I just remember another. "Don't take a vacation from Jehovah!". Yes, even on vacation attend all your meetings. Don't have too much fun on vacation, lol. I remember talks on this very subject.

Worst WT term ever
by Robert7 inmy vote for the worst watchtower term is:.
circumcision of the heart!.
i can't believe that there are people who can not only say "circumcision of the heart" with a straight face in front of the congregation, but defend its 'meaning'.. other runners up in my opinion:.

What I never understood is that if the people on Earth will be perfect, guided by Jehovah's perfect laws and principles, then why do they need 144,000 co-rulers? People all will be following the laws, so what is there to do? If the laws are perfect, then it's not like Congress passing new laws...

What JW Beliefs Did You...
by Abandoned inwhat jw beliefs did you make up for your own sanity?.
for me it was regarding the flood.
instead of believing that god had destroyed millions of people, i imagined that because of all the violence, by the time the flood came, the only people besides noah and his family that were still alive were the nephilim.

Sadly, It was that this was "The Truth" and the Governing Body was truly spirit directed. With this blind faith, I just accepted many things even though I didn't agree. This included the 1914 doctrine and the teaching around the WWII fabrications of spiritual darkness and the preaching work coming to a halt. This blind faith of "The Truth" made me accept many things that I didn't believe.

How long does it take to make a Witness?
by DoubleVision insorry, i don't have a punch line for this subject line, but i .
sure someone will come up with one.. anyway, how long does it take to make a witness?.
after seeing the 2007 stats i thought to myself how many.
-

According to jwfacts.org, it's about 7500 hours per baptisim. That's about 3 1/2 YEARS of full-time secular work hours. http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/statistics.htm

How Do Elders Sleep at Night? a non exJW friend asked me
by feenx inhey everybody
so after my post yesterday in reference to the scan of the flock book, then going over the notes taken by the elder in north carolina in reference to child molestors taking authority roles in the congregation and the society instructing for previous records of their abuse to be destroyed, (which btw i love how it's noted that it's a rare case when that happens.
umm...doesn't that just confirm that it has happened, since it's rare, and not just a "policy") i sent the photos to a friend of mine as we were discussing it all.

I think the elders don't just drink the Kool-Aid, but have an IV of it all the time. I really think that most are honest and actually believe it, and believe they are doing the right thing. They just REALLY drank the Kool-Aid.

What keeps most members in the ''spiritual netting'' of the WTS?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inbirds or any other animal can be caught with a net.
they don't have the wisdom to see what's coming.. what does the wts use that is so powerful that most members can't seem to escape?
what makes them so powerful that they can have so much effect on everyone of us?.

It's the CONSTANT reminders of all the doctrines... this being "The Truth", the world is bad, last days, paradise earth, etc. Most importantly the reminders of "Jehovah's organization" and "Faithful and Discreet Slave" that convinces people this is the truth. Without the Truth you are dead and will not get resurrected (fear). It really is brainwashing.

What is the dumbest
by sspo inwhat is the dumbest thing you heard from the stage, comments and suggestions given that shows how the watchtower .
wants to control every aspect of your life.. one comment made in 1978 in chicago at a district convention, talk about staying clean.
in a very loud voice, screaming in the microphone, bro.
-
Robert7
A recent District Assembly there was a motivational talk about staying a virgin. It was like a pep rally. The speaker would say "Are you going to avoid pre-marital sex?" and the audience cheered "YEAH!!!" Then again, "Are you going to avoid pre-marital sex?" and everyone "YEAH!!!" I agree with the principal, but I was so embarrased to be there.

Were YOU a JW Who Was Always Afraid, Depressed or Ill?
by minimus inwhile i was an elder (in 2 congregations), over the years, i saw most witnesses that suffered from s o m e t h i n g.. either a witness had chronic depression, mysterious ailments that were never clearly diagnosed by a doctor, or were in fear.
afraid to offend another brother's conscience.,afraid to upset the elders.
afraid to grieve the holy spirit.

I never really 'drank the koolaid' so I wasn't any of that fortunately. I guess a small part of me really didn't buy the nonsense and I really didn't think about. I think part of the reason there are many people with issues is that the faith attracts those types who are looking for hope and answers. It attracts freaks.

Obsessed Ex-JWs----Are You One Of Them?
by minimus inare you consumed by your having been a witness?
are you very angry all the time because of your jw past?.
have you ever thought about recieving professional therapy?
-

I am quite early in the fading process, meaning I just recently learned 'the truth'. I am so obsessed right now. I cannot stop thinking about it. All day, before I go to bed, etc. When the door rings or phone rings I worry it's the elders trying to hound me (so far they haven't bothered me). I just can't stop thinking about it. I guess it's part of the recovery process. I can't wait until it's a distant memory and I just live life as normal.
