I never understood why Smurfs were 'bad', but I know that they were considered 'demonic' and good JWs weren't supposed to watch.

SO proud... Wife brought COC as reading material on a road trip...

Thanks everyone... It really takes a slow trickling of information over a long time to be effective. Too much and the walls go up and you're an apostate.
I didn't directly realize it at the time, but I've been dropping seeds over the years with little doubts that I've been noticing... -

Dawg, in some respects we have been droping seeds of doubts. My wife simply talking to her friends about my situation has realized that virtually everyone has doubts of some sort, and virtually everyone hates service. They just supress them as I did over the years, but as we chat more over time, we'll see what other doubts we can sew...

cognac: you seem to be going thru exactly what I am going thru! So thanks for the encouragement, and best wishes to you!
seek2find: She actually found my -hidden- copy of COC. So actually I was worried about what she would think. Fortunately in my case curiosity got a hold of her and she read it.
alanv: I can't imagine trying to leave the borg even 15 years ago when information was hidden. Fading is my preferred approach... now I'm working on finding real friends who don't care of our faith.
StAnn: I absolutely believe in being united. I am attending Sundays just to support her. I'll be supportive whatever she decides, but I don't want religion to be a dividing factor in the family...
Memario: I agree that telling people, and researching, of the this false-truth is way better than preaching. I find it very intriguing to read books on different religious subjects now.
seek2find: You are great to stand by your wife all these years. I know it's a tough battle, one that may never be won, depending on the person. Best wishes! -

What was great is she really sees it as not the truth. Hard part for her is ties with close friends. She has played out different scenarios in her head, from DA ourselves, to just fading, to moving out of the city. She's making plans to diminish her service time, and work towards a fade...
What's interesting what motivated her, and her reactions:
- She is 'all or nothing'. Either be in, and participate including Service, or completely get out. I personally am ok with fading.
- The way the removal and DF of Franz was handeled was what really convinced her it's not the truth. She didn't care too much of the 1914/1975 failed prophecies and hypocracies. I was the opposite. I didn't care as much of the handling of Franz, it was the failed prophecies and hypocracies that did it for me.
- Knowing this, she feels like she needs to tell others, although she's keeping hush. I personally don't mind keeping low and just fading without getting DFd for apostacy.
I guess there are different ways an open and thinking mind can determine it's not the truth, and people obviously react different ways! This has been some great progress!
Ironically, of all things, it's the personal friendships that keeps us 'in' (for now at least). We'll see how it goes... -

Do You Believe The Majority of JWs Believe Everything They Are Taught?
by minimus inyears ago, nearly every jw were true believers.
even if they were considered weak in the faith, they accepted all the beliefs and views from "mother".
do you think today's witnesses accept everything as being the truth?.
-
Robert7
Every active Witness I've talked to has doubts of some sort. Many really have issues with the intricate details of 1914/1919 and the history of the JWs as described in the Daniel book & Revelation book. Many HATE going out in service.
They all throw it under the rug, since this is "the truth". This worked for me for a while... -

Premonitions and Prayer - Explained!
by Seeker4 inyesterday and today i had a couple of things happen to me that i think tie in well with why many people believe in the supernatural, or in their ability to foresee events.
yesterday, i had to travel a few hundred miles to do an interview for a magazine article, and i knew stormy weather was coming here in vermont.
i had a bad feeling about the trip and the possible weather complications, so much so that i actually called my insurance company and checked on my coverage.

So it is my opinion that you are wrong. Science has proven that sometimes human beings are able to perceive things outside of our "normal" senses. They just don't know how the information is being conveyed.
I think this kind of logic proves the point made by Seeker4. When there is some occurance that cannot be explained, people want to credit gods/spirits/etc. Could be psycological, could be 'vibes', or something yet to be discovered. "I don't know" does not equal "God".

What is Heaven?
by Robert7 inbased on my research the last few months, i think i realize what heaven is.
this is not a new concept, and i'm sure many have come to this conclusion... .
thousands of years ago, the belief was an 'earth-centric' universe.
-
Robert7
But if there is a god and he and the angles are invisable how do you expect to see heaven from a space ship?
Anything is possible. But the fact that it's possible that it's invisible certainly doesn't prove anything either. Just another possibility on the table.
It is obvious in this thread that the definition of Heaven, all based on the Bible, varies between religions and people. The only proof is in the Bible. This provides more ammo that proves that no one really knows, and we won't really know until after we die.

Heaven means different things to different people... but not as the bible states as a physical place above the earth.
