Hmmm....I wonder what those ancient little Israelite boys would play when their dads were off fulfilling their military duty for the king??? Would they possibly have dared to play....WAR???

Awake magazine 1973 The Dangers of playing Chess!! Why it's Evil.
by Witness 007 inawake 1973 3/22 p.12 "...the spirit of competion between players can lead to unplesant circumstances...most families manage to keep the conflicts that arise in games to the chess board.
but in some homes tensions linger long after checkmate.
chess has been a game of war since it originated...a play substitute for the art of war....a danger of stirring up competition with one another even developing hostility towards another, something the bible warns christians to avoid doing...what effect does chess have upon one?

Blues Brother, You gave me the answer I was looking for: the most recent "ruling" on the matter. Thank you! Guess I'm going to be "out" quite soon!

Thank you, Blondie! I'll check those out. But knowing as I do the way JW's think, having been a very active member for almost 60 years, I am sure of the inevitible outcome of all this.

Thanks for such quick responses from everyone. (BTW, I have tried to take my photo off as my avatar on this site, but it's impossible. I put it up when I was very new to this situation and new to my separation from the WTS. I see now that may have been unwise.)
Boyzone, I have a huge family of witnesses, but the only ones I'm concerned about "hurting" is my husband's parents, who are very elderly now. I've been trying to keep "under the radar" as you say only for their sakes. I've been baptized since 1961, am now 62 years old and have fully abandoned this religion for about 3 years now, although it was an ongoing withdrawal since about 2001.
So, I guess if I meet with these elders or not, either way, I'm going to be officially out. That in itself will be a relief, except for the two people that I know it would deeply hurt. However, I'm way past the point on putting on any kind of "front". Let the chips fall.

Happy New Year one and all!,
The local elders sent a letter home with my hubby, pretty much stating that after "many" attempts to visit and speak with me, this letter is once again asking to meet because it came to their attention that I voted in the last pres. election. So they need to "clear this up" and discuss the "next step".
Yes, I voted (and I felt great about it!!!)
Why are they making this an issue! The Nov. 1, 1999 Questions from Readers clearly states more than once that voting is ultimately a conscience matter. I cannot find any "new light" since then. Does anyone know what the WTS's stance right now is on this subject?
I appreciate it!

Letter from elders
by Cynisister inthe local elders have been trying to visit me (my hubby still attends meetings and he has told them i don't wish to speak with them), they left a copy of a watchtower (on helping inactive ones to return) in my door when i was not at thome, and this last sunday asked my husband if it's ok to write me a letter saying this is what they have to do.
they can't freely stop by as we have large dogs that would keep them out.. does anyone know if this is going to result in my being df'd??
i don't want that to happen yet as my husband's parents who are quite elderly, would be devastated.

Thanks for all the responses. (sir82, I have thought about taking my photo off - probably will do that today.) What I'm gathering is that we will have to wait and see what this brings. I'm not "sweating it' not am I afraid - I really don't acknowledge their authority over me anymore - just more curious than anything else to see if others have had a similar experience and what happened to them as a result.

Hello all,
The local elders have been trying to visit me (my hubby still attends meetings and he has told them I don't wish to speak with them), they left a copy of a Watchtower (on helping inactive ones to return) in my door when I was not at thome, and this last Sunday asked my husband if it's OK to write me a letter saying this is what they have to do. They can't freely stop by as we have large dogs that would keep them out.
Does anyone know if this is going to result in my being df'd?? I don't want that to happen yet as my husband's parents who are quite elderly, would be devastated. At their age it would be cruel to put this upon them, as we see them often.
Should I worry?
Thanks, Cynisister

DC Talk on Generaton
by Cynisister inas i will not be in attendance for this year's district convention, i would love to know exactly what the talk on the new meaning of "generation" actually states.
i visited my recently widowed mother (who found the "truth" when i was a toddler, and therefore i was raised in the religion - quit it totally 3 years ago) and had a lively discussion on the implications of this "new light".
she seemed really disturbed about all the "new anointed" ones coming out of nowhere.

Thanks to all for your replies and attempted "clarifications". I say that sarcastically to show up the ridiculous and far-fetched efforts of the WTS to satisfy the questions I'm sure many have but won't ask aloud. I agree they are buying more time in view of all the previous failed prophecies. As I told my mother to remember, truth never changes!!
