What will be the reaction in the congregation when...

we have many older brothers and sisters in our congregation, and surely the same in many congregations all around the world.. what will be the reaction in the congregations when all these older ones, who were sure they wouldn't die before the end, pass away and leave a vacuum in the congregation.. i don't wish these older brothers and sisters harm, but eventually they will be too old to follow and they will die away.. it won't be the same anymore, when they see these old pillars who stood so faithfully crumble due to old age.. .

My dad died in 1984 and left my mum on her own who was and continued to be a really zealous witness. Obviously the comfort she got from her belief at the time from all the bros and sisters who came to visit was that she wouldn't have to wait long as armageddon was just about to come and she would be seeing him very soon.

Roll on 23 years later and my mum died last year and it breaks my heart to know that the false promises she was given never came to fruition. She never saw a new system and a paradise as promised after having dedicated nearly 60 years to that belief. None of her friends who were the main stalwarts of the cong then are now around but at least they were genuine in their belefs and feelings towards others not like the bunches of uptight bigots that there are now.

I have shingles I think.

for those of you who don't know what it is.it's a form of the chicken pox virus.after you get chicken pox as a kid the virus goes dormant in your nerve endings.most people never have any problem again with this virus.some people like me get the shingles.the symptoms include pain in your nerves.a rash that looks like tiny blisters.aches and flu like symptoms.and many others.i am contagious to people who have never had the chicken pox before.especially small children and pregnant women.you can't get the shingles from me but you can get chicken pox from me.. i have this stabbing pain in my back which i thought was a pinched nerve.i also have a thing on my back in the spot where i thought i had the pinched nerve that i thought was a spider bite.the pain is radiating around my side to my right breast.my right breast has been burning for 3 days now,about the same amount of time as i've had this spider bite looking thing on my back.i chalked that up to time of the month.this "spider bite " looking thing is on my right side.i'm having aches and pains like i have the flu.i don't feel good.. i asked my boss's mom to look at this bite thing and see if that was what it was because i've never had a spider bite before but i know they can get infected really bad sometimes.i didn't put 3 and 3 together with the nerve pain and the burning breast and the spider bite thing.the other girl i work with was there and she said it looked to her like shingles.i freaked out because i've had them before but not since i was a kid i was 10 or 11.my boss has 3 little girls i thought might be able to get chicken pox from me through contact with him.

so i called a nurse answer line at the county hospital to see if that could happen.i told the nurse what was happening and what had been suggested to me might be shingles.she told me i needed to get my butt to the doctors in the next 24 hours for anti viral meds.that's the only way to clear this up quickly.otherwise i'll have this for months possibly.the nurse then proceeded to make an appointment for me tomorrow at the next available clinic in there system.she also made an appointment for me to get rated on a sliding scale to pay for this treatment.. stress brings them on so does weakened immune system from illness.i have both right now.i'm sick and i'm overly stressed at the moment.sigh..

Did they give you advice to stay away from pregnant women and the vulnerable elderly? its qiute dangerous to them if it is it. The GP may give you some antiviral meds, and amitryptilene (not sure of the US equivalent name ) for the nerve pain. Don't scratch it at all or it may become infected and scar, use calamine lotion to ease the itching.

does anyone have any good memories at all of beng raised a jw?

the cong i was brought up in was a different one to the ones we were in when we got married.

growing up the meetings were a great social event for all us kids.

Does anyone have any good memories at all of beng raised a JW? The cong I was brought up in was a different one to the ones we were in when we got married. Growing up the meetings were a great social event for all us kids. We used to have the book study at our house for many many years there were about 25 -30 of us and everyone used to bring food for afterwards and stayed for an hour or so and us kids about 10 of us around the same age used to be able to go and play outside run around etc.

As we grew up and we all hit teenage years we used to go up to my bedroom and play music chat and have a good gossip. This was what we lookded forward to the bookk study was just a means to an end and it was a long hour till it finished.

