27 people just in Minnesota so far this season were not able to "fight it off themselves" or use any home remedies or stuff they "learned" on the Internet to fight influenza. They DIED, and 1100 have been hospitalized. including teenagers in the prime of life. This is no rumor or anecdote. http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/health/186354402.html?refer=y
There sure are a lot of anecdotal accounts about the flu shot not working or people here and there getting sick from the shot. Inactivated virus is NOT the same as activated virus. In layman's terms, the vaccine works by tricking your body into thinking it has the flu and responding to it. The vaccine is NOT designed to work by introducing the actual live virus inside of you.
If you go by evidence as gathered in scientific research and large-scale statistics instead of individual stories, you are actually helping yourself and the population have a better "shot" at not getting this year's flu if you get immunized.
As Neverscreamagain indicated, this year the scientists did a REMARKABLE job in creating a vaccine that matched the strains most often occurring in nature this season. Let's appreciate their efforts, please.

Scientific research doesn't bear out the phobia that many people will get killed off by the flu shot. Quite to the contrary. In the state of Minnesota we have had 27 flu deaths this season. Statistically, fewer would have died if more had received the vaccine. The WHO and CDC is not out to get us.
Grapefruit seed extract is quack medicine. I did look it up. The studies demonstrated that any antimicrobial effect it had were due to the additives and not the extract itself. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3068720/

NFC & AFC Championship Games - Who Wins & goes to Super Bowl ?
by flipper ingreat time of year for us football fans !
so let's have your picks !
now that we know it will be baltimore ravens vs. new england patriots in the afc championship and atlanta falcons vs. san fransisco 49ers in the nfc championship - what do you think ?
-
Gopher
As much as I'd like to see the 49ers roll on, the Atlanta Falcons always find a way to win at home. Their passing game is something special, and their defense is good enough.
The Patriots have the Ravens' number, the Ray Lewis story not withstanding. The Super Bowl will be the Falcons and the Patriots.
The Falcons will party too much before the Super Bowl, and I trust the Brady-Belichick combination to bring the Lombardi trophy back to Massachusetts.

Yes I was vaccinated back in November.
There is always a risk-benefit balance to think about, but current science tells us that the shot is 60% effective, i.e., you're 60% less likely to get what's going around if you were vaccinated in time.
So there is a risk to NOT getting vaccinated. Some folks who get vaccinated still get the flu, maybe because they caught the virus before the vaccine was fully effective for them because it takes 1-2 weeks to gain full immunity after the vaccination.

Here we go again on "false prophecies"
by booker-t inhi ex-jws on this board.
i have a question that needs answering.
for years i have read on this board ex-jws, born-agains, and other anti-jw group condemn jws for "false prophecies".

I'm not on the board much these days, but thought I'd jump on to address this topic.
JW "new light" is blinking light. They change their doctrines more than any other more religion known to mankind. I challenge ANYONE to name a religion that changes aspects of its doctrine more often.
It's like a shell game. The WT Society, in the role of the magician, plays the game with its followers -- as if they're asking is the truth under this shell, that shell or the third one? If you guess wrong, it's supposedly your fault and not a result of their trickery. They have had approximately 4 separate and distinct explanations of the "generation" prophecy in the last quarter-century. The earlier explanations have joined the large heap of discarded doctrines of the Watchtower Society. The rate at which they have kept changing their doctrines is mind-blowing.
Continual changes do not necessarily represent progress. Never confuse action with progress. The WTS lives by the saying "If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your b.s.". In that way, they are not unlike many or most other religions I suppose, except at the rate at which they do it.
So no, the light isn't getting brighter. They just keep changing the light bulbs. -

Any actual Witnesses here?
by trthskr ini found this site hoping to read topics submitted by jw's so i could learn more, but it just seems to be everyone else here except them.
just about every topic and member is just bashing jw's and their teachings.
this site should be renamed "jwbashertrolls.net".

I saw the link to this thread on Facebook and couldn't resist jumping back in today.
The original post suggests that the name of this website "jehovahs-witness.net" is misleading. Not really. For example, if people were cancer survivors they might have a website that includes the word cancer. It doesn't mean they're in favor of cancer.
As far as the "imperfect people" excuse to explain the misinterpretations and false dates of the Watchtower (1914, 1915, 1918, 1925, 1975 and before the end of the 20th century -- all dates the Watchtower said would bring the end of the system): Well, the Watchtower uses mistakes and imperfections of other religions as a weapon against them. Watchtowerism is merely another entry in the long line of people who portray themselves as interpreters of God's will for man. They're just as weak and flawed as anyone who came before or who have arisen since. -

Just for the record, Weird Al never recorded a song about Elizabeth Taylor. He never had a video dressed as an overweight Liz Taylor. That wouldn't even be funny.
Here is a complete list of actual Weird Al songs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_by_%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic

Radio Show About JWs - anyone have advice?
by Shepherd Book ini'm scheduled to appear on atheists talk radio show this sunday (i'll have to miss the public talk, though).. here's a link about it: radio program.. does anyone have any advice for me?
or - do you have anything you think i really need to mention?
(like new light or some recent crazy statement in the tower.).
-
Gopher
Hi SB. I'll be sure to tune in to AM 950 - can't wait to hear you and the other good folks at Atheists Talk.
I think one good subject might be how they hide their actual nature by denial and deflection. The UN / NGO scandal of 2002 isn't over. The Watchtower still has representatives involved as NGO's -- and they tell their people they're non-political and the UN is from Satan. Here's a link showing Watchtower political involvement since 2002: http://jehovahsjudgmentexposed.blogspot.com/2010/04/watchtower-is-still-involved-in.html
Their pedophile scandal is another example. They publish things making it look like they really care and they have their pedophile problem handled: http://www.jw-media.org/aboutjw/article23.htm But their two-witness rule and procedures forcing the victim to confront an unrepentant molestor is designed to protect the organization and not children.
