well mentalclearness...i´d have to agree on many things with joannadandy, and just add, the future is not just out there waiting to happen. the future, the chances, the opportunities are what you both make them to be.

Stagflation is here!
by 5go inrising prices, slowing growth hint at stagflation by paulette miniter|paulette miniter archive|published: january 3, 2008. .
like disco, stagflation died out with the 1970s.
but as oil prices approach $100 a barrel and the economy shows signs of slowing down, whispers of stagflation making a comeback are starting to be heard.

actually friedman´s ideas are the polar oppposite of what you suggested. he suggests controlling inflation thru money supply, not that "inflating the money supply would grow the economy". thats actually a well known recipe for inflation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monetarism

am deeply sorry. i can feel how much pain everyone in your family must be going thru. try to be there as much as possible for him, suicide attempts are usually cries for help, so remember him how much he means to you and your family and friends. counseling would be of great help as well.

well, most human behaviour is reward-motivated, be it emotional, finantial, social, etc, etc.... so it it should not be very surprising. how many people would leave their religions, if all of a sudden there was a "contract change" and they said.. "hey, sorry, no more heaven for you... but you are welcome to stay". specially those for which this notion is their battle horse. i think of it as a matter of principles (or lack of) vs reward seeking behaviour. to deeply assimilate the notions and and implications that make moral and ethical beings and lives is far more complicated and everlasting, to be considered as common as a basic human trait such as reward-seeking.

shopaholic, the 6000 years figure is very old. christians came out with it a while ago by supposedly adding up the dates and timeframes derived from the stories and geneology in the bible.

What kind of receiver should I get? Stereo or 7.1 Channel?
by JK666 ini am mostly into music (loud), but i do listen to video over it.
my old receiver just bought the farm, and currently i only have two speakers.
do you techno-geeks have any suggestions?.

marantz are awesome. 5.1 over stereo anyday... 7.1, i dont know.. there arent many sources in 7.1 format (yet, and i dont know if it will catch up in the future) so i wouldnt know if its worth the premium. as for wattage. rms..... depends on where you are putting the system and the acoustics of the place. i´ve got 500w rms on my living room, and 300 rms on my bedroom and 440w rms (combined outputs) on my car and rarely use over 50% of that, but its good to have a high ceiling as it makes for a nice pad way before you perceive distortion at certain frequencies. as its been said, signal/noise are one of the first things to look at.
