  we find god's name "jehovah" so many times in the old testament, but not at all in the new testament.

  jesus is called a "mighty god" in the bible.

  jesus is also called "father".

  Hooberus: I have never been a JW, but here is an observation: while the situation with Lots daughters is recorded in the Bible (as similar situations are recorded in news papers today, never is it said to be Gods will.

  hooberus, the point is that Lot is not punished for it, neither are his daughters. That is strange considering the fact that Lot's nameless wife was killed by God for only looking back, something less profound as incest I would say. When I wasn't paying attention to the speaker I usually found myself reading random chapters of the Bible. I must say that the OT mentality as a whole made me sick. It really puzzeled me as a JW why the OT was so very different from the NT like reading to contradictory books. One book: Burn the infidel! Rape their women! Bash their children! New book: Love your enemies! turn the other cheek! Pray for your opponents! Weird! Greven

  New "Simplification Arrangement"

  boe letter dated 3-2-2003. dear brothers,.

  jehovah's organization(tm) has increasingly become under attack by apostates and all those who fight jehovah's will(tm).

  apostates(tm) have claimed that our new world translation(tm) of the holy scriptures has no justification for using jehovah's holy name(tm) in the greek scriptures(tm), scandalously claiming that there is not even one ancient text that contains that name in those greek scriptures(tm).. they have also attacked jehovah's understanding of daniel 4, daniel 8 and revelation 7, to name only a few.. we wish to find persons of "good will(tm)", that is to say, we want to find "honest-hearted(tm)" ones(tm) who will accept jesus' underserved kindness and become a part of the great crowd(tm) and will accompany the many of us who are deserving into the paradise earth(tm) which will soon(tm) be given to those deserving of us.. therefore, in order to address the threats and lies of some(tm) apostates(tm), we have instituted a new, simplified arrangement(tm).. brothers, we should no longer say that our one, true faith(tm) is "bible-based(tm)".

  upcoming elder visit, need help

  i have been inactive for quite a while since i started to do research on the society.

  the elders knew about this and even encouraged it, until i started to ask the wrong type of questions, mostly of the kind: "can you provide verifyable evidence for that?".

  anyway, they wanted to meet to discuss my current position towards the religion and towards the bible.

  Very helpfull advise so far.

  Maverick, the baptismnullification letter is helpful when taking that final step. Submitting such a letter right now would mean I have reached a conclusion of a sort. What I really want is linger in a doubting phase. No JW is ever DF'ed or DA'ed for doubting, rather it is the conclusion and spreading of that doubt that gets people booted so to speak.

  Choose your battles on your own terms and your own ground.

  That's very good advise! That is also the reason why I prepare. I am not a very fast thinker, but now when a question smells fishy. When I am in doubt about the answer, I simply state i would like to consider the question better, or ask them to explain giving me time to think.

  qwerty, asking questions is my specialty. Usually when i get people to explain their question they trip themselves up.

  Religion & Morals

  my hubby and i come from different backgrounds.

  although neither was raised as a jw, he was in a very religious household.

  as kids they were forced to read the bible everyday after school, while the neighborhood kids played outside.

  I wonder if it was because they were never allowed to grow a conscience of their own, be able to reason things out. They were taught that this would please/displease God and once they left religion then there was nothing left for them to base decisions on.

  Indeed! There is no thinking involved on their part. It is just: God says it is bad so it is bad. like a parent answering the dreaded "why?" of children with: "because I say so!"

  It is way better to learn children to reason for themselves why something is wrong, instead of bashing them with the authority rod. wether this is parental authority or a religious one.

  thats right, my baby asked me to be his wife on friday night.

  it was our 1 year anniversary, we had booked into a motel with a spa bath and admist bubbles, i followed a trail of balloons to my ring.. it was all very romantic (and about time too seeing as he had the ring sitting in the draw for 2 months!!

  Bad Doors in the field service

  Well no, I wish this would have happened. I would have left earlier than I did.

  What was your worst experience in the field service?

  I went to a studentdormatory(sp?) and rang the bell, some guy opens the door and tells me he is not interested aswell as the rest of the students. I say well, I let them decide that for themselves. He goes back in. I ring another bell in that dormatory, and this firts guy opens again a threatens me with a kitchen knife, telling me off while tapping this huge knife on my shoulder and pointing it at my face.

  I stayed calm, and left. To this day I regret not sueing this guy's ass. Freak

  according to the watchtower of dec. 15, 1985, jehovah and his son attend the meetings at the kingdom hall.

  "how can you show gratitude for what jesus did" is the article that you should review.

  this is what it states:"since jehovah and jesus are present invisibly at these gatherings, grateful christians will not snub them, as the apostates do, but rather do all they reasonably can to attend regularly.

  Now I am sure that if either of them want to answer a paragraph question they would be ignored by the watchtower study conductor! What would they think of that! Do they also go out in fieldservice or should they be counted as inactives? Do they have a bloodcard?
