I hope you guys are kidding. I hate bush, but he had nothing to do with rising oil prices whatsoever. The world does not revolve around the United States on this issue.
Supply and demand, lack of adequate refining facilities is it. A few dumb people who drive hummers in the U.S. would affect the price of oil generally zero. It's China, Packistan, and other emerging countries that are driving up the prices.

i was thinking about the whole stance that when "the world" declares "peace and security", then "the end" will come.. we all know the jws just love earthquakers, hurricanes, tsunamis, 9/11s, wars, etc.
Look at Russell's history! He was a drunk, and had sexual relations with his secretary. (that , incidentally, wore underwear with the nipples removed!) If people looked beyond that so many years ago, they will surely look beyond all these false prophecies not coming true.

They're beliefs are riddled with all the ways out in the world - "new light", "love cooling off", "little faith", I could go on. (Copywright of the WTBTS) They just say they have new light, and those that could not accept it are labeled as having little faith, weak faith, whatever, and couldn't handle the changes.
They are morphing again, and this will be the 1975 generation part 2 - the 2008 generation (tm)
They're going nowhere fast. And there will be plenty to take everyone's place - and lots that will hang on because they have nothing else than the WTBTS.

last month a friend of mine went to a christian conference in the uk, when she told me about this, she was quite excited, apparently, she had witnessed a miracle.
she saw a women's leg grow 1.5 inches!
previously, it had been shorter than the other leg due to a skiing accident, but now, both legs are the same size.

for those who remember me i'm graduating from college on wednesday!!!!
i'm very happy but there's still a dark cloud (pardon the dramatic-ness) i am still with my non-jw boyfriend of almost three years and i've let my parents know that we want to get married (next month) and they went and told the elders(they did it kinda behind my back) who now want to meet and talk with me!
Don't meet with them - call display works great. Delete phone messages without listening to them.
i'm not much of a poster here, but the passing of my mom on friday is as good a reason as any.. she was in deep, no doubt will be refered to as "faithful to the end" by those who eulogize her.
this new chapter in my life of course has me is a reflecive mood.
i'm sure when she was diagnosed with cancer 4 years ago that her hope was that the "new system" would come before she succumbed.
I would rather be dead forever than spend any time with a group of people who think this "hope" of theirs is a good thing.

I guess, Royalbatty, the core of gay marriage, same-sex unions, whatever you want to call it - is equality. In the U.S. gays are considered to be second-class citizens, that that's an outrage.
I live in a country where gay marriage is legal, and let me assure you, there are no men cutting they're lawn in dresses, no mastrubating in public (unless there's a gay pride parade, I imagine), and no extreme effeminism in the coffee shops because of it. Things are quite normal, actually.
And yes, we can agree on something - acting like morons in public is disgraceful! Those gay pride parades are ridiculous in the sense of all that kink stuff. Completely unnecessary, and something that should be done in private where families don't have to see it. So again, I say to everyone, don't think that those gay pride parades speak to all gays, because lots of gays find them offensive too. Some people thought that all black people sat on porches, ate watermelon and fried chicken all day. Same sh*t, different story.
in september 2004, farkel posted an article on this forum called "rutherford exposed: the story of berta and bonnie.
" his essay, which subsequently was translated into several languages and which received over 10,000 views after the first month, spawned a thread that ran 28 pages and contained the collaborative research efforts of many in jwd.
this thread was thought by some moderators to be the best in the forum -- not necessarily because of the claims in the original essay but because it inspired a staggering amount of research aimed at assessing the credibility of the claims made in the essay, as well as adding to our knowledge of this fascinating yet obscure chapter of watchtower history.
There was a similar article several months earlier. In "Who Are God's Worst Enemies?", Rutherford claimed that those who commit adultery, steal, lie, or sin in other ways are often "victims of circumstances, environment, or improper education and training. Ofttimes they are hampered by fleshly weaknesses which they are powerless to resist" (15 March 1929 Watchtower, p. 93). He goes on to claim that the Bible distinguishes between sinners and wicked people. Those who are truly wicked are those who "seek to injure, oppose, misrepresent, hinder or thwart the work of Jehovah God and to slander his name"....these people are worthy of the second death and are "represensible in God's sight". Sinners, on the other hand, commit offenses like adultery but "have no desire to oppose or misrepresent God... They are sinners; but not wicked people, because their hearts are not wicked. It often happens that such people are credited with being the 'best-hearted people in the community.' They are sinners, and commit offenses because of weaknesses or because of ignorance. God pities the sinners and makes allowances for their weaknesses and their ignorance" (pp. 94-95).
Positively awe inspiring how they can write this drivel to explain away they're own conduct.
