This calculation shows A.D. 1874 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble; for 1542 years B.C. plus 1874 years equals 3416 years. Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1874 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble such as was not since there was a nation – no, not ever shall be afterward. And thus it will be noted that this "Witness" fully corroberates the Bible testimony on this subject, as shown by the " Parallel Dispensations" in MILLENNIAL DAWN, VOL. II., Chap. Vii. Nor should any doubt the fact that the forty years of judgment and trouble began in the fall of 1874 because the trouble has not yet reached an unendurable stage; and because, in some respects, the period since that date has been one of the great advancement in knowledge. Remember that all this is shown in the Great Pyramid and illustrated in the diagram of the "Pit" which was draughted by Prof. Smyth without any reference to this application.

Russell's warnings were contributed to God himself:

IN THE year 1879 it became evident which of the many early voices announcing Christ’s second coming were being chosen by Jehovah to be united in action as his witnesses.

For example, it learned that Christ’s second presence was to be in the spirit, and not in the flesh as many professed Christians believe. His rule would be from the heavens. Happyman: 1914 as the time for jesus to take power in heaven

You are correct on this one. In 1925 they changed the time Jesus took power in heaven from 1878 to 1914. However was not his second presence or parousia. They taught at least until 1930 that the parousia had taken place in 1874. In 1930 Rutherford changed this to 1914 but gave no explanation for this change no change of chronology was presented. Between 1930 and 1942 they are mostly silent on this topic and explain in 1942 why with chronology changes.

If JWs Were Allowed to Vote............For Elders.

this is a thought i've had for a few years, and was prompted to post it after reading jc machislopps thread of a few weeks ago, about the history of the early congregations.

" if jws were allowed to vote............for elders.

i am envisaging a program where the r&f could vote for the congregation overseer, who would in turn, pick his "cabinet".. the congregation overseers would in turn, vote for circuit overseers, who would vote for district overseers, etc up the line, right to the governing body.. i know the logistics of it would be some work and time to implement, but hey, other religions do it, why not the jws?.

The borg would turn from an autocratic form into a more democratic one and that is the last thing the GB wants. Trust me. It would require quite some reform to get there but once it is reached it will create an avalance of reform on all basic doctrines, all the things the majority hates or suffers from will be changed or completely tossed! Think about it! No more blood doctrine! No more harsh DF's! No more pesky controls on holidays etc! No more mindboggling chronology! It would turn mainstream quickly!

It would devastate everything that currently holds the entire religion together: Control, Fear, and Guilt.

It's a happy, happy dream.

Matthew 7 (The Message Bible) 12 "Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God's Law and Prophets and this is what you get.

This would be a kind condensed message of the teachings contributed to Christ. However it doesn't fit the theme of the entire bible especially not the OT. The OT could be summarized thus: The Jews are JHWH's favourite people. That's us punk! Therefore all others are inferiour and should yield to us or be utterly destroyed.
