I feel the same way, but recently I have made an amazing discovery. The majority of friends that I have made over the years have suddenly vanished. I blame it on the double D's ( divoriced and/or disfellowshipped.) Looking around there really is nothing to hang onto anymore. It looks like some of the borg have found it more important to unplug themselves

It's tough letting go
by B_Deserter inyou know, we all like to talk about how awful the congregations we attended were, but at the end of the day, most of us are here because we need support letting go of our friends and family.
personally, i had and still do have occasionally (because i haven't faded yet) great times with some of my friends.
yeah, it's all based on our religion and they wouldn't be my friends if i didn't believe it.

Tell me about the weirdos in your congro.
by karter inwe had a guy who used to bang on about natural remedies.. at the doors and meetings he would tell everyone what was wrong with them and what to take to remedy it he even told the brothers of for sell coke at the assemblies.. however there was know remedy for his mental health apart from that he was a fat little porker who looked like you could grow spuds on his teeth and washing wasnt big on his agenda last i heard he joined scientology.. we had 4 sisters in the congro pregnant one nut case confessed to the elders he was father to all of them.. one sister used to attack the po's wife in the kh then stand up through the meeting and abuse at the speaker after that they would call the sike team it wasnt uncommon for her to go door to door at midnight.. last i heard she became a counsellor..

there is this elder at our hall who spends the majority of his time speaking to, and "encouraging" the teenage girls. he is married ( 2x's) and has a daughter. Someone once asked him if he was the local congregation pedophile, and man it was amazing how upset he became !! still likes to play with the younger girls tho..

this must be the weirdest story ,,, ever. A well respected elder has an affair at work and gets Df'ed. His teenage son hooks up with an MS's wife, and they both get DF'd several months later. Son and his new wife get married, ( she recently had a baby with her MS hubby, and has 2 other sons under 5 yrs old!!) So Ex elder leaves his wife,, son 18) is now married to a well worn-out woman (35) The DF'd elders manic ex wife moves down to Florida, trying to straighten out her life !? So much for living in the "truth"

Most hated Rules and Regulations
by Bendrr inthe thread about "clinking" got me to thinking.. what were the rules you hated most?
rules that were just so boneheaded as to be infuriating.. there are so many rules and regulations to follow as a dub.
some rules may not even be able to be referenced in the publications, at least not firmly and clearly.

why no 2 door cars ? For going out in service,it was better to have 4 doors so everyone could get in-out better. There was also an elder in my hall at the time who bought a new 4 door car and boastfully told everyone who would listen that this was his last car,,, his Armageddon car!! That was in 1978, I believe this guy has had about 5 different cars since then. What a hypocrite he was/is.

Back in 1978 I had the opportunity to go to veterinary school, and get most of it paid for by my boss at the time. friends, elders, pioneers very forcefully persuaded me no to go, using WT articles listed above as references. Why go ? the world will end soon, don't waste your time !! 30 years later here I am,, going to night school to get my associates degree in management, and kicking myself in the rear EVERY DAY because I didn't think for myself back then.

Pray silently?!? What the heck is this about?
by A-Team ini was just reading memphisbelle's account, and she mentions that the wt says that one is suppose to pray silently so satan wouldn't be able to mess up god's plans.
um, correct me if i am wrong, since i have never been, or will never be a jw....but what the heck kind of logic is this?!?
(especially if you read what the bible says about prayer.

thanks for the reply. I have been associated with the WTBTS for over 30 years and in the late 70's I remember one of the elders discussing this subject. For some reason it was one of the subjects that I always remembered. Yet, I cannot find any information on it , perhaps someone else could fill in the blanks, or correct me . ?

what is this about ??
by memphisbelle ini have been a jw for thirty years, attending meetings at the same kh all this time.
about seven years ago, i began to wonder to myself if the jws were the only religion that god approves of.
six years ago, a very good childhood friend of mine died from a long illness, ( he was not a jw) and i was quite bothered by his death.

I have been a JW for thirty years, attending meetings at the SAME kh all this time. About seven years ago, I began to wonder to myself if the JW’s were the only religion that god approves of. Six years ago, a very good childhood friend of mine died from a long illness, ( he was not a JW) and I was quite bothered by his death. I was a little surprised by my reaction to this, and thought that if I applied myself a little more to spiritual matters, I would understand why I felt so bad. Bam, one week later a very close associate of mine (who was a JW) out of the blue suddenly left his wife, filed for a divorce, and got DF’ed. I then decided that I would apply myself more seriously to applying bible principals, and start paying more than the usual attention to the meetings, and work at improving my service time and quality. I need to interject this one thought before continuing: During my early years of studying, I remember a WT article that explained how as long as you pray to God silently Satan cannot hear you. But if you verbalize your prayers he can hear what you are saying and possibly throw a wrench into your plans,. Is this still true? Anyway the week goes on and I pray, pray, pray, ( silently of course) Thursday book study, Saturday FS, OK, I started to feel a little more in control. Sunday PT and WT study, going great. After this Sunday meeting an elder and his wife whom I had known for all 30 years approached my wife and I in the back of the KH. Now the hall is shared by three different congregations, so as one is leaving, people for the next meeting are coming in, and these two Spiritual mature people started to yell, yes yell at us for not giving their daughter the “correct information” regarding her decision to go out to dinner with a worldly co-worker. My wife and another sister told this girl (who was 25 yrs old at the time) that she is old enough to make her own decisions, but to respect and consider her fathers opinion. Well, we were told as many people continually walked by that we did not have “spiritual maturity” and we were working against the Holy Spirit by telling a 25 yr. old girl to think for herself!!! As this was going on, I was absolutely mortified, I had expected some opposition to my decision to apply myself spiritually from the “world”, but from within the congregation had never crossed my mind.. After we went home, my wife decided to call this guy, and apologize, he is the type who will fall on a sword regarding any situation that makes him look bad. He accepted, and was grateful that we had realized the error of our ways and hoped that we had learned something from this episode. Well, I gave up right there, so much for praying for support to do more. He shortly thereafter moved to another hall, and we have not spoken for six years. The elders asked my why I was not going out in FS, attending all the meetings, etc and I told them the entire story, their reply was that I needed to have a bible study with someone. Excuse me, when a situation arises the bible clearly states to 1) Approach the person, lay out the problem, and work out a solution together. 2) if this does not work approach the older men and get them involved in a solution. My wife and I did follow this advice, and the only thing that comes out is that we need to have a bible study. What is missing here ?

I recently heard by a trusted member of the congregation that an ELDER while getting a group ready for FS replied to three elderly ladies as "the three stooges". And this guy is an elder !!!
