Another case of JW shunning - these people have no respect!
by Robert7 inas a quick background, only my mother and my mil are jw's.
my wife and i are inactive, but not df'd or da'd.
my mil (who has been great to us and treats us normally) has recently told me that "jws don't shun".

Fortunately she herself didn't bother me much. I don't at all feel 'victimized'. It was just the principle of the whole thing, and another slam for me against the Witnesses. How sad it is to see someone so mentionally controlled to act in what I would call a inhumane way.
I still find it very ironic because it really did the exact opposite of what in theory this 'loving arrangement' is supposed to accomplish. It just pisses me off and makes me hate the JWs more, instead of making me want to "return to the fold".
I still don't know if I should tell my non-JW dad about it. He (with my mom) is friends with her and her husband, and I'd hate to create waves amongst their friendship. Gosh, for being the 'evil apostate' I sure am being considerate of their feelings even though she shunned ME!

Oh, just to add, my mom and her friends are in the Polish congregation. We've talked how different areas have different cultures, and well, the Polish congregations, at least in the Chicago area, are quite a bit more hard-lined.
Wildelover - You are right I should call her on it, but haven't done so yet... the weekend flew by!
zoiks - No one saw the shunning... happened quickly, and I just let it go to not create any drama at the wedding.
Blondie - So I have basically been marked. I've seen articles that said to treat inactive ones as DF'd, and they certainly are doing so. I can see it just in the way my mom greets me. She used to lovingly hug me. Now it's like she just lets me hug her. Sad.

As a quick background, only my mother and my MIL are JW's. My wife and I are inactive, but NOT DF'd or DA'd. My MIL (who has been great to us and treats us normally) has recently told me that "JWs don't shun". My mother is a die-hard JW who only talks to me because she has to as my mother.
So this last weekend was my brother's wedding, and I was a groomsman. It was a non-JW wedding, and the only JWs there were my mom, MIL, and my mom's good friend and her husband. My mom's friend has known me for many years and I have talked to her many times.
During the reception I was making my rounds greeting people. I see my mom's friend and her husband sitting at a table. I took the high road and walked up to greet them. I approached her husband first, likely caught him off guard, and shook his hand. Then I say hi to her, and she just sat there staring forward ignoring me, as if I didn't exist! I just said "OK" and walked away. (I admit it did catch me off guard, but I always believe to never draw attention from the bride/groom at a wedding, so I let it go)
The fact that she shunned me really didn't bother me in itself, since I didn't know her too well and I could care less about her. What bothered me was that this JW, member of the 'perfect' faith and god's only chosen people, refused any decency to at least acknowledge me at my brother's wedding! I am her great friend's son and the groom's brother! I deserve at least enough respect to be acknowledged and have a basic greeting at a wedding. Gosh, I offered that to her! A wedding of all times is supposed to be a time of love and happiness!
What these damn JWs don't realize is that this shunning just pisses me off and pushes me even more away from the faith (I am an atheist, so I'd never actually return), but worse just makes me hate the faith even more. It's kind of like when a customer has a good experience they tell 1 friend, but tells 10 friends when they have a bad experience. Instead of me raving what love JWs show to those who left the faith (and maybe theoretically that JWs aren't that bad), I am telling everyone the complete lack of love, decency, and respect they have.
My summary: I am an atheist, she is a JW, member of god's only organization for salvation. At my brother's wedding I kindly walked up to her to greet her and make her feel welcome. She ignored me and refuse to even look at me. From the standpoint of any onlooker, who gave a better example?
This just confirmed even more that it's a cult!

Did you fake underlining the WT?
by shepherd ini read on another topic " i remember when i used to carry microphones years ago in the jw cult- only about 30 % had their wt's pre-studied, the rest just wing it i truly believe" and it reminded me that people will assume you are not familiar with the material if you have not underlined, and that there will always be those who observe the lack of ink and consider you must be unprepared (and so 'weaker' than them).. many times i used to fake prestudy just for that reason.
its easy to do, underline a random sentence or 2 in each paragraph or the sited scripture.
you can wizz through an entire article in 3 minutes....did anyone else do that?.

I always felt "Studying" and "answering questions" was an insult to my intelligence. I am a well educated professional, and they make me restate a sentence written at a fifth-grade level (at best) without any ability to insert any personal thoughts, analysis, etc? What's there to study or underline? Even worse, when I did 'comment' (out of pressure by my wife), people told me "I enjoyed your comment". What did you enjoy? I just restated a sentence. I literally actually felt stupid commenting at meetings. I preferred not answering then stooping down to that level, but at that point I was a little cynical.

It's sad. My mom lives this depressing life that is never fulfilled, because EVERYTHING around her and EVERYTHING that happens is BAD. It's sad that she can't take any enjoyment to enjoy things today, because in her brainwashed mine she has to look forward to the new system. There's nothing I could ever say that would make her acknowledge that at least something is better today than in the past.
"In this system of things" is just another form of major brainwashing and control.

All they're doing is blaming the individual. In no way do they mention WT changed doctrine, lies, coverups, etc. This comes down to the fact that there is no graceful way to stop going to meetings.

For home service I use the VOIP service PhonePower (www.phonepower.com). Service has been excellent, and I prepaid for 2 years which ended up being about $8/month for unlimited in US and Canada. Even better, just get an unlimited cell phone plan and drop the home line.
For cable, I think Dish Network has the best value right now.

So..... are you apostates enjoying your mansions and private jets?
by Mr. Falcon ina super-zealous elder once told me in a very grave tone, "you know, mr. falcon, when someone becomes an apostate and leaves god's organization, they usually do very well physically and materially.
" hence the reason he claims that they feel "vindicated".
now i do also remember hearing such statements in the past from other witnesses.

My mom told me the reason I was leaving was "for money". Granted I have a good job and living, but as we all know that's NOT the reason anyone leaves. But to them that's one of the only few ways they can rationalize leaving the cult.
