Regard your desire to try to reform the WTS from within -- as regards its inhuman shunning procedures, please consider this verse:
"What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is lacking cannot be counted." (Ecclesiates 1:15)
This policy is a strong part of their system of instilling fear into members. Also it prevents former members from bringing different ideas into the organization.
If you go back and try to help bring about a change, they may view you as a troublemaker with apostate leanings. I know you aren't, but that's how they'd likely start to see you.

There is a difference! 1 Corinthians 5:11 talks about those who (1) are called a brother, and (2) are guilty of one of 6 specific sins -- not any 'unrepentant' sinner.

I appreciate your spirit in reaching out. As was stated earlier, the WT allowance for 'normal family relations' mainly applies to marriage mates, or parents and children living under the same roof.

Here's what it said in paragraph 9 under the subheading "Relatives Not in the Household":
"The situation is different if the disfellowshipped or disassociated one is a relative living outside the immediate family circle and home", states The Watchtower of April 15, 1988, page 28. "It might be possible to have no contact at all with the relative. Even if there were some family matters requiring contact, this certainly would be kept to a minimum," in harmony with the divine injunction to "quit mixing in company with anyone" who is guilty of sinning unrepentantly. (1 Cor. 5:11) Loyal Christians should strive to avoid needless association with such a relative, even keeping business dealings to an absolute minimum. --- See also The Watchtower of September 15, 1981, pages 29-30.
My parents treat me like some distant disfellowshipped relative, and try to have as little contact as possible. In a letter to me ,they wrote that the August 2002 Kingdom Ministry contained "sound advice" for them.

The guy seems pretty sure of himself. I challenged his use of 2 John 9-11 to support shunning all DF'd ones, when the verse is actually only referring to those who leave and then come back with a different teaching.

You know the J-dubs can create an answer for ANYTHING. If I were a J-dub I'd say something like this:
The world's charities only provide a temporary solution to this world's problems. The increase in donations to such charities shows that the world is interested in keeping itself going.
Jesus Christ said "Let the dead bury their dead. You, though, go proclaim the Kingdom of God". So Jesus gave us a proper, balanced viewpoint of helpfulness towards elements of the world.
The only real, long-term solution to mankind's problems is God's Kingdom, and not any worldly charity.

I'm with you -- I'd like to see JWD stay as is, but it's a fantasy. Simon is quite definite about taking this site down, but perhaps being an adviser to help get a 'sister' site up and running that is like this one, but with different administrators (and probably a different name).
Fortunately we still have over 3 months to adapt to this change, to switch over to a new site or just to wait and see. A few alternate sites with many of our favorite posters have appeared in the last month.

Yeah right. The Catholic church shuffles its pedophile priests from parish to parish--- very ineffectively.
Equally as insane, the Jehovah's WItnesses might DF someone -- if two eyewitnesses are in place. How many pedophiles do their deeds in front of an eyewitness? The victims are often told by the elders to "shut up" or be threatened with the charge of slander. Thus the term "silent lambs".
The WTS has (as attested to by former Bethelite Barbara Anderson) 23,000 names of known pedophiles on file at Watchtower headquarters being tracked there. The members of the congregations are not warned of pedophiles in their midst. Once reinstated, pedophiles are instructed to go door-to-door with JW literature. Many of the homes have young children in them. How many householders are aware that pedophiles are calling on their doors with innocent-looking Bible literature? Such wolves in sheeps clothing, both the pedophiles and the WTS that protects them.
Sorry, I do not "buy" the notion that the WTS has anything effective in place to deal with pedophilia, which is the sickest and most disgusting crime against harmless victims that I can think of.
