I don't think it contributed to much of anything - other than drudgery of meetings.

How much of a role in Brainwashing did the songs actually play?
by KW13 inthose haunting words...those out of tune dubs...wailing...moanin...then i wake up :p lol i am kidding, but i remember 'snippets' of a lot of songs, all of which focused on me being submissive (for example song number 8, my favourite as a child dub).
does singing help brainwash sheep?

Homosexuals are human also...
by zeroday inpretty much living my entire adult life in jw land i had such a one sided biased against the world including gays...in my own family there were a number of gay members that i thought i was so above them and better than them because the bible said so...i had a cousin die of aids in the early 80's and felt no remorse at all...since my departure 4 years ago i have redirected my priorities in life to include those of not my way of life...i currently have a gay cousin about my age and see the world in a whole new light...i no longer feel superior to anyone and accept those for who they are...this has been a long and hard road back to simplicity i'm just sorry it took so long...

Thank you for sharing.
We all lose that mind control slowly but surely.

I hear you, on the way....
I went to a 'memorial' for a person that I had known - I drove a long ways to go there, and when I saw those cheap-suited dweebs filing in there with they're bibles and songbooks, I turned around and drove straight home. Just couldn't do it.

Assemblies were horrible! The food SUCKED - we went out for lunch (heavy demonism, I know).
The drama SUCKED! I do mean completely and utterly SUCKED!
Everyone walking around in circles, trying to pick up chicks... uuugh. What a stupid way to pick up women.
Hot, bored, uncomfortable, and wasted by Sunday.
I try not to say never.... but I will NEVER, EVER, EVER go to another assembly as long as I live. To those that still go, you have my sympathy.

How to find new friends?
by socialdistortion inhi... my name is chrissy & i have been away from the "truth" for 8 years now.
i married a "brother" when i was 20. i was humiliated by the "elders" in the backroom for oral sex & publicly humiliated but never disfellowshipped.
my husband & i left the truth together after moving away from the area where we lived when we were witnesses.

Hi IMHO,
You are right - it is impossible to pull yourself out of that pit. It sounds like depression, and if someone is depressed, no advice here will probably help. It would be better to talk to a doctor.

Join a club, be outgoing... the dubs wanted you to have a paranoid personality when it came to 'worldly people' (tm). WRONG. Think the best of people, have a positive attitude, and you will be suprised how nice people really are.
Remember too, nobody is responsible for your happiness but you. It took me a long time to realize that, and once I did, my social life improved dramatically. If you can't be happy, seek out professional help to figure out why. Do what you have to do to make your life fun. It's no fun being lonely.
Take care.

Hi Devon,
Nice to see a familiar face.
I am athiest, but of all the so called religions, I enjoy Buddism. When I climb, I try to leave prayer flags on all my summits. It has more to do with the eastern culture and they're kind attitudes - and I believe in Karma. If I ever had to join a religion, it would be Buddism.
Take care, and all the best to you.

I HATE my job. The money is good, but I HATE it. The end result will be something better, so I do what I can do at this point.

Hydrogen with two oxygen atoms... yeah, big deal.
There are probably life forms out there, but it's probably some bacteria.
