Hey Cognac... Yeah it does suck for both. :-(
I just can't work out why wives bother having a "Bible-trained conscience" when it is overridden by the husband's conscience anyway.

Jehovah's Witness wives do not need consciences.
by hotchocolate inmy feelings on this subject have continued consistent throughout my time from being a zealous, believing witness to now.
so there's all these areas of "conscience" as a dub, which movies you can watch, what you can wear etc etc.
but.. here's the catch.

My feelings on this subject have continued consistent throughout my time from being a zealous, believing witness to now.
So there's all these areas of "conscience"™ as a dub, which movies you can watch, what you can wear etc etc.
BUT.. here's the catch. If you're a dub wife, and your husband decides that you can't watch the movie, or wear that dress - then as a good submissive wife you need to comply.
So what is the point of a married woman even training her conscience? Just wipe it and obey. No need to think.
Along these lines, I've been thinking about the differences between husbands that leave the dubs, compared to wives that leave. To keep any peace in the house, wives really need to still live to a degree under that control - whereas husbands still have the subservient, obedient partner. Grrrrr. -

Hmmm I dunno, I only marked you as one "apparently", no "evidently's", and not a "doubtless" in sight. Good effort though. :-P

6 THOUSAND YEARS OF HUMAN HISTORY ENDED in the year...????
by Terry in1873 [six thousand years of man's existence ends in a.d. 1873] {wr apr 1880 88}.
1873 "here we furnish the evidence that from the creation of adam to a.d. 1873 was six thousand years.
and though the bible contains no direct statement that the seventh thousand will be the epoch of christ's reign, the great sabbath day of restitution to the world, yet the venerable tradition is not without reasonable foundation.. if, then, the seventh thousand-year period of earth's history be an epoch specially noted as the period of christ's reign, we shall, by showing that it began in a.d. 1873, be proving that we are already in it.

Bring the Light.. nyah ha.. :-)
Terry, great post.. I especially liked this little jewel:
1972 "Does this admission of making mistakes stamp them [Watchtower] as false prophets? Not at all, for false prophets do not admit to making mistakes." {WT Nov 1 1972 644}
So basically, "We are not false prophets because we ADMIT to our false prophecy."
HAHA Ohhhh hell, gotta love the bright spark who worded THAT one.

There's Something About Mary --I don't think of myself as a stick in the mud, but this movie just didn't get a single laugh out of me. It just wasn't funny. Yet I had friends who acted like it was the funniest movie ever made....
Matrix--Not on my list! C'mon this movie was brilliant AND entertaining!
Doctor Zhivago-- I couldn't STAND this movie. Maybe because we HAD to watch it in high school. I swear I wanted to punch someone by the time it repeated that damn theme song for the 1,000th time!!!
********
YES, YES and YES. Everyone raved about Something About Mary - I was like, HELLO? How old are you people?
The Matrix was absolutely brilliant.
Dr Z - oh please shoot me now.
The Lord of the Rings was a big no-no for the witnesses here, and although I LOVE LOVE LOVE fantasy I have never watched them! Not even 5 minutes! But don't worry, that's going to be rectified soon.
Can't wait. :-) -

Hey Changeling... in Australia we also use the word "Entree" but we use it the same way as the French, that is, to describe the starter course. Here's Wikipedia on the subject:
"An entrée (French, literally meaning entry or entrance) is a smaller course that precedes the main course, except in North America, where it is the main course."
This was fascinating to me, I had never been able to understand why Americans used it to describe the main course - but I saw a really interesting explanation from The Straight Dope guy which showed how it developed...
