In most areas they were probably convinced by the food, shelter, and other humanitarian goods available after they say they believed it.

-Let's say you had never heard of the Bible:
by Awakened07 inlet's say you've grown up in a country that - somehow - has shielded you completely from any knowledge of the bible and its god and history.
all your life you've believed in the four legged, three headed, four winged borlifingus (of course, the arms, legs etc.
are just representations of it's spiritual properties).

Need suggestions... how do I respond to my elders?
by Robert7 inso our fade is not going so well.
too many people have been asking about us, and therefore giving us attention.
we've had no choice but tell select few friends that we're discouraged, and one that we're having a hard time believing the fds in general.

As of now, I think we will meet with the elders. We will ask for the 2 specific ones that we think will be nicest. What we don't want is to automatically 'DA ourselves' based on the comments, and our refusing to meet. So meeting is the lesser of the evils.
So I'll take the advice to keep it simple, and seem sincere, and NOT say anything incriminating. Let them 'encourage us' so they can feel good that they're doing all they can. Then they have no grounds on us for anything, and we'll continue our fade.
We'll see how it goes... will keep you posted... -

Summer is here and I am Mean Mommie
by mrsjones5 in*rolls eyes* my dear hubby rented 3 movies, one of them was "juno".
i kindly requested that the children were not to see that movie.
just a moment ago my hubby came down stairs alone and i asked where were the children.

It pissed me off that the Society would say that I, as a mature adult cannot watch R movies (which I watched anyway, LOL)
But as a father of two kids, I do agree that the ratings should apply to the age groups defined. I think you are 100% correct with limiting what the kids are exposed to on TV and movies. -

Is Jdubs practice of Teenage baptism really any better than Infant Baptism?
by blkblk13 inso i was thinking the other day about how the jdubs always mock the catholics for baptizing infants who can't make a true commitment to god so the sybol of dedication is empty.
well, as anyone who's been in the org knows there is a culture of pressuring teenagers to get baptized.
if u r over 12yo it is a question that is constantly asked.

I remember a DC where an 8 year old was getting baptised. This was announced, and everyone clapped about how wonderful it was. Even when I was really 'in' I felt that SO wrong.
I always felt that no one under 18 should be baptized for the exact reason as discussed, which is to be able to know exactly what they are getting into. Fact is, doesn't matter even at 18 because by then they will have been fully indoctrinated. -

All the witch-hunting and hounding is really pissing me off. It is doing nothing more than pushing me away further and moreso confirming why I want to leave. Why should I waste MY time answering to some guys just for ONE comment? I am so tempted to just DA and get it over with.

clarification on college
by isaacaustin incan i have a bit of clarification on this?
i am assuming that going to college (or having kids doing so) does not disqualify an elder/ms.
it is the publicly promoting it that does disqulaify one.

These loopholes are really concerning since it's SO subjective. If they don't have enough to make a hard rule (and a hard rule is BS in itself) then they should make no rules at all. The WTS should just get out of people's affairs and let them just make a personal decision for once.

Please, I need helpful suggestions.....
by New light for you ini've been reading this board for a while, but never posted, but now everything has changed and i have nowhere to go for suggestions- .
my witness husband (robert7) in december, the night before the assembly, told me that he isn't a witness anymore, doesn't want to be involved anymore, doesn't believe it.
of course, i'm a good witness, take the kids out in service a few days a week every week... very active in the cong.my first reaction was that "i cant love him if he doesn't love jehovah" and it really looked like we surely would get a divorce in jan/feb.

Thanks all for helping both of us.
It just angers me that the hint of not believing the Society makes everyone DROP you like that. Honestly it actually makes leaving easier as it shows the Society and the people for what they really are. -

Thanks again for all your great comments. For immediate damage control, I called by BS conductor (my PO is the one who called me) and played all nice simply saying that I prefer to talk with him as we have a rapport, versus NO rapport with my PO. This BS conductor is really a nice guy, and he seems sincere to just help, and not kick us out. (NO idea what agenda the PO has)
I then said that my wife has been having a hard time recently, and simply said some things she didn't mean. I really tried playing it all down. But I said that we're not ready to meet with the elders, and can we defer it. Additionally I asked that when we meet in the future that he and another specific brother meet, since we have a relationship, and it makes my wife more comfortable.
So I played it down, deferred it, and defined (or at least requested) which brothers we will meet with. At this point I feel that the brothers will try to 'encourage' us and will likely leave us alone for a while. -

Thanks for all your comments so far. It's weird how even though mentally I'm not a JW, how they still have some level of control. I guess after years of indoctrination, I'm still afraid to get DF'd, although I am prepared to DA if I must.
