Did Jesus Teach Parents Should be Honored?
by JosephAlward inmatthew says that jesus tells his disciples to "honor your father and mother" (matt 19:19), but luke thinks that jesus requires his followers to hate their parents, "whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother...cannot be my disciple.
" (luke 14.26) .
couldn't god find a way for one to be a disciple of jesus without having to hate one's parents?

I am still a JW, what shall i do?
by nevaagain inhello, i know this board for about a week but didn t dare to register and post something, to let the cat out of the bag ... i am a jw :) i was shocked after i read through some of the topic here.
honestly, i haven t seen any apostates in action until i started visiting this board.

hey neva...i'm also in that situation right now..21 reporting 1 hr or so a month and kinda regular in sunday mtgs but rarely on midweek...
the thing is that....how will u know if a religion is true if you havent even verified it by looking at other religions (which they dont allow)..what i mean is that we think of other religions as easy and shallow religions but when u get to know their theology..some are even better than what the jws teach... for example when doing biblical exegesis...i mean it makes more sense than the 'usual' interpretation that jws are doing (if they have some unique teachings most are questionable)another thing is that i feel that most jws operate in fear...instead of realizing the value in the good that they do...they do good because they fear being punished...(maybe im wrong but it seems to be that) like what i'm doing right now...even if i dont want to go door to door because im not even sure if what we're teaching is right i still go because i don't want to hurt my mom....that's why there's no room for growth for me in this religion because i just do things coz i need to not because i find value in it...
if jws are really true i think they should encourage people to check out what others are saying about them instead of saying that there are 'apostates' attacking...i mean if you're not guilty of something you'd want to face all your accusers and answer them with a straight face...
