Very simple. Not everyone with a college education will leave the JW faith. And some people with a college education will join it.

Why JWs avoid sharing in toasts vs. wikipedia
by song19 inso i stubled on the following image on gbletters site.
you have to love how the watchtower uses circular reasoning quoting from older watchtower articles to reinforce their points.
i thought i would have a look myself to see what the toast signifies and its history this was very surprising.

Interesting! Here's another article confirming this. It does mention theories that it may ward of spirits, but it's far more about trusting the host.
http://itotd.com/articles/518/the-toast/
I like the final thought, that gives a well-balanced view on this:
Today, all the historical (and pseudo-historical) associations of this ritual have been lost, and yet we continue to go through the motions of what appears to be a sort of secular communion. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, I think we could do with a few more customs that bring us together in spontaneous acts of community.

birthdays in new release WT pub
by isaacaustin ina subtle difference in the new book....it says something like "the bible reports negatively on birthdays- especially in the case of john the baptist...".
they are subtly admitting that the gen account does not strongly put b-days in a bad light and choose to focus on john the baptist.
obviously if they paid attention to the man spared and the results of that the gen 40:20 account would be positive.. yet they also now added the comments attributing birthdays to satanism..... .

Sounds like it. Went from a relatively moderate "it is seen in a bad light in the Bible" to "birthdays are a Satanic ritual"!
I hope those thinking ones in the faith call BS on this.

by QuestioningEverything ini am shocked and saddened by the things that i have learned from this website and a few others i've seen.
my grandma was a witness and my mom started to study seriously when i was 8 yrs.

Yes, you should question everything. You will learn (or confirm) that SO much of what you were taught was a lie. It takes a lot of time to heal. I did so rather quickly over a period of 6 months, but many take longer.
Remember, it's ok to use your brain and question anything you are taught. If anyone (WTS) tells you otherwise, then they are hiding something.
Take your time, and slowly research to confirm what you are now learning. It will help the healing process and will help you move on. JWD helps many thru this process.

Oh my gosh, this comparing Birthdays to Satanism is SO over the top!!
So let me get this straight. Just because THEY (Satanists) celebrate birthdays, WE cannot do it? Who cares what they do and what significance they give to a birthday?
Why should WE change our behavior because of what someone else does?
Talk about scare tactics! Now when people find out we're celebrating our daughter's birthday, we will be literally looked at as Satanists. What a cult!

You know, there actually was a time when I actually felt that "every time the Society has given direction, even though didn't make sense at the time, they have always been right."
Boy am I glad I didn't listen to their direction and questioned everything.

Blondie: Then conversely, no one who is poor should ever leave the WTS.......right?
I think the answer the GB is hoping for is YES. If you are poor you NEED the WTS for hope & direction.
