Wow, YES Cognac.. I thought this was just me! Perhaps it's that we feel so aloof and superior from the problems as well as the joys of society around us. Maybe for this reason we become emotionally detached?
WOW GREAT THREAD THANKS. :-)

Never Had Strong Feelings - Did You Experience that as a JW?
by cognac inwhen i went to a funeral and i cried cause i thought it was what you were supposed to do.. went to a wedding and didn't really care, just was happy cause everyone else was.. there was just never any strong feelings, except depression of course.. but anyways, did you guys ever experience that?
no strong feelings as a jw?
now that i'm coming out, i'm noticing that i'm starting to actually get more feelings... not sure if that's a jw thing or just cause i'm seeing a phychiatrist now... however, i do notice that with hubby, no strong feelings.

Hey Superman.. I relate to your post so well I could have written it word for word. Particularly lately when I hear witnesses talk sadly of news that certain ones have left or been disfellowshipped, I find it hard to keep my mouth shut. It's all I can do not to cheer. :-)
But it really is an awful feeling knowing that your new understanding is going to make you officially disapproved and labelled a failure by your own family. :-( I'm trying to prepare that I might have to give up my family altogether, and we are very close. I have one sibling only that I think may stick by me. That is worth so much to me.
I'm trying to look on the positive side of this though. I know if I fade I will be losing some wonderful friendships, but I have confidence that one day I will look around and find that I am surrounded by new friends who won't judge me if my beliefs aren't the same as theirs.
How long have you been fading?

INPUT NEEDED ON JW BELIEFS
by Mary ini'm at the beginning of putting a package together regarding the wts and i'd like your opinion on which topics i should include.
basically, this would be a package for those who have family or friends in the borg, but who you think might listen to reason if it was presented in the right fashion.
it's not going to be a huge package, because i don't want to overwhelm anyone, but i want the information to be precise enough that it would stop and make them think.. so far, i'm thinking that i'd like to touch on the following:.

I haven't read all the replies, but I know cigarette companies and UN deals are going to automatically switch off the average dub.
My suggestion would be to stick firmly with the Bible and the WT publications. I would most definitely include scriptures about the fact that an unbled carcass was able to be eaten. I would also include the scripture about false prophets, and try to use quotes from the publications that the average dub can get their own hands on.
x EDITED TO ADD: Oh I forgot, mention pg 201 of the Proclaimers book about the Pyramid measuring.. and maybe a background on where this stuff originated, and the fact that it continued years after the suppposed cleansing of 1919. -

California JWs -- Are they different than most JWs?
by B_Deserter ini've heard stories from people multiple times about their trips to california and how they were surprised to find out how lax the witlesses out there were concerning rules, behavior.
just wondering if anyone can confirm or deny that.

Californians sound like Aussies!
The alcohol intake in Oz is quite impressive.. :-) I've been to a ton of parties and weddings where witnesses were plastered, it pretty much never gets dealt with. If a group of witnesses are on holiday, the beer usually starts before lunchtime for the blokes. Doing "cash" jobs is pretty much the norm amongst any witness in the building industry, including elders. In the cities, I would guess about 30% of the younger single and married couples would go to clubs, and a much higher percentage go to pubs. The "popular" witnesses are the ones that are out partying, and the "spiros" are looked down on as a rule.
Pretty funny. -

Why was the "Manking Search For God" publication never a study book?
by truthseeker inany takers?.
i'm guessing it's because people might get too curious when covering the material and wonder about different religions..

I have often wondered why this book was never studied myself. My recollection was that we had never covered it at the book study. If it was covered a few years ago it should be in the OKMs... hmmm let me check that.

Why Jehovah Witnesses teach a more biblical faith
by tralon insurprizeingly, i am not a jw but an observer and in partial agreement with the jehovah witnesses on many issues.
i have been to many churches in my 30 years and have studied many church beliefs, church history and the bible as well.
so why do i believe the jehovah witnesses are the one true faith of jehovah god?.
