I guess what I'm getting at on the Baptism is that most Christian churches say (as they are dunking or putting the water on the head) "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" or something incredibly close to that. Also, we mostly believe that unless you specifically ask Jesus to be your savior and forgive you of your sins you are damned to eternal hell. Do JW's ask Jesus to forgive them of their sins?

First off, I want to thank you all for being so patient with this newbie, who's become a Posting Fury! Now to the heart of the matter: Jesus. Christians know Jesus saves. We invite him into our hearts to become our Lord and savior. Do witnesses??? Are JW's baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?? I know they believe in Jesus, but is the Good News that they deliver about the saving grace of Jesus Christ? Or is it all about God's name being Jehovah? Please clue me in.

in defense of the Holy Trinity
by potentialJWconvertswife ini need some help on the holy trinity.
my husband is studying with the witnesses (he's not one of them yet), and is totally buying into the idea that god, jesus and the holy spirit are all separate, not (as i've tried to explain) separate, but also one in the trinity.
i have pointed out the scriptures in john that reference god as the word, and then jesus as the word later.

From what I've read in "20 questions Jehovah's Witnesses can not Answer" Jesus is the big deal. Is it true that JW's have not asked JC to be their Lord and Savior?? I'm fixing to start a new thread on that topic. Thanks again for all the great responses! Y'all are a terrific group. I had no idea what I would find here, but everyone has been really cool, and I have gained a ton of knowledge in the short time I've been on. THANK YOU ALL!!!

Thanks again to all. I've dropped the Trinity argument for now and will focus on other issues. Irkr- believe me, I know about all the other stuff, and it's definitely disturbing. Billy- my husband has no idea about any of the pedophile stuff. He only started studying with these folks a few months ago, probably doesn't know anything about the generations definitions. Thanks for all the info Facts, I'll be studying it all.

Convention time!
by jacethespace inhow many of you attended a convention at a stadium and at the end of the loooonng weekend .
wheres that scripture which says "let another person praise you and not your own mouth" somewhere in proverbs,i guess though it doesnt apply to the governing body as per usual.. i was always suspicious of these boasting sessions at conventions and thought it was nothing but hyped up advertising for the tower.i was also suspicious of all those donation boxes all around the stadium at conventions.a christndom church has one box at the back of the hall as well as plate passing the tower has a box at the hall and hudreds scattered everywhere at a convention/assembly.not much diffrence to me.. it was funny how there was a lot of difficulty to leave the car parks at the end of the day with some cursing others for being in the way and having to que up.then we would leave and remark on being back "in the world".oh no all those mad drivers everywhere now we are out of " paradise" dashing about..

Being an outsider I don't know a thing about the conventions- is this the annual "communion" at which the great crowd refuses the cup and the bread?? And boasting sessions- what's it all about? Are JW's required to attend or only encouraged? Where does it happen? Same place every year?

I can see how it may be better to focus on other doubts than the Trinity. Hubby says he always had a problem understanding the Trinity. I of course said the old line about how men are not meant to understand all of God's ways. That didn't fly at all! I will definitely work the blood angle, as he's already said he has problems with it, Thanks Almost. Gopher- I would have thought the DF'ing would be a major stopping point for anyone not in the JW's. I mean, it's God's job to judge, not man's: Judge not lest ye be judged. The thing is, he knows all about it, as the guy he's studying with has a family member who is close to being DF'd because they aren't living according to the JW rules. Go figure!

2 Corinthians 6:14 & Marriage
by kwr ini have never understood why is it ok for jw's to marry unbelievers although paul clearly warns against it in 2 corinthians 6:14. it is not that i am against it at all, but want to understand why the wts allows it.
tia.
do not be yoked together with unbelievers.

There is danger there for anyone of one faith to marry anyone who is outside of that faith- ask anyone whose partner is Catholic or Jewish and they're Protestant. It's difficult to agree which faith principals to follow in regards to raising children, and will always be an issue unless one partner starts to believe as the other does. I'm surprised this could even happen, as I thought JW's weren't even supposed to hang out with anyone who isn't one of theirs...I'm told that converts don't have to worry about their partners not being JW's. Why is that? Because marriage is sacred and no matter what you shouldn't break that up? Or is it just a line that they feed the potential converts so as not to scare them off????????

I don't even have anything nice enough to wear next to the suit my husband put on for his first "meeting" this past Sunday. Plus, I don't feel like I have to dress for other people. I'm a good looking woman, and jeans are my choice of dress. I was incredibly surprised to see him all duded up, because in the past that is one of the things he used to say about why he didn't like going to church. This is my first post in the forum...here to try to get knowledge to pull my hubby out before he gets sucked in any further. Any suggestions???
