activity
Fear of death - you touch on this - but, my story - raised in the 1975 bundoggel - I had evil thoughts, being a horny teenager and KNEW I was going to die in 1975 for those bad lusty thoughts so I decided at 16 - in 1973 tha tI would just do ahead and have fun since I was gonna die any way - I made a decision to let Jehovah take me in 1975 - to this day I have no fear of death.
LOL - I think I am fairly normal -
But, perhaps a I am I the last to know!!!! -

1975 Letdown increasingly becoming topic of conversations among witnesses
by Meeting Junkie No More ini have noticed that more and more, witnesses seem to be discussing the 1975 debacle amongst themselves, and agreeing that it is amazing that witnesses as a whole are all still here and the world is still here, and their kids are now in high school, or married, or whatever.
they also seem to be discussing the importance of retirement plans, in direct contradiction to what cos and dos are spouting at the annual conventions.... the last time this happened was at a recent funeral, where another long-time witness had passed on.
the interesting thing was that a younger group were discussing this, and some of them weren't even around in '75!.

Outlaw - EXACTLY!
I had a conversation with a lady a few years ago who is still a witness and was 3rd generation like me. She asked me why I left and I told her, for starters, 1975.
She laughed and shock her head and said, yeah, that was such a shame how so many people sold their homes, racked up debt thinking the end was coming. Funny how people got so over-zealous! The WTS never said it was going to happen in 1975. They were such fools.
I about fell over. This was the first time I had actually heard someone deny it so! (has happned a few times, since)
Anyway, the fact remains, those that talk that way will be DF soon so as to not spread their satanic views through out the rest of the congregation.
And not to worry, the Witlesses are going strong. There are just too many poor souls out there for them to scoop up. They are certainly growning by leaps and bounds in Mexico. I would like to see the numbers, but it seems to me that next to the Catholics, JWs are the second largest religion here. They prey on the hopeless and poverty ridden or the mentally ill to fill their ranks.
I see more Witlesses out on the streets here every Sunday than I EVER did in the USA. It's really kinda funny if it wasn't so sad - their ties and white shirts stick out like the freaks they are. You would think the society would allow a dress code for each region, but I guess not! One more way to shame the children of Witlesses.

Oh good! That makes me feel better. I would hate to see my poor mom have to live in paradise earth with the likes of Hitler - but personally, Jeffrey Dahmer and some of these others scare me to death!
I hope it all works out for the witlesses

Cognac,
We just had a thread recently about something you brought up. Wishing your non-believing friends and relatives would die so they could be on paradise earth with you.
Once your eyes are opened you will see how this "loving" gesture is so very sad. JWs are forced to ignor important people in their lives and not enjoy all the riches they can bring us.They destroy familes, they do not bring them together.
I truly do not think a loving God intended it to be that way.
just a simple look at something such as this, without getting too involved in all of the changing doctorines, new light and hypocritical polices, will go a long way in determining if you are on the right path right now.
I do think it is possible that your husband also has doubts. Perhaps he is too afraid of losing you and the family to express himself. Time will tell on this, but I sincerely wish all the best for the both of you. I am glad you have stuck around.

Hi Cognac - 3rd generation Witness here - many, many family members still in.
I can't look up your scripture cause I don't own a bible nor have the inclination to input it into google. All I can tell you is that I had no problem leaving the WTS when they promised me Armageddon was coming the year I turned 18 years old (1975) and it didn't. Now, they will deny that now, but on this site you will find plenty of proof that they DID, IN FACT, prepare all of us for the end.
Having been out many years, imagine my shock to find out that the Witnesses use to celebrate Christmas (found a picture of my mother holding my brother under a CHristmas tree and asked her about it - oh! She says, didn't you know that? They found NEW LIGHT in 1958? that we can no longer celebrate) Imagine my shock to find out that smoking, blood issues, organ transplants - all these things have changed in just the few short years I have been out.
I asked myself, SELF???? If in fact, the JWs are the ONLY religion that God speaks to, why on earth are they getting NEW LIGHT all the time? Why sisn't God make it clear in the beginning when he set this all up? Why have they thought the end would be here in 1914, 1925, 19??, 19??, 200? and now they decide that they better not name a date in the future? COME ON!!!! Let's all get real!
Anyway, that is a part of my story and I am so happy for you! Sounds like your husband is beside you and has had doubts for a while, too. You are in a great position. You will not need to go this alone like many of us have!
Welcome to the board, and now that your eyes have opened, you are going to be amazed at the things you see.

where to go from here?
by jacethespace insome of you on here know that i have been fading for sometime now and stopped going to meetings for quite a while but the past month or so i have returned.i am still just not sure whether at the end jws will be found to be gods people or not.. well today i attended the early sunday meeting eager to try and do what i still think could be right and despite the doubts i have about the watchtower.. now to be fair a number of people came and spoke to me said hello and stuff.the majority just didnt bother.but what really got me today was a number of people who i thought were my friends were just hateful.i even held the door open for one of them and they just were so hatefull and gave me funny looks as if i had the plague or something.i left feeling like this is no diffrent to any other religion.
some nice and other people not so nice.all i could think of on the way home was so much for jehovah never forgetting what you have done for him.im starting to wonder whether the bible is really gods word after all.. i just feel im at a fork in the road and dont know what to do for the best..

I do not believe this is a bad place you are in - it is a wonderful place, place where your eyes are opening, just like a newborn baby!
You are starting to question all that you have been told and blindly followed. You are becoming your own person. It is sometimes shocking when that lighbulb flashes on, but don't get depressed over it! Rejoice! For you are now finding the truth!!
Enjoy your journey of discovery. Embrace it and grow.

OK, thanks, you all were posting while I made my last post.
So, my mom is just living with her head in the sand trying to believe that my brother was not an apostate, just wandering off of the path. Little did she know, he was a full blown apostate, like me. I thought she knew. Maybe not, but I find it hard to believe she didn't. I think she is in denial.
And since Saddam was never a JW, that is why he will come back....oh, and Hitler, too! let's not forget Jeffery Dahmer. Got it, but my brother won't. OK< yes, I can see the fairness and love in JEhovah now. LOL
So, this makes a little more sense to me now, even though I think it is still fricking weird.
