it has a lot to do with their devious minds (the gb).
as an old jw lady used to say about the people in the world "their minds are as twisted as their streets "(said with a little vicious twist to the words.
) the gb is so used to manipulation, and slanting, and twisting things to appear in the best light, they just couldn't bring themselves to say the simplest thing: we know life is busier nowadays and it's hard to get to meetings, so we'll cut down on the meetings so you have more time for your family and other needs.

To my knowlegde, we earned what you lost recently, so what is it with the new arrangement on the book study?
I can't be about gas prizes at ours. We've had high prizes for god knows how long. Surely it must be about something else...

why rename the "congregation book study" the "congregation bible study" (a broad, generic term that could be applied to all meetings really) when surely it would have been more appropriate to rename the "watchtower study" that?.
after all, the watchtower study is touted as a "bible study" by the whole congregation, right?
jw's consider the watchtower study as the main weekly study of the bible that they do as a congregation, right?

it took a long time, but i can finally say i'm out and i took my family with me.. this is my first post but i have been reading here for a while.
i was brought up a witness, in a family that was very 'strong' (or so everyone thought).
i didnt have a relationship with my perents at all other than the 'family study'.

I remember in my JW-days how most people in my cong felt the meetings as a drag. Especially this woman who loved to go on vacation always had "countdowns" such as: Oh, now there's only ten more meetings before I leave, now there's only eight...
People are not that different in mind. An elder in my cong even said to me, shaking his head: "this is what we do so we can survive....(the big A, of course) He ment meeting, field service, prep for meetings etc. etc.
I hope they now can live a little more.
Suppose there will be a suggestion from the GB some time from now to put the money they save on gas into the moneybox at the KH?

My contribution to the matter is this: back in -75 we saw all sorts of evidences of "the sign". If it was ar bit blur in parts of it, we just made one up.
When the Gulf war started, it was REALLY a sign.. etc. etc.
Every person living in a church that predicts "the end" will always look for proof of having right. We like to believe that we, now, live in the center for all theese thing to happen. Otherwise it would not be much point, would it. If it was to happen sometime in the future, it would'nt be any reason for the members of that church to warn others.
No immediate punishment, hence, no opportunity for the leaders to keep their members in control.

I wish this could be a "sign" for that they are downsizing on the congs.
However, my old KH was sold many years ago to a pentecostal church. Yhe witnesses simply builded a new one not very far from tho old.
Surely it was a bit strange with a cross outside the old hall, but there was no fuzz about it among the JW's.
I wonder thou, who got the money from the sale???

I can only agree with you there, Samuel.
I've been a fader for almost twelve years now. Nobody in the cong has ever asked me why. Thou I heard from a friend that when my name was mentioned, the "friends" said that I was protected. What ever that means.
I came into the "truth" only fiftheen years old. 1975. A woman in my neighborhood took me under her wings. All in good meaning, I suppose.
What made me leave? I could'nt stand why Jehova should be such a bloodthursty God, wanting to destroy almost all human beeings in the world. It was never my understanding of a loving God.
But i took many years for me to dare leave. Of course, there were other issues as well.
I've been a lurker on this forum since nov- 06. Did not know any of the chocking stuff about JW before that. Scandals, UN, different learning etc.
At that time it all came over me like a ton of bricks. Could not stop reading on the net. I think I've read it all, come to think of it.
Then I got in contact with an apostate forum in Denmark, met a friend, somewhat like my own situation, and it went on and on..
So, here I am. Bare with me, english is not my native language, being a norwegian.
