German Kingdom Ministry sees increase from 2008 number of publishers to 2009 memorial attendance

2008, there were 273,104 attendees, so there is a decrease of 3,801.. rather than stating that, they write: "that are 106,759 more than the average publisher count in the 2008 service year.

an 82-year-old man who entered a meeting of jehovahs witnesses armed with a submachine gun, three magazines, a samurai sword and a knife has been arrested, bielefeld police reported on friday.. some 81 members of the church were gathered in their kingdom hall on dunlopstrae in the citys sennestadt district when a congregation member noticed the masked elderly man enter the vestibule waving the machine gun around 8:45 pm on thursday.. .
the witness quietly informed the congregation and directed them to escape the building via emergency exit, a police statement said.. .

Do JW's now believe the year 2012 will bring armageddon?
by dutchstef inlast weekend i was enjoing the good weather in holland with my mother and my kid sister, who still is a jw, on a terras, drinking a beer.. my mother always tries to tell something positive that happened at the cong or something that she read in the washtowel and then i react negative or not at all.
it's a kind of game i don't know.. this time she said something like despite the fact that armageddon doesn't have to come during the generation of 1914, that does not mean that it isn't near... and then my kid sister reacted on this and said yes...possibly 2012.... i was pretty stunned... of this remark.. has anyone else heard something about the jw's now focussing on the year 2012?.

They might recalculate the "time of the end".
If they accept 587 BCE for the fall of Jerusalem (instead of 607) and take 365 days per year (instead of 360), they come to 1969.
They can say that Satan used the moon landing (instead of World War I) to distract people from God's Kingdom.
First, they can say that "the generation of 1969" will not pass until the end comes. In 2049, they might change it so that the "generation" is the "evil and adulterous generation" that is on earth since 1969.
Some years later, they might teach that the anointed are the "generation".

British Sociologist Predicts Possible Collapse in Jehovah's Witness Numbers
by slimboyfat ina newly published article by british sociologist david voas argues jehovah's witnesses may be about to experience a collapse in numbers.
contrary to claims by american sociologist rodney stark who predicts strong future growth for jehovah's witnesses, voas shows that jehovah's witnesses' efforts at recruiting new members have become increasingly unsuccessful over the past few decades: the rate of increase has steadily declined, and the number of hours each publisher must preach to produce an extra convert has gone up substantially.
voas suggests a reason for the stagnation may be that there is a natural limit to the number of people in a given population that are susceptible to conversion to sectarian groups like jehovah's witnesses - the 'carrying capacity' of the population, and that the limit has largely been reached.
