I have found it interesting because they think alike because they are forced to, not because they want to.
What's interesting, is at meetings/assemblies they love to rave about 6+ million worshipping in unity, but the unity is fake. It is part of being in a high control group.

The Skeptics' Annotated Watchtower - What Does the Bible Really Teach?
by B_Deserter ini'm going to start a project.
i'm going to do a paragraph-by-paragraph rebuttal of as much watchtower literature i can get my hands on.
i've been inspired by v's watchtower comments, so i'm going to do the same with books and brochures.

I think this is a great idea. This is great for lurkers and newbies (like myself) because it helps give a reality perspective on the Kool-aid being dispensed. It is easy to get sucked back into the Borg, so this is great.
I agree that it's important that it is logical and not emotional. The posts by V do a very good job at that. If they were emotional, they could very easily be discounted as 'apostate' by active JWs, so logic should always win. -

Would you support a witness who was refusing a transfusion?
by Caedes ini was thinking about what i would do if a family member was in the situation of refusing a blood transfusion.
if the doctors were trying to force them to accept a transfusion, would i support my family members right to choose or would i take the position that they are brainwashed and are incapable of making a rational choice on the matter?
does the fact that they are hopelessly ill informed take away from their right to make a choice that they know will kill them?

If it were my immediate family, and if it came down to life/death and it were up to me, I would not support it. I could never let my family die due to the blood issue.
The first thought that comes to mind is sargeant in Forrest Gump. He was so mad that he was not allowed to die in battle, but later thanked him for saving him.
I bet most Witnesses ultimately would appreciate life over death (over the blood issue). Crazy concept I know :) -

was anyone actually proud and happy to be spreading the word(ministry)
by looloo ini can only think of one person who actually seemed to have "joy in her heart "on the min when i studied , and even the dubs used to hate being put with this person, it all seems so obvious now that it has nothing to do with a love for god , but doing whats expected of you

My opinion of this is that IF this was TRULY a lifesaving work, then ALL witnesses would and should be out ALL the time.
The reality is, based on the many people I've spoken to, is that most hate it, and do very little, which means they don't truly believe it's a lifesaving work. -

Things You HATED About Being a JW
by minimus inthere were a few things that i hated about being a witness.. i love music and live concerts.
quite often i'd have to play my music privately or hide an album cover for fear it might "stumble" someone.
i hated worrying whether someone was going to somehow get "stumbled.. regarding going to concerts, it seemed that certain artists only came to town on a meeting night and i'd miss the shows.. what did you hate about being a jehovah's witness?.

1) Field service. Funny thing is recenlty talking to people, virtually everyone actually hates it!
2) Commenting. I felt so stupid having to repeat a sentance that was just stated in the paragraph, which was already written at a 5th grade level. -

Even active witnesses think this is way over the top.....
by yourmomma inthere were gasps after watching this.
i heard the anti college talks at the dc this year, and while many people i know didnt agree with them, this following video stunned many of them.
there are many people on this forum, many have gotten to where they are many different ways.

What I don't understand is, what's the difference with a 'career' (with a degree) and a 'job' (without a degree)? They make a 'career' sound so evil.
You have to work ~40 hours a week anyway, so why not make a decent salary and not struggle? The WT would rather you work a low-end job and never be able to make ends meet, so you are forced to rely on
Jehovahthe WTS. -

"Let us praise those who have dropped out of college"
Also, college is like putting a rifle in your mouth and pulling the trigger.
Insane!

Once You Had Doubts, How Long Before You Got On The Internet?
by minimus inthe watchtower society keeps telling everyone to stay away from the evil internet.
they claim that once you surf the internet, even if it's done innocently, it's the beginning of the end.
were you personally affected in your faith because you turned on the computer?

It took me to the point of wanting to leave before I ever researched on the Internet. So I was slowly fading for over a year before I got to the point of wanting to leave. So I came to my own conclusions and doubts with my own understanding. The facts on the Internet simply confirmed virtually everything, which was actually very refreshing knowing I wasn't going crazy.

The greatest story ever told. This is the sun.
by freefly inquoted some info from the greatest story ever told -this is the sun (god's sun.).
-the sun is the most adored object of all time.. -the christian religion is a parody on the worship of the sun.. -the tracking of the stars allowed them to recognize and anticipate events occurred over long periods of time, such as eclipses and full moons.
they in turn catalogued clestial groups into what we know today as constellations.. -one of the oldest conceptual images in human history reflects the sun as it figuratively passes through the 12 major constellations over the course of a year.

I found this movie to be fascinating. It contains some conspiracy theory that is hard to validate, but I have found the 'age' explanation to be very interesting. Being a former JW, I find that I do not trust any one source, but this movie does a great job introducing a very different perspective, and gives very interesting evidence that the Bible is just a collection of myths.
