Steve2:
However, I also recall a Bible passage (in one of the gospels?) that warns about those who are always saying the day of the end is near? Anyone know the Book, chapter and verse?
I believe this is the scripture that you're looking for, Steve:
Luke 21:8, King James Version
And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am [ Christ ]; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

Is the Kingdom Hall a good place for ugly guys to get pretty girls?
by donny inabout two weeks ago i was having lunch at an establishment that has tables set up on the outside (actually a sidewalk) and as i was waiting for my order, i overheard two guys talking at the next table.
a homely guy who had a pretty girl on his arm brought this response.
"wow man, look at that!

Sorrow ...
by compound complex ini have made repeated attempts to move on with my life since your arrival 23 september but cannot.
a change of venue, that of diet, even new clothes have afforded me but a frivolous and temporary elevation of spirits.
accordingly, as i am thus paralyzed by a most profound sense of melancholia, i lie in bed, starring at a black sky, and pine anew for what little contentment life once offered up.

Oh CoCo, reading this has brought to mind the vision of a man whose hopes and dreams are falling, like leaves from autumn-saddened trees.
I am glad that that you feel verdant with life again. And your posts are certainly not uninteresting; you are JWN's own poet laureate.

LATEST BIG RUMOR: WTS calls a moratorium on ALL KH construction in US & Canada
by sir82 inbased on an informal conversation this past weekend.... an elder with "connections" to the local rbc stated that he heard that the society was instituting a moratorium on all kingdom hall construction in the us and canada.
any projects for which funding has already been arranged will continue, but as of now, no new kh construction loans are being approved by the society.. there are enough projects in the pipeline that rbcs will still be busy for the next year or 2, but after that....who knows?.
my thoughts:.

I think it is an indicator of the WT society admitting to themselves that growth in the witnesses has DEFINITELY slowed significantly in Canada and the U.S. and any growth remaining will occur in 3rd world countries. Not industrialized countries.
On one of my last visits to the KH, I did a bit of counting: my congregation had just 6 women of childbearing age. Yes, just six. Three women had children; three didn't. The other twenty-nine women were in their late 50's to 70's. My congregation was shrinking because they're refusing to multiply/dying off.

I just want this to stop!
by mrsjones5 inas some of you know my husband became ill and we lost our house in indiana.
my parents offered to help and although i really didn't want to do it knowing that my parents have limited resources i really didn't have a choice.
i also wanted to come back to a place that was familiar and where most of my family and friends are.

Oh Josie, I'm really sorry to hear about your family troubles. I know what you're going through; unfortunately, we went through similar nonsense when my own husband became disabled.
Your landlord will not like it if there are continual altercations at your residence. Therefore, if your father doesn't curtail his actions, he may wind up being responsible for having your family thrown out of your present apartment. I bet your dad didn't think about that.
If I were you, I'd still try for the Restraining Order. Parents or not, they're overstepping their bounds.

No One Should Be Made to Choose ..LIES from July 09 Awake
by Hopscotch inthe following quote is taken from the article is it wrong to change your religion?
in the july 2009 awake p29:
no one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family.

Drew:
But is that what they really mean? They never explain the details and instead keep their articles generic and ambiguous. A JW and a non-jw will take away differeant things from this. A JW will recognize that this rule applies except when somebody is leaving "the truth" while a non-jw will most likely believe it implies universal application.
Boyzone:
I took this article into work today to show my colleagues along with the relevant paragraphs from the "How to treat a disfellowshipped person" appendix studied 2 weeks ago at the meeting. I explained that the Awake article was for the public and the appendix material was for Jehovahs Witnesses. I wanted to show them the Awake because they may be offered it on their doorstep.
They were gobsmacked at the opposite statements made. One of my colleagues actually couldn't believe that JW's would be that devious. I explained that the public face can be very different to the private one and only when they've convinced you its the truth do you find out whats really involved.
That is the crux of the matter. Most people do know what the JW belief system is comprised of, and will never really know unless they become a member or are given a truthful critique by someone who is knowledgeable about the WTS. When my JW relatives were busy trying to convert me as a child/teenager, did they mention any of this shunning stuff? Of course not. It was only after my baptism as a JW (mission accomplished), that I began to find out the hideous truth - and I was appalled.

I think they're so scared silly of the Trinity that they try not to think of Jesus too much...
I agree.
...except at the Memorial, which suddenly becomes all about him.
Not really. It's all about the GB anointed.
