Yes, when my wife and I were getting married, we decided not to have the wedding in the kingdom hall. In addition to that, she has a family member who is DF'd and we invited her to the wedding. So they actually changed the schedule to move the local needs up 3 weeks so they could warn everyone not to go to our wedding. So in response to that we canceled the wedding, uninvited everyone but our closest friends and relatives, and basicly told everyone to go fuck themselves hard. We had a beautiful ceramony outside on a perfect day and whoever mattered to us was there, and it was great. Best decision we made. It also helped me to get out of being an MS. I was deleted as an MS after not obeying the elders. One final note, it wasent that the DF family member was invited that was the issue, it was not having the wedding in the kingdom hall. When the elders met with me about the issue they told me they would look the other way when it came to DF relatives if I had the wedding in the kingdom hall, but if I didnt have it in the kingdom hall, they would delete me as a MS. I told them to delete me as I dont play politics and they should get a sub for the instruction talk since I am done as a MS effective immediatly. This was one of the key "bell ringing" moments that was the first domino in me waking up to the truth that I was in fact, in a cult.

Has a local needs talk been given about you?
by Jadeen inthis was briefly mentioned in one of miseryloveselders threads, but i had the honor of a local needs talk pointed at me.
shortly before i got married to my "worldly" husband there was a talk about "marrying only in the lord", "do not become unevenly yoked", blah blah blah.. i wasn't shocked that it was given, i was actually waiting to hear about it.
i was more surprised that they waited until about a month before our wedding day to give it.

Lurkers: What do you think of DJEggnog?

I think he is an indoctronated JW who comes on this forum to count time, and try to convince himself he has the truth. I also think he has doubts, and they scare him as he has dedicated his whole life to the watchtower. I think he lies to himself and others, is also arrogant and haughty. I have no respect for liars. But I will at least say he responds to posts. The level of JW apolgist in 2010 is so low, that to get one that at least will debate is something in itself.

this is awesome, if it makes it into the WT, it must be a huge problem. are they stupid for printing the experience of a person who read apostate sites and didnt have any problems with the elders or df'ing? if you are a young JW and you read that, would it then make you want to also research what the apostates have to say? haha

I just can't do anymore right now....
by GrandmaJones ini am constantly reading, studying, looking up more stuff on the internet, perusing old threads, keeping up with "new light" on jwn.
i am in the middle of "in search of christian freedom" (having just finished steve's cultmind control book) and i am finding it so argumentive doctrinally that my head is spinning.
i found myself this evening with my laptop next to my desktop (all the better to reference back and forth, m'dear) the wt library cd-rom open to "the modern history of jehovah's witnesses" in twenty four parts, with a plethera of "rainbow" books open for easy reference while i was listening to an old fred franz discourse at dodgers stadium!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I think Dan is going through a very hard time, and what he has posted which is judgemental is a way for him to cope. Its a turn off, yes, and saying "It's not enough to live a good life and be good to people" is very fucked up. However I think, hopefully after things calm down he'll chill out a bit.
I hate to see people become extreme one way or the other, whether its extreme christian, or extreme atheist, or any viewpoint that in essance makes you judge another person as stupid for beliving in God, or damned for not believing in God.
I say this after about 2 years of researching all this shit, and what it comes down to is this:
(I know this will rub some people the wrong way and Im sorry, I mean no disrespect, this is simply my opinion)
When we get down to the nitty gritty, and we are being totally, and I mean totally honest with ourselves, getting to the very core layer of ourselves, the reality is no one really knows what the fuck the "truth" is.
We each have our best guess, our strongest leaning, and we go with that. And hopefully we come out with a more balanced viewpoint than we did when we were JW's, whether we are christian, atheist, or whatever.
I like to think for every dan, there is a PSacramento and LeavingWT. Those are 2 people on 2 different sides of the debate/discussion, but they are almost always respectful and reasonable and dont come off judgmental.
I think dan will come around, so until then I'll just chalk it up to yet another person proclaiming me damned to hell for not believing exactly as they do.
While he is damning athiests, I think he would considered alot of christians damned too. Seems like only a small handful of people would measure up to his standards, er, oops, sorry I mean "God's" standards, since what he is saying isnt from men, its from God. hmmm I think I've heard that somewhere before. ;) -

Ding,
when I came into the religion in the mid 90's, that exactly is how it was explained to me. I had an issue with the pope, and asked about the difference and was told that I did not have to agree with everything that the faithful slave said, and if I disagreed I could keep it to myself. If at that time the faithful was printing the bold and chest thumping articles they are now, I would not have become a witness. I think the people who told me that stuff were just as deceived as I was. I think the mid 90s were a time when the GB didnt chest thump as much, but if you look at articles from the early to mid 80's, they said alot of the same things they do now. Although now its way worse and more in your face. They are shooting themselves in the foot because I know people who were going along in the religion, content, not really thinking about things and then these articles come out and it turns them off and they begin to question. The watchtower is some cases is doing the apostates work for them as they are turning people off to the religion with how they are demanding everyone submit to their authority. Its a strange time in watchtower land, and its crazy to see how it has deteriated.

There is a difference between there being a harmful chemical in juice boxes that needs to be taken out, and a massive conspiracy involving the US government putting chemicals in the juice boxes in order to make people gay. The first one is a legitimate topic, latter is kookie talk.

It would be sad if this is true because Alex Jones is a joke. He said on his show that juice boxes and kettle chips make people gay, something about the government putting chemicals in the juice boxes that make kids gay.
The idea of FEMA camps is believable, too bad most people wont take it serious since Alex Jones has no credibility.

ok, i'll give them that, and we can talk about the NOW. NOW the watchtower covers up child rape. NOW the watchtower encourages people to let their children die rather than have a blood transfusion. NOW the watchtower promotes the shunning of mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, sisters, brothers, grandparents if one of them steps out of line with the hundreds of rules made by the leaders.i could go on and on.
past or present the watchtower has no leg to stand on.
