  Governing Body:

  I'd love to find a serious consideration of these two verses in your publications. Perhaps a Watchtower study article devoted to it. Jesus seemed to take it very seriously.

  Luke 17:1,2 - Then he said to his disciples: "It is unavoidable that causes for stumbling should come. Nevertheless, woe to the one through whom they come! It would be of more advantage to him if a millstone were suspended from his neck and he were thrown into the sea than for him to stumble one of these little ones."

  Do these verses have a modern day application? When I was in the organization, I couldn't find much of an explanation of these verses. According to you, the "little ones" were to blame because they were weak in the truth or had bad attitudes. When I read these verses, I don't think the millstones were meant for the "little ones." They're for folks like YOU. God and Jesus hold you responsible for your actions. You don't get to vote on that. You don't get a free pass. A millstone necklace on a short plank would be the preferred way to go. What you'll get is much worse.

  It's not too late to admit your wrongs and avoid this fate. I hope for your sakes, you come to your senses while there's still time.

  are all cancelled out by the practices and teaching of the fds.

  jesus gave three outstanding examples of what it is to be a follower of his and the actions and mindset that you should have, all three of these teachings or example's are diminished by the practices of jw's.

  Great post! I've thought of these things but couldn't have said it so clearly. When I was a JW the thing I found the most comfort in was the Greatest Man book. The teachings and illustrations of Jesus are so simple and reflective of God's love. I came to see that God was not harsh, demanding and unreasonable in his requirements; however, the organization certainly was unreasonable and demanding. Studying about Jesus's teachings gave me hope, and caused me to doubt and eventually discard the attitude of JWs.

  what are the worst rules you've ever heard being dispensed from the platform?

  "christians do not dance to ymca, as it promotes homosexuality.

  "hairstyles that defy gravity also defy joe hoobie.

  My husband just gave me another rule pulled out of someone's hind parts that's, as he describes it "beyond stupid." About movies: You wouldn't even want to watch a PG-13 movie, because if you take the "G" and the "1" out [out of the term PG-13] and you push the leftover "P" and "3" together, and then knock out the upper part of the "3" what do you have?? An R!!

  The Hubs swears that this was actually stated from the platform. The scariest part is the fact that, to the speaker, this made perfect sense. One big reason why brothers with no education should stick with illustrations they find in the WT publications. My husband says those weren't any good either, but I say they're better than this gem.

  I heard a brother say from the platform it's wrong to watch R rated movies that have been edited for television. I found this mind-boggling since if the objectionable content had never been in it in the first place, there wouldn't have been an R rating. Somehow the cut-out bad scenes apparently leave an evil aura in the edited film. He provided a really deep illustration that totally explained his point: If you were in a bar, where nothing untoward was going on in the area where you were, but upstairs there were immoral acts going on, would you want to be there? Of course not. So in the same fashion, we would not want to watch a movie that was once rated R even if the objectionable portions have been taken out. Yep, that's what he said.

  More Evidence that Jehovah Is a Tyrant

  i have observed that jehovah god is far from the loving father he portrays himself to be.

  stifling my sex drive, and then exploiting it by using it to get me into a cult, hardly qualifies god as being loving.

  and neither does continuing to stifle the sex drive after i am trying to leave the cult and quite likely using the hounders to reclaim me as their slave.. i found another web site that any theist should urgently look up before looking into any religion, whether jehovah's witnesses or any other "christian" or islam religion.

  Satan overkill

  i remember in my teen years thinking about the constant warnings of satan "transforming himself into an angel of light" and wondering how in the world did i stand a chance against a demon?!

  a demon thats had thousands of years to suss things out and trick people in various different ways without them even knowing.

  he led angels to rebellion.

  As a JW child I totally bought the idea of Satan. Now that I'm thinking for myself and forming my own thoughts on who/what God is or if he exists, I find the idea that Satan exists to be a hard one to swallow. If I have to accept that the Devil exists to believe that God exists, I begin to question ALL of it. I attend a church along with my husband and while I have an easier time accepting that there is a God, whenever I'm told that if I'm a Christian then the Devil is after me, the whole sermon starts to go south for me. Why would I want to be a Christian when I get a special added bonus of attacks from a superhuman creature? Thanks, but no thanks!

  if i were a practicing jehovah's witness, i'd seriously take the governing body's words to heart immediately.

  since they don't want to add any further burdens on us, i would not "wait on jehovah (them)" but instead i'd follow the spirit of their timely words and cut out one more meeting night and save gas money!

  Pentecostals? Should I be afraid of them?

  just finished watching the film 'borat'.

  in it there is a scene where he attends what i assume is a pentecostal church meeting.

  for all i know it is a setup.

  I think the Pentecostals use the expression "slain in the spirit" for what happens when the Holy Spirit comes down on them and makes them fall out. Usually there's an attendant around to catch you. Occasionally, there's no one and you just land on the floor. One woman tried to sue a pastor because she was "slain in the spirit" and fell and hit her head.

  I've been attending a Pentecostal church recently and I find the people there to be sincere and very community-minded. My husband helps sometimes when they provide food and clothing for the needy in the area. I'm not looking to join and I don't agree with many of their beliefs, but we have heard some good sermons that we benefited from, and we enjoy the choirs. I do agree that ultimately they believe they're right and those who don't believe as they do are going to hell. I don't agree with that but it's not something they talk about all the time.

  Thanks for the link. I work with a Danish lawyer who told me about this film. Her mom is sending it to her from Denmark. The lawyer isn't a JW but knows I was one and thought I'd be interested in it. I think the name of the movie is Two Worlds or something like that.
