Brief Story of Leaving the JWs
by Shepherd Book inmy wife posted her story of how she came to leave the religion: http://mamablogess.blogspot.com/

James,
I just read the whole thing. It was detailed, but very much worth it. Here's the response I wrote in your wife's blog:
That was really touching. I was moved to tears. You went through so much. People need to read stories like yours that help people see the internal conflicts that arise when a thinking person tries to be a good Jehovah's Witness. I am glad you persisted and followed through on what you and James were thinking -- that this theology really isn't true. I'm happy that you eventually landed on the same page, and now you and James and Owen are free of religious fears and superstitions.
As far as fear of death, that's a tough one. After I had my "Eureka" day (it came for me in 2000 when I read the Freeminds website), it took several years to adjust to the thought of life being temporary. I'm okay with it now, that I live fully each day and embrace it, and the day I die will just happen to be a little shorter than your average day!

Pre-Closing Goodbye
by KW13 ini agree with you, this can be exciting.
we can live in the past and wish for the good ol' days of jwd, or we can create good new days in new places!.
we won't all go to the same place.

I agree with you, this can be exciting. It's all in how we look at it. We can live in the past and wish for the good ol' days of JWD, or we can create good new days in new places!
We won't all go to the same place. There won't be a "JWD 2.0". JWD will never ever happen again. But we can take our JWD experience with us and strengthen the places we drift to, if we choose to post anywhere (and some people will choose not to decide -- that's still a choice).
I've registered at two different forums already. There have been plenty of links posted to them and other forums in the last few days on this board.
It's been good knowing you here, especially when it was time for you to become a dad! That was special.
See you here for a while, and maybe elsewhere too.

alternate ex-jw forum
by Ronnie38 ini did get an email this morning regarding the status of jwd.
and yes, it did catch me by surprise.. for those who don't know, we do have an alternate exjw forum at: http://exjehovahswitnessforum.yuku.com.
our site has been around since 2004, but there has been no permanent link to it here, so i wanted to let people know about it who might not have been aware before now.

Ronnie,
I have enjoyed your forum so far. It seems like a friendly place. Thanks for making it available. Some of us just need a little Internet hangout.
As far as what the anti-atheist poster up above said, I'd say most atheists I've known are not militant and are quite agreeable. It seems like some people on either side of the issue aren't able to distinguish good, assertive writing from an "attack". If I say I disagree with your statement, that doesn't mean I'm attacking your intelligence. It only means I disagree with your statement.
If people can't have a little bit of intellectual push-and-pull, things get really stale and boring fast.

I an't going nowhere
by RollerDave ini'll still be here, living on the side of a bluff by the mighty mississip'.
i'll still be grilling steaks and drinking beer in the warm sun.
i'll be driving my apostatruck, toting my shooting iron, spooking the herd, warming the globe.

Good to know you'll be there, Dave!
Your writing has been much appreciated by many here. Wit and good humor crosses social and political boundaries.
I'll probably be moving on to the Yuku ex-JW board, just to have a place to hang. It seems friendly over there.
Later,

The owner of this site does not control which ads appear around the borders of the page. The Google ad site looks for keywords that people have posted and puts up a related ad.

Darklighter,
I don't know what happened to your screen -- try re-booting or something! It looks normal from here.
Anyhow, welcome aboard - from a fellow atheist. Enjoy the ride here.

3 versions of the truth
by JK666 inhey, y'all,.
there are three versions of the truth.. your version, my version, and the real truth somewhere in the middle.. why do some have to become so dogmatic?

I can't keep track of who likes who and which people are fighting on the board. Since we really don't know each other here, I don't see the point of making our disagreements turn into personality clashes and the like. And I really don't have time for it.
But such is the nature of anonymous Internet boards. It'll happen from time to time.
There's really nothing here worth getting emotional over, except maybe for the rare stalker who may try to use boards like this to intimidate someone that they personally know.
Even in the midst of the recent flare-up, there were still good topics and good discussions going on for those who cared to find them.
