When the 1995 generation change came out I was still active and "zealous" and everything. My first impulse was to go back to all those doors I had been to where someone had allowed me to do the song and dance about "Jesus said we don't know the day and the hour, but we DO know the GENERATION". 1914 plus 70 or 80 years means it's SOON. I felt I had distorted Jesus' words and had twisted scriptures, and it really bothered me. After awhile I figured no one had really listened anyway, probably paid no attention or realized I was nuts. If I went back to apologize they would likely wonder who is this moron, and it would just be an further annoyance to them.

As A Former JW, Do You Feel You Should "Apologize" For Past Actions?
by minimus indo you believe that you should now apologize for whatever actions you made when you were a witness?.
do you think that if you were an elder that you should contact those that might've felt oppressed by you and your "theocratic" actions?.
if you were a zealous preacher, do you now feel you should go back to your former bible students and tell them the error of your ways?.

Why are Pedophile attracted to JWs?
by MMae inbadboy raised the above question in another thread.
i was wondering how much jw training and/or fear of god played a role in jw childrens' victimization.
these are my comments:.

In response to the comments that pedophilia is not specifically a JW problem and therefore "bashing" is not appropriate: Yes it is true, JW's are not unique in having this problem in their organization. But that is exactly the POINT. JW's teach themselves and their children that their organization is a special place of safety. Outside the org is "the world" where danger and terror abound. Inside the org is the pure spiritual paradise where all are safe. That is a major teaching. "We are clean and have Jehovah's protection, the world is evil and dangerous." This self-righteous pompous lie/exaggeration amounts to a false claim made in the name of God. It invites a strong response from those who have been hurt.

Of Pedophelia and False Positives
by inkling inok, something has been bugging me recently, so please forgive meas i play devil's advocate for a moment.
child abuse of any type is horrific, and when it is sexual innature it can cause unimaginably cruel and life-long damage.i think we can all agree on that.
however, in the past irreparable damage to people's lives havealso been caused by accusations of child abuse that turnedout to be baseless... families are torn apart, trust is shredded, reputations ruined, all because a child misunderstood something, or fabricated a story to get attention, or was pressured by paranoid and possibly abused adults into remembering things that never happened.

The statistics for false positives in that article included many kinds of mistreatment, not just pedophilia. Therefore, your post was misleading, although perhaps not intentionally. Elsewhere on that website the point is made that sexual molestation is if anything under-reported. http://www.menstuff.org/issues/byissue/incestmolest.html#molestation

Are We Any Better Than the Witnesses?
by Caljuher ini have just been on this board a short time.
i have been visiting it for years, however, via the freeminds site since i left the jws in the late 1990s.. but there is so much anger and pain and hatred--especially for people who still want to believe in some kind of god or religion--on this board that it doesn't seem to be so healthy of a place.
why so much hate?

This forum provides a badly needed place where people can freely express their thoughts and feelings. A basic level of civility is appropriate, to facilitate communication. But trying to be "better", being concerned with appearances, worrying about what THEY will think... that kind of pressure is what many here are escaping.

did anyone on here ever have a paedophile in thier congregation?
by looloo inif so, did it bother you that he had been reprooved and forgiven rather than reported to the police?

Yes. One was a charismatic PO. Still well liked and respected because he stepped down due to "health issues", which is a lie. The victims suffer to this day. Either Brooklyn doesn't understand the damage that is done, or they don't care (or both). Once a person knows about even one pedophile kept hidden by organizational procedure, it is impossible to sit through a meeting or even show up at the hall and not be smacked in the face with the hypocrisy, or to recognize first hand the very things Jesus so severely condemned.

The phrase "undercover apostate" has various shades of meaning. In the strictest sense, such individuals do exist but are rare. On the other hand, there are many who feel something is wrong. Elders see first hand, over and over, the details of people being hurt by blind policy. They see the corporate machinery in action. For some, it eventually occurs to them that this is more like the Pharisees than like Jesus. But they can't say it point blank. So they might try to soften the blow, bend the rules when they can. A hardliner might call that "apostate".

Any introverts out there?
by wings ini took freedom frogs personality test yesterday, three times.
my lowest introverted score was 67. i think that borders on recluse.
are you comfortable with that part of yourself?.
-

Introvert here. I used to think I should change, but now I'm comfortable. Nothing wrong with preferring a quiet evening at home. Introversion doesn't impress a generally extroverted society, but that same society needs its quiet thinkers. For example, I understand Abraham Lincoln was an introvert.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I won't be able to say much... you understand why some of us can't risk identification... a lot to lose. And I might not be able to post very often. I've been reading this forum for years. The diversity of opinion and open discussion is refreshing and badly needed by JWs who are trapped and can't get any air. If someone like me has been reading and appreciating this, there must be many JW's reading here too, because I was a "good" one, doing everything "right". The only problem is I have this tendency to want to make sense out of things, and you know what happens if a JW keeps trying to make sense of things. Anyway, a big THANKS to this forum!
