  ok it is 4 am and i have not gone to bed so i wont be checking this thread till way later.

  still i have a question.........maybe someone can answer it for me.. .

  do so many christians believe that anyone who does not believe as they do will burn in hell?.

  I have wondered the same thing many times.

  I can't see how people equate a loving God, a farther with this extremely harsh treatment.

  No parent would torture their child, no matter what mistake. But we should believe God would torture people that have never heard of him? How can a few years of sin be punished by enternity of torture? How can a God that does things like that punish people like Hitler?

  Justice? Rightiousness? No Way! Who would worship a God like that?

  I share your sentiments U_R, just remember: there are always people with twisted minds like that.

  How did you imagine the end happening?

  i always imagined it as being the sky turning different shades of purple and finally seeing colors i've never seen before.

  loud lightening, thunder in all directions... i would hear god speak, then the sky would turn red, and i'd see angels coming down from the sky and devils go up and fight in the sky... kinda like in raiders of the lost arc.

  it would last 40 years, then the earth would split and open all demons would be cast below, and then 2 weeks of rain will cleanse the earth and the paradise would grow from the ash and neutrient rich rain.. .

  I always imagined it like this:

  Suddenly the sky turn black with red streaks, lightning flashes and thunder rolls,

  Then a big hole opens in the sky, a big finger is protruding from it, getting lower and lower until it points straigt at my face. Then I hear a deep rumbling voice shaking my entire body, sending waves of shivers down my spine. I know that, whatever the voice says I can't resist it. The voice says : HEY, PSSST! PULL MY FINGER

  well with that quote, the witnesses have always justified the fact that they are still god's chosen people, even though they are not that large compared to other worldwide religions.

  yet i was wondering something, if smaller is a sign of god's people, then how small is small enough.

  You hit on doubletalk I noticed too.

  When they are growing the brag about 'nations flocking to God's mountain' but when there is little growth or even decline they speak about '10 thousands are falling', 'the love of many cools down' and 'the road is small and narrow and few find it'. Growth or decline, favour or percecution, a large number of members or a small number. It is always Jehovah behind it all, showing they have the true religion. Jehovah blessing them, Jehovah sifting them. No matter what happens it is always given a positive spin.

  If they were to grow bigger than Islam or the Katholic church, they would simply forget this text of a small road or assign a different meaning to it.

  Virgin Mary or verging on the ridiculous?

  vandals have torn down a fence post in australia's largest city, sydney, which devoted catholics had begun to flock to because they believed it projected an image of the virgin mary.

  this combination picture shows a woman reaching to touch the fence post (image on right).

  the picture on the left was deliberately shot out of focus to show how it resembles the virgin mary from a distance.

  And what does the mighty, omnipotent, master of the universe about it?

  He sends a broken fence post looking (from great distance and with squinted eyes) like a Jewish women named Maria and potatoes looking like her son.

  I don't like God's that pull practicall jokes of like that!

  Who was Mark?

  this happens every year in february, i find myself doing really silly things because i've got way too much time on my hands.

  today i actually found myself tracing biblical stories with my atlas.

  when i got to mark 7:31 i had to scratch my head, either my atlas was wrong, my bible had a misprint, or the gospel writer mark was absolutely clueless when it came to mid-east geography.

  What a poorly atempt to refute atheists and other non-christians!

  About the Koran they say that it

  commands the killing of Jews and Christians, permits polygamy, permits the husband to beat his wife, and permits a Muslim man to marry a Christian or Jewish woman, but forbids the Muslim woman to marry a Christian or Jewish man.

  The Bible does the same!!

  The Koran came almost 600 years after Christ. Many of its contents contradict the Bible.

  So does the Bible itself!!

  And what about their "Skeptics Hall of Shame"?

  Sheesh this is one pathetic site!

  Note that my flak is aimed at this errantskeptics-site and not at any poster on this thread.

  How can I successfully Deprogram?

  for months i have been questioning in my mind whether i still believe what i was taught in this organization.

  my belief system is very much intact.

  i stopped using illegal drugs(this got me on the disfellow ship in the first place) i don't lie or steal, but still curse like crazy.

  I would recommend to read widely. Do not limit yourself to read only anti-jw material.

  I would say: start reading up on logic and especially logical fallacies. Read stuff about propaganda techniques. Read stuff on the nature of science (grounded in logic) and research. This provides you with a decent fundament to research the matter yourself. Now go back and read JW material and anti-JW material. Having a decent fundament to do research you will quickly see through the tricks used by the society.

  Having a decent basis for research you can take on anything you want: any religion, any philosophy you have just learned to draw your own conclusions based on evidence rather than feelings.

  This has worked for me. I started to see through their tricks when I developed a love for science.

  When I stick out my tongue...

  well, i can't think of anything else left to do on the path of apostates.

  the original piercing was 10 millimeters, and since that was a bit long now that my tongue has healed, today i went for a new one, and a new stud.

  my jw mum went with me, and she even picked out the one i have now, a red-white-blue [just like our flag] ball that glows in the dark.
