Hi Awakened, I have been reading many things and the one thing that I still am just shocked and disgusted with is the deliberate lying. Its one thing to be wrong and think you are right, but the way that they lie is just stunning. I have not read that book, I plan to. But what made me disgusted was reading the following: http://www.catholic-forum.com/members/popestleo/Historical%20Idealism%20and%20Jehovahs%20Witnesses.pdf there are other sites with the same subject, but this .pdf really broke it down well. being misguided or naive is one thing, but this is sinister. i think that they are actually sinister.

Have you read "Signs of the last days?" by Carl O Jonsson?
by Awakened at Gilead inafter seeing h4o's thread today (about hassans book), i decided to open up this one.
i have only been out of the org since 3-29-08 so i have a lot of reading this past month and a half.... i'm halfway through reading the "signs of the last days" book.
in some ways it has impacted me more than some of the others i have read.. as i read cofc, for example, i could see that the inner workings of the gb showed that there were not spirit guided but very misguided.... as i read isofcf i could see logical biblical arguments that refuted jw syances on blood, holidays, jesus, etc.... i read the gentile times reconsidered, and was very impressed with the logic about 587 bce.

they cant change 1914, they will go to the grave with 1914. they can change what some of its meaning is, but cant change that 1914 is when Christ presence began, because then that would change Christ selecting them in 1919. You throw those dates out and you have a bunch of uninspired humans speaking in the name of God. not cool.

How the new "generation" study went down in the meeting today
by slimboyfat ini made a big effort to get to the watchtower study today.
i have not been to the meetings much for months, but i figured this was a pretty historic "study" and i wanted to see reactions and how it would go down locally.
well a few things struck me as a bit odd in the study itself, and in the audience response as well.

can anyone point me to any articles or sites that discusses how this "new light" is actually old light from 1927?

slowly but surely the wts is taking away any ways that people can express themselves. they did it with the talks on the school, they did it with the wt, and now they are doing it with the bookstudy.

The greatest enemy of a False Prophet
by Honesty intimes proves whether one who predicts, conjects or prophesies is a false prophet or not.. .
how many times does a false prophet have to be proved wrong by time to be a false prophet?.
you may say to yourself, how can we recognize a message the lord has not spoken?

the internet has only been popular for what, 12 years? thats the biggest threat to the WTS, and any other cult/high control group. people who would have NEVER left, are because of the truths on the internet.

by Lex Talionis ini am a jehovahs witness.

I also feel the religion is not what it once was. But I'll explain. I think for me it has to do with the congregation I was in for most of my life. Obedience to the GB was not really discussed and its not until the past 6 or 7 years that I have even noticed it. Personally I think the reason is because in the 70's you were more free to have your own thoughts, this changed I guess in 80 when they purged and kicked people like Ray Franz out. The beliefs Ray got destroyed for were his same beliefs years earlier, but it seems that it was ok if you kept it to yourself. That all changed in the early 80's. Well, I think that there were 2 kinds of people, hard liners, and liberals. And since the 80's the liberals have been leaving, and now you are in 2008 and the majority are hard liners, and the liberals are a dying breed. So while there has always been this idea of "obey the GB", it didnt come across as loud as it does not because you still had people that disagreed with the hard line. Anyway, i dont have a lot of time to type this, i should have maybe done it when I do have time, hopefully it makes sense. I will say however I understand why people didnt care for the "whine" comment. There are alot of people hurt by the WTS and expressing that is not whining. But we wont kill you for it. LOL, at least I wont.

So what caused you to have doubts in the first place?
by nicolaou ini had no doubts at all about the 'truth' untill a friend of mine in the cong' began falling away.
in trying to help him i had to ask questions and do research and that of course cracked the doors of my mind open for the first time in over thirty years.. years ago, when jwd allowed members to have signatures, i used the following quote from voltaire as mine.
i still love it.. doubt is uncomfortable, certainty is ridiculous..

i guess its when i started to notice over the past 5-7 years that "obedience to the faithful slave" has been featured at the conventions and assemblies. what really struck me was about a year or 2 ago when during the talk called something like "follow the slave wherever they go" the guy giving the talk said this "Why should we trust the faithful slave? because Jehovah and Jesus do." that really is probably what started it all. that comment was so anti Bible that it woke me up.