We used to also have regular get togethers played party games and generally had a good time. The people that were in then were genuinly lovely people who were convinced they were in the right religion.And when I see them on occasions now they haven't changed much, stll lovely genuine people.

However in the later years and we moved congs as we moved about after we were married I could see a definite difference. It bred a bunch of holier than thow bigots who are only interested in absolute control no genuine love or concern for the so called lowly in the congs. If you aren't in the elders clique then heaven help you.

Has anyone else noticed a difference over the years?

...were between the ages of 10 and 15 in 1975; and looking back on your life how did that effect you?

I was 14 and can't really remember much about it, my mum and dad never really mentioned it to be honest it wasn't the be all and end all of things as I can remember. The one thing I do remember is that my mum wanted to buy a new stair carpet the year before and the elders telling her not to bother wasting her money as she wouldn't have it for long. I think she was quite peeved but my dads common sense prevailed and made her get one (looking back they were reasonably balanced actually). They then went on to have at least 3 more as we were growing up so it just goes to show.

I was 16 and did it cos my friend and I did everything together. It was years later that I learnt that you were supposed to dedicate your life at the same time as being dunked thats how much notice I really took.

Should I DA myself?

Your account brought tears to my eyes I couldn't beleive what I was Reading. the unfortunate thing is that this is something that you changed your whole life to be a part of and to be treat like that is despicable.

I would say there a several issues to adress before DA yourself. The first is do you have any other relatives in the organization or is it just you? that has a great bearing on whether you want to maintain a relationship with someone. if not then you have nothing to loose by writing the letter but think carefully first.

tThe second is the issue with the Pervert. Did you ever contact the police especially if he is still in good standing? I presume you are not still with him. how come you both got reproved when he was the nasty piece of work. If you still have the proof, now you are not attending there is nothing to stop you from reporting your suspicion if just to protect those poor little children trapped in there.

Thirdly you sound like a very spiritual person and seeking something. don't worry re the children they are very resiliant. Spend the time now with them celebrating all that is good with their lives and be content with believing in God in the comfort of your own home rather than loking for a structured way in which to do it as part of an organised body.

My husband and I escaped 8 years ago with my son and daughter. he had been an elder for quite some years but due to a situation with my daughter resigned and just stopped going and me a couple of weeks later. However while he was an elder he always encouraged people to better themselves by getting an education even though he was really not supposed to do. My problem is that I have hardcore brother and sister and family still in, and it breaks my heart that they are so staunch. They have never turned their back on me all these years think that is mainly because they live away and Istill feel I lead a bit of double life not letting them know I smoke or celebrate xmas etc. Actually don't know what they think I do but they don't ask and I don't tell them. They would never listen to our arguments re the organisation and they would loose all their friends if they ever left and would totally cut us off if we hinted at any doubts that we held any negative views regarding the organisation. I don't se how I can ever sow the seeds of doubt but if I ever did and they left they would be leaving 50 and 60 years of indoctrination behind them and they would never be able to build them selves another life and I would feel so so guilty, but I can't stand to see them so brainwashed.

Had tooth pulled-tremendous pain

yesterday i had an abscessed wisdom tooth pulled.

the pain now is much more severe then before it was pulled.

the worst pain is where the dentist gave me the local injections-it hurts so bad!

You poor thing I really sympathise. A few years ago I had a tooth extracted a couple of days before a circuit assembly. I was in a lot of pain but still managed to soldier on as you did to the assembly. However the pain was so bad that my hubby had to take me to the A&E dept as I was in so much pain. They xrayed me and actually admitted me as the infection had got into the bone and I had to go on IV antibiotics for 3 days to clear it. That was because I had developed a dry socket and the infection had spread, so please please don't leave it get some emergency attention as soon as possible. The only benefit is they gave me an injection that worked instantly of voltarol so I had instant relief. Don't know what they call it in the states but sure they have some equivalent.
